Motorola MA1 Android Auto Wireless Adapter: from 54,000 Points to $145 + 5,000 Points Delivered @ Telstra Plus Rewards Store

550

Only official place I could find MA-1 Motorola Wireless Android Auto in Australia.
This was launched early this year but the stocks have been really low in the US and hence not sold at RRP US$89, anywhere.
Cheaper than what's being sold at Amazon AU ~$185.

  • Thank you. I've been chasing one of these for a while.

You can get the AAWireless dongle on Amazon for about the same price, and it supports firmware updates and you can customise the functionality.

    Just another option to consider.

    • Which one do you recommend?

Had read good reviews for the Motorola. AA also seems to be good. Got mine delivered yesterday. Will install it today and share my thoughts.

        • Please share your thoughts.
How long did the delivery take?

@BuyNow Think Later: One day. Telstra and Qantas rewards store are amazing with shipping. Ordered Thu, delivered yesterday.

      Can vouch for AAWireless.
Based on my (research only) recommendation, my friend installed it in his VW Golf and was very happy with it.
I purchased one after his positive experience directly from https://www.aawireless.io/ (US$89.99 delivered to Melbourne). It took ~3 weeks to arrive from Netherlands.
Works flawlessly in 2020 VW Polo with 3 Mobile Phones paired up. It's very configurable and good community support on XDA.
It is very small device and once setup (each phone requires installation of the app), works at least as good (if not more reliable) than my factory Audi wireless Android Auto.

The reasons I chose it over Motorola:
      (1) Availability
      (2) Continuous development
      (3) USB cable not fixed - can be swapped for longer or shorter as required

      • I've had lousy luck with the AAWireless. It always disconnects at the same location outside our car park, which is exactly when you're starting your journey and need connection the most. Totally understand that many people have a great experience, but it's been a disappointment for me. I suspect there's somethng in that area that interferes with BT, and perhaps the AAWireless isn't strong enough. I had a CPlay2Air when I was using an iPhone and had no such problems.

      • I purchased AAWireless while it was still in initial stages of being promoted on Indiagogo.I received mine beginning of January. It works brilliantly, in my Nissan QashQai. I had a couple of issues with the unit disconnecting. But found their support to be outstanding,My emails were replied to almost immediately with instructions on settings to adjust, to fix the problem. There have been a few firmware upgrades and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

    • I can vouch for the AAwireless. its easy to set up and it connects really fast once you jump into the car.

  • Thanks op

I have 0 points in my Telstra account. Any quick ways to get 5000?!

  • +1

Would using this, drain the phone's battery a lot? And force us to charge defeating the purpose of having this?

    • +2

Probably, but at least you can use a 'super fast' charger, or a fast wireless charger instead of the slow trickle charge you often get from the Android Auto cable.

    • +1

I got the wireless aa, drains about 3-4% in about 20mins on a galaxy s20fe. The wireless charger on the camry is able maintain the battery charge and top it up a little bit.

Got the carlinkit 4.0 as it seems like the only one to do android auto and carplay wirelessly. This works absolutely fantastically with the only flaw that I can think of is that everything was slightly smaller and that if two paired devices are in its Bluetooth range it will connect to the one it paired last with. It also seems like if your car only has carplay, this adds android auto functionality (for some reason it always shows up as carplay). Also a great price of 111 (when I checked two days ago)
    Can vouch

    • Link please!

    • Reason it connects to the last phone that used it, and your Bluetooth also does is becuase both the wifi and Bluetooth were last used by that phone.

How is CarLinkit 4 for speed? I have a CarLinkit 2 and it takes about thirty seconds to shake hands and start working.

      • Well I've only had this for two days and used it twice. Initially it took around 30 seconds but it seems like it's getting faster. I just connected tonight and it took me by surprise when it just took like 10 seconds to connect (2019 Kia Cerato)

I've owned both aawireless and MA1 this year.
I ended up keeping the MA1 and selling the aawireless.
Both work, neither are 100%, I found for my set up the MA1 worked more of the time and is more stable.
They are very good for short trips, leave phone and keys in your pocket or gym/man bag and you're still good. Connects before I leave my car park.
Would be lying if I said no drop outs, both ma1 and aa will from time to time.
Good product, love it. But note with probably thousands of car x head unit x software x phone x software combos YMwillV.

For longer trips just plug the damn thing in for reliability, speed, (arguably) better audio quality and a charged up phone. These things will smash some phones battery more than others.

For me I liked the active dev and ability to update firmware on the aawireless (good and bad) but I eventually decided on the it just works better in my case of the ma1.

    Any questions happy to help

These are cool but have limitations. I've found all the ones I use to be slower than plugging the phone in plus occasionally dropouts which everyone just accepts as part of using it.

There is new tech coming out where you plug in the device and it uses the cars standard screen to project its own android 11 OS that is seperate to your phone. The New ones use 8core CPUs and run much smoother. And you can install any app and not be limited by android auto apps only. Similar to having a new head unit but using the cars stock screen.
I think these will be the next new thing for vehicle displays.

I just bought the Carsifi unit for my PX2 Ranger. Works a treat, allows screen touch while driving - obvioulsy for the passenger only :-) and you can change the DPI to get split screen. Its activated as soon as I turn my car on.

It goes on special every now and then - think I got it delivered for about $120 - https://carsifi.com/en-au

    • I received mine 2 days ago. Works well so far, other than a nag warning that it can't connect to my Hyundai I30 ( I did receive a notice of an update today though). I was in and out of the car @ 8 times today.

    • I've had terrible experience with Carsifi. I have connect it every time I start the car

    • Yeah carsifi has been top of my list for wireless AA. Good to hear you have good review of it 👍

  • i got these while in US on amazon(for about $207AUD). works really well with wireless charging.

    • Wireless charging? What do you mean?

      • +1

I imagine they mean it works well while the phone is wireless charging

  • +5

Motorola updates occur only once every 9000 years when the planets are aligned in a particularly fortuitous arrangement

Needed a new waffle iron, thanks

  • What is the advantage of Wireless Android Auto or Carplay as connecting via cable has an additional benefit of charging the phone

Sorry, am I missing anything here?

    • Convenience, wireless charging, faster charging using usb-c charger.

My wired stock android auto fails/crashes occasionally. So will try this out. Wired carplay in my car is far more stable than AA.

  • +1

Is this a better value utilisation of 50000 Telstra plus points?

  • +1

I'd love one of these but I like plugging my phone in so I don't forget to take it with me lol

  • I have had the Motorola MA1 for about two months. Links to my phone before I hit the road and has never failed to do so. Not linked my wife's phone to it as she doesn't drive the car. The main advantage it being able to charge the phone on the Super Fast USB port.

  • For Android, AAWireless, connects supper fast, great little device.

  • Ordered the Motorola MA1 on Sunday - received 3 days later
A short drive suggests that it performs well - no noticeable lag with the head unit when connected
For me, the wireless connection was surprisingly fast - faster than fluffing around with connecting the cable to the mobile

Shame how the usb cable isn't detachable
Needed an extension cable for my setup but that's fine as I am able to hide the device

  • Just received mine today, really happy with it so far. Super easy to connect and it seems to be reliable.

Agree with the usb length but no issue for my car.

Very happy with the points purchase!

  • I agree, wire could've been longer. Super easy setup though. Connection is great, takes about 15 secs before it starts working. Depends on the car and phone obviously, overall worth it for me given the quick shipping and local warranty.

  • Does this one allow the phone to keep the bluetooth connection to the car in addition to using android auto, like a normal cable connection does?

    • Yes

  • Thanks foe posting! Similar to other people, this is a great use of my points and the Motorola seems hard to find anywhere else.

    I hope I don't break it! Hahaha

    • Same here. Thanks OP.

  • I just recieved mine. Connecting flawlessly and no need to download an app to use.

  • This is still at 54k
Tempted to get it for wired AA in my 2021 PX3 Ranger.

Any other feedback on this AA unit please?

    • Just got this after extensive research on this vs AAWireless.
I would say - true Plug & Play… easy to set up and it just works. Multiple phones all ok. Think of it as a simple conversion of wired to wireless as the experience around AA seems the same (and more stable) to me. When I get in the car and start the engine, I can now skip the 'take out the phone and plug it in' stages. That's all it does and all I needed.

      • That was exactly my requirement.
