    • I'd like to find out, too!

I did last time for zoo pass

      • You bought it online or at the counter ?

        • +1

          Online

    • +1

      Voucher is not acceptable.

Make sure get tax invoice from the establishment itself after using the vouchers.

    • +1

Yep, i've got the 25% rebate last time

      • You bought it online or at the counter ?

        • +1

Different person, but I went to the zoo on a free ticket from a promotion. I upgraded at the zoo to an annual pass. I was able to claim the cost of upgrading last time. Also got an annual Merlin Pass and claimed that.

          • @Miss B: When you upgraded, you had to pay the full fees for annual or Annual Fees - Free Ticket ? I mean if i go to Zoo on a day pass but deicide to upgrade to Annual, will I have to pay the full fees for Annual Pass or they will charge the difference i.e. Annual Fees - Day Pass fees ?

            • +1

@ChipsChicky: They charge a lesser amount. I think it was around $60-$70.

              • @Miss B: oh, that's good to know, I will call them and confirm tomorrow.

    • I'm curious if we can buy music memberships too…

      • no, it is not on the list of approved entertainment

    • Can confirm, I bought the Zoo membership yesterday and it was approved today.

  • Thanks good reminder!

  • +3

Nice, plunge the state into more debt while also adding onto inflation. Completely the wrong time to be doing this.

    • There's no wrong time when elections are around, there's no good time when elections are over

    • -3

Demand is down across the whole sector compared to pre-pandemic levels, even before the RBA started lifting rates. So many of our regular places have closed shop or changed owners. The extra debt ($33 million in the last round) will be nothing compared to lost tax revenue from businesses shutting down.

  • Is this a new round? What if I have claimed the max limit from previous round, Am I still eligible for another $125?

    • +1

      yes, its a new round…

    • -1

      Did you read the T&Cs?

  • -6

It's OK, Dan's going to (or at least wants to) fine people thousands of dollars for walking or swimming in the wrong place or moving rocks or playing sport.

    • +1

I have no idea what the context is (since you didn't bother to provide it), but in general people should absolutely be fined for doing those things in the wrong place. I don't want someone talking a walk or playing cricket in the middle of the freeway.

      • +1

Not hard to find info about this. Yes, it's to stop people playing cricket on freeways. How did you guess?

        • +6

Shockingly, I never believed the rules are about playing cricket on freeways. It was to highlight how your attempt at a political charged statement in lieu of facts really failed to deliver.

The rules seem perfectly reasonable, protecting our national parks. If you read the actual rules rather than trusting the tabloid press loving to call anything the state government does a nanny state or getting to use the phrase "dictator Dan", you'll find that most of the rules already existed and are just being updated. Swimming in bodies of water is regulated for people's own safety - it's due to water quality. If the water is safe to swim in it'll be signed, if it's not you're not meant to swim in it. Saving drowning idiots who decide to swim where they shouldn't costs money, do you want to pay for that?

Walking is limited to stop people trampling all over the plantlife and protect it. Again, this isn't new, fines for straying off paths have existed long before now. It's pretty much a "don't be a knob" rule.

Sports are generally allowed and only banned in specific circumstances. The example given in the rules is "For example, in an area of park used for barbeques or children's play areas, a determination might be made to prohibit certain sports which might interfere with these uses.". Are you really complaining about not being able to play sport in a child's play area or where people are trying to eat? Do you want to play golf in a park where there are families? This is just common sense stuff.

You're not allowed to destroy or move rocks or natural features in a park. What exactly do you need to move rocks for that this is a huge limitations on your freedums?

  • Yes!! Made a booking at a very flash place next month, this will help!

    • Unfortunately it won't now!

  • -3

Take my upvote.. but not my actual vote.
Dan Andrews - you disappoint me with this $25m complete waste of money.

  • Has anyone heard any word about another travel voucher round?

  • +6

RBA urges people to reduce spend to control the undeterred inflation and here you go. Mixed messaging from the government doesn't help.

    • +8

I concur, I was about to say the same. If the Government kept flashing cash around, we will end up suffering with interest rates raise and inflation out of control.

      • +3

my rule is, claim free money for as much as you can, cause when the tide goes out, everyone's gonna be paying, might as well build up a buffer.

        • That’s it. Just claim free money, how is this that hard to understand?

          • +3

@JMxoxo: It's not a question of claiming it or not. The whole scheme would work against what RBA is trying hard to achieve. How come a state govt and RBA are not in sync at all is what surprises me. I personally don't see any need to boost economy at this point since it's already very strong.

    • This assumes the current inflation crisis is a demand-induced one and not a supply-induced one. Most cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues are recording lower than pre-pandemic levels of business, especially in the CBD, due to the lack of international students, tourists, etc … I mean I guess you can starve most them out of business and that that will increase supply and lower demand, but is that really good for the economy?

    • +1

Capped at $25 million - barely a blip on the RBA's radar. That said cafes & restaurants outside CBD's seem to be doing rather well. https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/economy/finance/monthly-ho…

  • -2

How do you go about getting a restaurant to provide a tax invoice? For most, it's not really a normal thing they do day to day right?

    • +4

Just ask when you pay. They have to provide one if requested and most won't have a problem with it at all.

    • +1

Just take a copy of your bill?

  • just in time for school holidays too woot

  • does zoo count as amusement or theme park?

    • In the entertainment claim, there's a separate category for museums, galleries, zoos.

    • -1

      Did you read the T&Cs?

  • +2

Funny that i heard about this on ozbargain only. When was this announced?

    • +3

If all the "news" outlets weren't so focussed on repeating every single little detail about the Queen's death and funeral, they might have reported it.

    • If it wasn't the queens funeral tonight it might get a small run on the 6pm news.

  • Entertainment that is covered includes:

events and festivals (not including sporting events)
    cinemas
    exhibitions and conferences
    museums, galleries and zoos
live performances, including theatre, music, comedy, literary events and fashion shows

Well strippers back on the menu

    • +1

Well strippers back on the menu

Not sure where you're gonna pull a tax invoice from.

      • Enterprising strippers would have a Square reader in their g-string

        • Surely Stripe would be more in-keeping.

      • +2

Doesn't have to be a tax invoice for entertainment, but FWIW, my receipt from the Ticketmaster site for my purchase of Elvis Costello tickets was accepted.

        https://www.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2022-09/Victorian…

  • Is this a fresh start or the previous claims would be counted against $125 ? 👀🤔🤦‍♂️

  • -4

Good minions, good subjects, peasants, good, good… They will do anything just not what they should, they've forgotten already, we can proceed, this means we can do whatever with them and they will be happy, say thank you, ask for more. For a bit of handouts will sell themselves literally for free. Good, good….

  • Sooooo, living costs are going up due to high discretionary spending and the RBA is scratching their head why.

  • gooood news!!

  • +2

Gotta love all those sudden experts having heard bits about RBA, inflation and spending. So vocal about their concerns with this innitiative.

One only gets to wonder what the complaints would be if there's no stimulation and help for businesses at all.

    • -2

But but but but News Corp told me big government evil. USA USA USA.

People will crap on whatever the government they didn't vote for does.

  • +1

Is it valid to all restaurants?

    • +1

You can claim if you dine at any of the following:

      cafes and restaurants
bars and pubs (food must be purchased)
registered clubs – excluding private clubs not open to the public
breweries, distilleries and wineries (food must be purchased)
fast food and take away outlets, juice bars and kiosks
restaurants and cafes open to the public within accommodation such as hotels
hospitality venues within sporting, arts and theatre precincts
      food courts
      cinemas
temporary food premises including mobile food trucks, vans, canteens and trailers.
The program is available on a first come, first served basis until all funds are exhausted or by 11:59pm 16 December 2022.

You can make multiple claims for dining and entertainment until you reach a total of $125 cash back.

The following are not covered by the Victorian Dining and Entertainment Program:

      gift cards and vouchers
food ordered through a home delivery company (such as UberEats, EASI, Providoor, DoorDash, Menulog and Deliveroo). A receipt that contains a charge for delivery will not be eligible.
food purchased at convenience stores, milk bars, supermarkets, greengrocers, grocery stores, service stations, confectionary shops and packaged food stores
You must get a tax invoice at the point of sale that includes the business ABN and name, purchase date, items purchased and transaction total.

    • -1

      Did you read the T&Cs?

    • I believe as long as you can dine in.
Spent more than the limit last round at a burger joint that only does take away, and my claim was declined.

      • It could be the postcode or some other reason for the decline?

  • Can anyone clarify.
If I spend $25 at a takeaway but then $30 at another is that okay? Total is over $40. Or does it have to be over $40 each time?

    Thanks.

    • Rule is $40 minimum per invoice, 3 invoices and $500 maximum.

      • …3 invoices…

I can't see that limitation anywhere?

        • You're correct.
I think the previous round had a limit of 3?

          • +3

@McFly: there has never been a limit of 3 invoices, just the cap of $125

    • -3

      Did you read the T&Cs?

  • If i booked a show happening this week before yesterday, can i still claim it?

    • +1

I'd say they base it on invoice date.
Lucky I didn't get to book those Harry Potter tickets yesterday!

    • -4

      Did you read the T&Cs?

      • +3

Why should we read it when you can do it for us and post it here

        • And that is why we see people then complaining that their claims were not accepted, blah, blah, blah….

        • Good one 😂

    • +3

Tax invoices and proofs of purchases dated prior to 10am Monday 19 September 2022 will not be accepted.

    • -2

Photoshop it.. not that it is something I would do of course..

      • Brilliant! Just photoshop some $500 invoices. Oh and also photoshop some driver's licenses so you can open multiple bank accounts under various fake names to multiple-dip.
Seems like too much troubles and legal risks for $125, I would rather go and buy some Vanilla gift cards instead.

  • +1

Love how this isn’t just limited to residents of the state but also anyone who visits.

Hate that I’m not in Vic right now…

    • +3

there is a reason 100k residents left victoria last year….

      • +5

I hope they continue to leave….

      • Tell us more about it

  • -3

Dan says it on him….no you communist clown, its on US, the taxpayers

    • -2

Don't be mean… to communist clowns.

    • if vic is the only one getting the benefits then we get out ahead on net, thanks for subsiding us to the rest of australia, ahha

  • Perfect timing for Mary Poppins! Also fringe fest and monet.

  • +1

I think it’s a waste of taxpayers money.

I claimed tonight’s dinner but doesn’t change my mind it’s a waste of money.

    The $25m will go quickly.

    • wait dan said its on him? what am i missing….

      • +4

Yeah, it's 'on him' about as much as he 'takes full responsibility' for the corruption, incompetence, and waste of his government.

      • Yeah it’s on him, who will borrow from us and then disappear.

    • I don't think they exhausted the last round of funding. We almost used it until the last day.

It's tax money you can see / taste directly the benefit. I don't take the train hence don't really benefit the railway crossing removals for e.g

      And it helps local businesses.

      • +1

Oh really? I would have thought it was more popular. We eat out quite a bit so have used up our quota in the first few weeks in the past.

I remember in the past, they tried to implement a graph to show how much funds were remaining which never worked. This time they didn’t bother.

Crossing removal benefits the motorist more than train passengers haha

      • This round only lasted 2 weeks.

  • Hi everyone

I have just booked my Royal Show tickets and rides for the family and submitted my claim.

At face value I believe these should be eligible for the rebate although I doubt that showbag costs would be rebateable.

This significantly reduces the costs of going to the Show and you can cut the cost even further by buying the discounted ride passes and discount Show tickets (note: discounts end Tuesday.

Remember to get receipts with all the necessary details.

    cheers Peter

    • Did the same but I'd think it marginally reduces the costs instead of significantly. Still overpriced even at 25% off, and the website refuses to take the Vanilla gift cards, not happy about it lol.

      • I do wonder whether purchasing showbags could qualify or not.

Anyone have any thoughts? It is buying from a food van.

        • I do wonder whether purchasing showbags could qualify or not.

          no

        • -1

There is no need to think, just upload the receipt. The chance is that it will be automatically approved given all the necessary info is there and the value is not too high.
