Better off getting 10tb for an extra $30

    • Where is 10tb for $300

It’s not that hard to search for it. But here you go
        https://www.mwave.com.au/product/seagate-st10000vn000-10tb-i…

        • I've found mwave's search and listings to be hit and miss at times. Thanks for the link though, food for thought for those building a NAS.

        • It's not part of the promo - I asked them. It's only the helium version which ends with 0008 that's part of it.

  • Receive a BONUS Prezzee e-Gift Card worth up to $150!
when purchasing TWO of the same qualifying Seagate IronWolf HDD products.

    Appears to be $50 Prezzee e-Gift Card for 2 x Ironwolf 8TB

    • Thanks Richard. I forgot to add this info initially. Added it now in description.

  • Same price at Umart and Scorptec if you're not in Sydney. (Not sure if they are eligible for the giftcard promo though).

The 8TB drives are currently also $269 each

  • How are 8TB hard drives still relatively expensive, seems like they were this price a few years ago

    • COVID bumped them up past this, I think. So this is a deal now

      • Chia FOMO didn't help either.

    • With inflation, wouldn't that mean they are cheaper now?

  • Has anyone give their experience with the operating noise from these Ironwolf drives? I have read quite a few posts about them being very loud in comparison to WD or standard desktop drives.
I'm not expecting them to be silent, but there are enough posts saying "had to move them to another room they are so loud" to concern me.

I can't hear mine. Its about 0.5m from my ears under the desk but maybe that's just me going deaf lol.

This same question is asked and answered in nearly every single post of these.

I personally run both and find the WD red to be louder- though neither I would consider loud. I think it is entirely based on how they're mounted. Mine are in a Node 304, in the living room and pose no real sound annoyance. That placement in the living room is about 3m away from my bedroom- my partner is a fussy sleeper, and has never once mentioned the noise of either.

      • Yea, its frustrating that there doesn't seem to be any consistency. Perhaps its down to the model or even the batch. I'll be putting them in a Synology NAS, so hopefully there is enough sound dampening built in.

I am using 4 of them in Synology. For first week, I used to hear noise but now I got used to it. Noise is there and people suggest putting velcro and what not in NAS to stop vibration but nothing helps.

I have finally decided to live with it. Using it for more than an year now. No issues with HDDs.

  • I can hear my 4x 8TB IronWolf in Synology ds920+. You can literally hear it seaching. Even put a sound dampener under.
