And at $0.79 it works out cheaper to buy them separately than in a 4x pack 😁

    • +1

I saw this a couple nights ago. Ended up with 2x 4 packs as i cbf carrying 8 individual cans. Against the Ozbargain way I know…

      • +2

If only there was some kind of device (Maybe made out of plastic) that could hold multiple things at once so you only have to carry one thing!

        • +3

          A standard bucket!

    • -1

Exactly I dont know why people buy the 4 pack when 4 lots of singles works out to be cheaper

But from my personal experience Aldi's homebranded energy drinks aren't capable of keeping someone from going asleep But Monster, Red Bull etc are

      • +2

I've always thought these are exactly the same as red bull, made by the same plant, just different flavours

  • Gives you wings?
    Or magic?

    • +8

Makes you fly to the toilet

  • +14

Basically cheap red bull, i can hardly tell a difference between a chilled can of either

    • Same.

  • How about taste?
I never tried energy drink last 10 years, even Red bull. Except coffee, I'm having 2 shots everyday.

    • +7

That's just like asking how does soft drink taste. Do you want sugar or sugar free? Out of these I like tropic but honestly buy one of each at this price and see what you like.

      • +2

Yeah, it's not going to be wrong at this price.
I don't like sugar free products.
I will try next time when I visit to Aldi.

    • +1

I love red bull zero taste. I don't like other brands or other red bull flavours. I do like the sugar free aldi version though. Taste is different but nice

    • My best advice is to stay off this drinks.

      • +3

        What's the reasoning behind this?

I don't drink these drinks anyway, but curious on your reasoning.

        • The combination of taurine, caffeine & guarana, can make your heart race faster.
          Plus the sugar content, etc.

          PS:
Not a medical doctor, nor medical advice.

          PPS:
I still drink energy drinks … but rarely.

        • +1

Not who you were asking but I'd say the major thing for me would be the sugar content and caffeine (if you're sensitive to it/have heart conditions). I still drink them and cannot stand "sugar free" drinks (aka with stevia/other sweeteners I can do black coffee fine). Regardless of sugar content they're usually not too great for your teeth. If used instead of coffee as a daily ritual there's the costs/packaging involved with regular consumption but probably no worse than a beer.

Some people aren't good at limiting their caffeine intake at night also and so they'll understandably struggle to sleep. Often its used to get them through the last thing of the day or whatever but has longer implications than they expect.

That said I don't really see anything super horribly wrong with them when put in context of everything else we have day to day.

          • @lancesta: Which ingredient is bad for teeth?

          • +2

@lancesta: I knew a relatively young women in her late 20's got up to answer the door and dropped dead, doctors linked it to her intake of energy drinks. She was having like 6-8 a day though, and was doing so for a few years - which is highly unadvisable. If you're having one or two on occasion probably fine. I rarely touch them, I find even having 2 in one sitting makes me jittery and sweaty; personally might have one as a treat for a late working night, or long car trip (just once every 3 months). No substitute for sleep, but coffee comes close :P
Kidney stones are my biggest concern. May still pick up an annual supply (4)!

            • +2

@Oipjo: Friendly reminder to anyone here (no one in particular) that maximum is no more than 500ml per day. Spacing out 2 x 250ml 5 hours apart (caffeine half-life) if you need another is better than slamming down 500ml all at once.

Just like everything in life, know your limits and you'll be fine

              • @pennypincher98: I'm not too sure where the 500mL (160mg caffeine) rule/suggestion comes from. I've seen it on packets also and don't think it's a bad guide at all but it seems a bit arbitrary. If you've got a heart condition then 160mg can be fatal so I definitely think your suggestion about spacing it out is important (for anyone).

I've found this that seems to suggest that >400mg is where many adverse affects come.
                https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/1028415X.2018.1…

This article a bit more targeted to Australian audiences also mentions 400mg https://druginfo.sl.nsw.gov.au/drugs/z-drugs/caffeine . Also of interest it says concentrated caffeine shots (over a certain concentration limit) cannot be made in Australia which I had no idea about.

I definitely reckon we should be better educated on caffeine and know the amount consumed. Coffees a bit hard as it's level varies a fair bit. But if you know 80mg makes you jittery then you might be a bit more careful about your consumption next time and go for a green tea or something a bit more mild.

                • @lancesta: Well it is actually a 1 can limit a day which can be 150mg or up to 160mg (maximum concentration allowed in Australia is 32mg/100ml, idk if this is an American rule imported over where energy drinks can have a lot more).
This is equivalent to approximately 2 instant coffees, which isn't a lot. It's mainly a legality to ensure a company doesn't breach their duty of care to the 'contract' existing between the company and consumer.

                  For coffee this is:
"To stay within safe amounts, drink no more than 400 mg daily, or 200 mg of caffeine at a time."

Same thing with alcohol, unless you're a real lightweight you can over the 2 standard drinks without feeling effects.

Both laws came in regarding people abusing the substances, and soft 'limits' were imposed at a minimum level that 99.9% of people would be fine if they stayed under.

I've gone way over 400mg a day (on ice coffees) and survived but was it worth it? Not really.

                  • @pennypincher98: Oh yeah that makes sense.

I worked my way to 1-1.5g daily before. Wasn't the best idea but my tolerance by that stage was really high. The withdrawals were pretty bad but went away with another coffee lol. Now it's 100mg daily with the odd day of 300mg.

            • +1

@Oipjo: Yeah, ive seen many kids down energy drinks as if it were water, they'll be toothless at best or dead by 30.

            • @Oipjo: Thanks for sharing, I'm honestly surprised that she was able to do it over such a long time. I kinda had the assumption that if you had heart conditions it'd show up early on and if you had that much caffeine daily that you're body would essentially just become tolerant to it. If they were the typical small cans, that'd be half a gram of caffeine a day which is pretty rediculous.

When I was in school I had heaps more than I should, mainly in the form of NoDoz. Definitely glad I've lowered the amount I have so it actually has a good effect when I need it (driving/late nights e.c.t.). I'd probably embrace the annual supply also.

    • +1

I think Red Bull is the worst tasting out of all the energy drinks, so how bad could it be.

  • +1

Cant find the mango flavour anymore. They were a good buy.

    • +23

      Now they're a goodbye.

    • Isn’t mango and watermelon the flavour of the 500ml cans?

      • Only tropical at my Aldi stores.

  • +2

Could've sworn I saw this posted but wasn't in title

These are great for 79c. 69c with return and earn.

  • I prefer Red Cow.
Not that has anything to do with this deal! <wink, wink>

  • +1

Personally i don't like the sugar free ones, has a strong aftertaste.

My old trick was to take one can of red, and one can of blue, pour both in a large 500ml+ cup, and enjoy the flavour of normal, but with only half the sugar.

  • +1

Wow they really jacked up the normal price, used to be 99c a can earlier this year.

    • Jackers

    • +3

ALDI have been really cranking some of their prices. Another random one I noticed is sweetened condensed milk. Went up from $1.39 to $1.99 within a week.

  • +1

I just grabbed one and reckon it was this price a month ago too. Either way no complaints, it's not bad at full price imo.

    • Yes at the very least it's been going for a few weeks now at my local anyway

  • Yes these have been discounted at my local (Melbourne West) for a couple weeks now, I'm assuming they're getting rid of old stock so they only sell the 4pks in future.
Kinda annoying carrying a bunch home but I'm true OzB spirit gotta save when you can lol

    • I'm assuming they're getting rid of old stock so they only sell the 4pks in future.

Nope, just a monthly super saver. Special lasts until October 6. Until then, it's cheaper to buy 4x singles lol

  • -1

saw these on special to at my local aldi

  • +2

79c is a bargain. I prefer these to Red Bull sugar free, which now tastes too sweet.

Cheaper than buying a four pack, which are poorly made and tend to fall apart.

  • -8
    • Flying power != Red Bull

  • Do any of the varieties taste similar to the Monster mango? That's my go to and I often end up paying a lot more as I tend to get it from servos.Maybe I can switch to this if the tropical ones tastes similar.

    • +1

The Tropic doesn't taste like Monster Mango (either the Ultra/Sugar Free or normal). If you find some remaining Mango limited edition cans (I think they're 500ml) they taste similar.

This tastes like Red Bull's Yellow Edition (surprise surprise there) and the sugar free version reminds me of Rockstar's El Mango (minus that smell)

  • -1

    Rubbish stick to water

  • I quite like the taste of these energy drinks especially the guarana one. Not a fan of the tropical one though. They don't taste as good as Red Bull and V imo but I can justify the taste given the price.

  • I tried tropical and guarana flavour.
In my case guarana is much better than tropical.
However, I'm not sure is it refilled my energy or not…
