This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

Missed out last time it was on special with the extra discount; been keeping an eye out and it's on special again for $74.99 and has Prime Same Day Delivery and free delivery for non Prime subscribers.

From the previous posts on OzBargain and Amazon Reviews, it has mixed reviews, in my view leaning towards positive. So worth a try if you wish to convert your Wired Apple CarPlay to Wireless.

Your headunit needs to have Wired Apple CarPlay for this to work.

I bought this in the last deal and it’s not suitable for my use case; two different drivers with iPhones wanting wireless CarPlay. It is incredibly difficult to change between devices. If you are the only driver, go for it. It works.

I’ve yet to find one that works very well with multiple phones :( always super buggy trying to connect another phone, or disconnect etc

@wrx5 did you remember since last month any of the brands that support profiling?

    • Thankyou. Your feedback is valuable to 2+ person car arrangements

    • Agree its super difficult to use if using two iphones, otherwise its all good. i have been using in my Mazda CX-30.

    • This is my experience with factory-supplied Wireless CarPlay as well, its quite difficult to change between devices… you would think it would remember from the driver profile, but nope.

      • Depends on your car. Very easy in my wife’s BMW X3 to swap CarPlay connection from her phone to mine in the mobile device menu.

    • Bit indulgent, but you could always buy two and just swap between the two when you’re switching drivers. Pair a single phone to each, job done.

I may as well plug in the phone, at that point?

        • +1

Depends on how often you’re swapping devices.

          • @Mitch889: How long does it take to swap a cable from one phone to another phone?

Grabbed this for my MK7 R last time it was on sale. Works great and no issues so far. A slight lag when pressing buttons, but nothing really to complain about.

If you have an android head unit that doesn’t have CarPlay at all, get the CarlinKit CarPlay dongle for just under $100. It works surprisingly well, plus it has wireless built in as well. Also is a good option if your car has an android head unit with a really crappy CarPlay version eg the Zjinnova one (mine had this and the connectivity is super spotty, and slow), this installs a different version that works better with much better and consistent connectivity.

https://amzn.asia/d/dhtLIA6, or on eBay as well, frequently under $100.

    • Interesting product, thanks for that Dr Fruit.

I don't need it, but good to know this exists as well. 👍

Carlinkit 4.0 is definetely the one to go! Fast and realiable!

      • Does it work well with mutiple iphones?

        • +2

Yes it does you can pick the one to connect to before it connects, it gives a choice
If it craps out which it does occasionally all you need to do is put one phone on airplane mode and connect the other one. Then turn airplane mode off and everything works as normal.

Also the latest update causes a couple of small issues so the firmware before the latest is the one to go for. ( for me anyways )

  • any recommendations for wireless android auto ? tia

    • -6

buy a proper head unit with it built in. avoid pioneer. JVC/Kenwood/Alpine.

      • its for 2022 model palisade.

        • -4

          should've ticked the option then!

      • I got a pioneer retrofitted in a Subaru. Wireless android auto works flawlessly.

      • I realise that laserface was being annoying, but a big plus if you have an older car and install a kenwood or pioneer.
I put a Kenwood head unit with wireless carplay in my 2011 Mazda and it works a lot better and faster than a CarLinkit 2 in my 2021 Santa Fe.

    • Carsifi. 2 weeks delivery from china.

    • +1

I've heard a lot of good things about AA Wireless.

There's also the Motorola A1 Wireless from this deal.

I had never heard of the Carsifi that BewareOfTheDog suggested, but it also looks good.

There's also a heap of the CarlinKit ones that are available on on the various marketplaces, but from the research I did, this Ototree seems like the best one out of the bunch for Apple CarPlay only.

Then there's also the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay combo ones. CGAuto on Amazon has this combined one on special for $116.40 delivered or there's the CarlinKit one that shows up for $111 delivered.

      • I am happy with AA Wireless. Use it with Sony xav5000, two Android using drivers. Works reliably. Can preference drivers, mostly "last connected" did the trick. Takes about 30 seconds to connect when you stay the car.

  • Considering the lag, it’s ok when on sale for $59

  • +1

Yeah there's lag when using it but found it to be ok for a month then started dropping out and would refuse to update constantly crashing. Ended up returning it for a refund. Would highly recommend maybe waiting for the next gen one or get something else. I was in my return window so wasn't bad but after that I didn't feel confident it would last.

  • Works great on the factory CarPlay on my 2022 Land Cruiser VX. Very stable even during long drives (4hrs+) and zero lag.

Was a bit glitchy on my 2019 Ford Everest with SYNC3, so YMMV depending on your vehicle.

  • Need some help to understand this product. Would it work if a car does NOT have CarPlay?

I have a 2014 Mercedes. It has Bluetooth but it doesn’t have CarPlay. I use GoogleMap on my iPhone. Would this product work for me and make CarPlay in my car?

    • +1

I think I found the answer, NO I can’t use it.
