[Pre Order] Xbox Series X Replica Mini Fridge $149 + Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi

540

So I was one of the chumps who pre-ordered this item @ $220. Delivery got delayed twice… still haven't received it btw, ended up cancelling my order.

Today I noticed that price is now down to $149 but the item description has changed. It says 4.5L. Searching online I can't see any mention of Xbox introducing a smaller model. So not sure if the price has dropped and this is a genuine bargain or its actually a new smaller SKU.

Releases 30/9/2022.

The pic of the fridge open shows cans one vertical and two horizontal high. Whereas 10L model is two vertical and one horizontal high - https://www.mightyape.com.au/product/xbox-series-x-replica-m…

ok so looks like it is a smaller model. I'm surprised there's no mention of it anywhere on the web , I would have thought this type of thing launches in America first.

Interesting my preorder of the original version at JB takes me to a 404 page not found when I click on the link in my order.

      • yeah i tried to find review too, but no luck. they shd call it the mini mini or micro or something to avoid confusion :)

      • +1

        It is smaller.
        MightyApe's: Exterior Dimensions – 46.2cm * 23.2cm * 23.2cm
        JB's: Exterior measures 37cm tall x 18.5cm wide x 18.5cm deep

      • It says updated 2022 model.

    • +11

Is it really though? It's a novelty mini fridge, probably so gutless that it won't actually cool anything and instead just maintains already cooled drinks

      • +9

        Thanks. So… landfill?

      • +2

All reviews suggested buy for collectable ONLY, just DON'T use it.
Not blame them, its a cheap build peltier box cooler….. it comes only 120v AC or 12v DC.
Fingers cross no one will try to plug it on the wall, they might see cool fireworks in there cool looking fridge.

Refrigerators that cool using technologies other than the vapour compression cycle are excluded from the Energy Efficiency (Energy Using Products) Regulations.

      See here

Thanks. Time to change legislation so that cr*p like this is shown for what it is to consumers

    • +2

I think its more a toy or gimmick, otherwise they would need to start displaying energy ratings on computer PSUs, etc.Target and Typo have products that use a similar technology and they don't display the energy ratings on them.

    backwards compatible?

    • +11

Only if you swing that way

      • Microsoft flaunt that they're backwards compatible.. looking back at all their console exclusives maybe? ;)

  • +6

These sort of "fridges" are practically useless. Buy it for landfill the novelty, not the functionality.

Fridge is more useful than a brick

      • +9

        that why i built a fridge-veneer house.

        • +2

Let me guess, with ricotta roof tiles

    • A review I saw on YouTube says this fridge works fine to chill drinks, that is was a little faster and colder than their fridge in testing. Their complaint was in performance mode it was quite loud and not actually he kind of thing you want sitting in the room with you, which is actually a big dealbreaker because where else would you want to put it.

  • +3

I'm still waiting for the Dreamcast x George Foreman Grill.

  • For a cool hundo, I'd impulse buy it for the (profanity) of it.

Why they made a smaller version rather than straight up discontinuing such a silly gimmicky product though, kinda makes me think they're actually selling quite a few of them.

Imagine being a ten year old kid unwrapping this for Christmas thinking it's an xbox.

🤣🤣🤣 oh yeh , the hot stepmom who always gets stuck in the washing machine

  • +4

Enjoy the room temperature cola folks.

  • +3

I just wasted 13 minutes watching on YouTube to learn that it gets down to coldest of 10°C.

    • +2

Pretty sure this fridge uses the crappy Peltier plate to cool then a fan to blow. It generally has a pretty bad spec and depends largely on external temperatures on how low it is able to go down to.

    • +1

Yeah literally warmer than the ambient temperature in good old CBR atm. May as well just put your drinks outside.

A reminder that this is literally landfill.

  • I cancelled my order for the fridge I had with Mighty Ape and only then realised this is smaller. That said, I think I did the right thing cancelling, as they don't seem to be particularly good anyway lol.

    • Novelty Item, if you buy it for decoration then you might be satisfied, if you buy it for cooling capabilities then you will be utterly disappointed.

      • Yeah I see the appeal, and in the novelty context this smaller one makes a bit more sense as well.

      • +4

People are buying this for it’s cool factor not it’s cooling factor

TIL Xbox Series X got its design cues from household whiteware

    • +1

It's been a meme for some time now, even Microsoft played the meme before.

  • Because that's what the world needed, the original model fridge…"yeah, I like it. If ONLY it came in a smaller version though". Said absolutely nobody.

  • +4

    Landfill

  • not compatible with Samsung 980 Pro, I tried

    • Did it have the HEATSINK ??!

  • -1

Does this cooling down my Xbox Series X console?

    • +1

Nah but it may helping with your English

  • I think they will all end up on Ebay, Gumtree and Marketplace.

  • What sort of fps this thing get?

  • +1

How long till you get the Red ring of death?

  • Why does it say 120V? Is that an error?

  • Thats a minature of the real one. it doesnt have different levels of cooling, no interior light only half the interior space etc.. Its quite a bit smaller than the other one.

    • The bigger version doesn't have interior lighting either.

  • Thinking about getting one for the car, cheap price for a car fridge.. 8 cans is enough.

  • Don't think i'll be buying from JB again after what they did with the monitor sale they did a couple of days ago. Price jacking in the open…..
    No thanks

*Checks if it's April 1; nah… WTAF is this POS?

Edit: Oh, I get it; it's to put the XBOX in it to keep it from overheating, right - as in "XBOX Fridge". Brilliant.

    • -1

Xbox fans hate this comment lol

  • Will this fit inside the original fridge?

  • Looks like a good waste of money. They should have just made it an esky.
