That's my boy, I'm proud of ya !

    • +14

The jensen jacket will jack it. Prices that is. To the moon.

    • +5

Huang on a minute, do I know you?

    • +5

For those who don't get the joke, Jensen Huang is the president of Nvidia.

(He's been lambasted quite a bit online recently for drastically increasing the RRP of the new 4000 series cards over the already-inflated prices of these older 3000 series cards, and other greedy/deceptive seeming conduct).

    • +1

      Yes master, everything for you.

  • +11

    Hodl!

    • -3

      Hodl is over!

Eth Merge is done and dusted, all those mining cards that were supposed to be flooding the market never came?

4080 12gb for $1800+ is a rippoff, it is slower than a 3090ti, dont believe the dlss3 crap which will be hacked for 3xxx series in no time

      • +8

Check out the used card market, it is dumping

        • +6

Not sure where your looking but I've been looking at GPUs in Gumtree past two weeks and they just as expensive as eBay if not more…

        • +3

I check out the used card market literally every day! Gumtree, facebook, forums

Nothing has changed since eth merge/4xxx announcement!

The super cheap cards are all from scammers telling you they are "out of town" and need direct deposit lol!

Find me a legit seller selling cheap mined? 3090/3090ti

      • +6

But the optical flow ray unicycle accelerator !!

        • +1

          What about the flux capacitor?

      • +1

The mergers heard the call, they also hodl.
Everyone hodls now. Hodl price, hodl dump, hodl buy.

      • +4

        You've seen benchmarks? Or speculation?

      • +3

        HODL isn't over you're dreaming

        • -4

it will be sold out before you can say HODL next time.

you'll be the one left without gpu and I'll be the one laughing last.

      • +6

Ah yes quick give them your money or your money will disappear.
God forbid he waits to get a decent deal and not get ripped off.

Just because you were stupid enough to buy 2-3x the price doesn't mean others have to just to make you feel better about your purchase.

        • -3

You lost me at 2-3x the price.

          • +3

@qtntom: You must be new to PC gaming.

For all previous generations of GPUs, it's not unusual for the flagship card to be $500 to $600 this late in it's lifecycle (or less, if you go back 5 gens or more).

Even accounting for inflation, this is still a ridiculous price.

      • +2

I was monitoring ebay these days and most used cards are going around $1200 these days, even in that market some are buying used cards for 1400 etc, definitely not ozbargainers considering that even new are 1600

      • +1

Eth Merge is done and dusted, all those mining cards that were supposed to be flooding the market never came?

Merge was only a few days ago, it's early days. But even then, 3070s are selling for just over $500 AUD second hand. People were paying $2k+ for them at the height of the ETH mining boom.

        4080 12gb for $1800+

The "4080 12gb" would be around $1500 AUD, but it's a fake price, just like the other 4080. The 4080 pricing is designed to make people buy either the 4090 or Ampere before AMD launches RDNA 3 in November.

NVIDIA knows that a $900 card with a 192 bit bus and 12gb of VRAM will never sell when 3090s with similar gaming performance are going for ~$700 USD and crashing.

        • +2

@iseeyou1312 the msrp is $1659 aud for the 12gb 4080, we all know AIBs are not going to charge that!

$1800 would be minimum for aib card, $1659 is for imaginary founders edition cards that don't exist in Aus!

          • -1

@neosin: Apparently those numbers are correct, but I don't see how Australia is being charged an 85% markup over US pricing. Normally we pay 60-70% more than the US MSRP after the exchange rate and taxes.
The RTX 3080 was 63% higher than the US MSRP in Australia. If it had Lovelace's markup, the $1139 MSRP would've actually been ~$1300 lol.

            • -1

@iseeyou1312: @iseeyou1312 You should revist your MATH :P

              4080 12gb $899 usd = 1,377.14 aud

$1377 +10% gst = $1514 (this is in a perfect word with 0 aussie markup by distributors/wholesalers/retailers + AIB custom designs)

              $1377 marked up to $1800 = 34% markup
              $1514 marked up to $1800 = 19% markup

Not sure where you are getting 85% from?

              • -3

@neosin: 1659/859 = 1.85, or an 85% increase from the US pricing, markup probably wasn't the right word to use. Normally the increase over USD is 60-70%, as I explained in my example.

      • +2

I don't know why your begged bro. People are lost that's why I said crypto is now dead.

Now with eth on POS, no more mining. And btc hasn't been worth mining for a while now.

I upvoted you, seems the only one with common sense

      • +2

There is going to be a mining card flood, so Hold!
        Unless you want Lovelace more.

  • +4

I think I'd rather a 6900 XT, but there are some benefits to Nvidia so, well it has 24GB of GDDR6X so fast memory or more than 16GB, yep this, probably the encoding, probably ray tracing titles, probably DLSS 2.0, so a few things I guess.

    • they have one going for 1.1k is that a goog deal? đź‘€

    • I've got a 65" oled, dlss and g-sync are important features for me so its nvidia again this time around for me.

      • +5

Would freesync not meet your needs exactly the same as G-Sync? AFAIK theirs not a single 65” OLED that has G-Sync hardware.

        • -4

There are plenty I have an lg cx

          • +7

@meds21: That’s not actual G-Sync though the actual LG implementation is AMD Freesync.

            • +1

@AusNugz: That is news to me

              • +7

@meds21: Nvidia marketing machine strikes again! "Real" G-Sync with its proprietary and expensive dedicated hardware module is all but dead (good riddance)

          • +1

@meds21: Yeah it's G-sync compatible, so good news is your options for the future are more open if you upgrade/change GPUs in the future, I haven't read up on it again but G-sync mostly has advantages (afaik) at 'very' low frame rates, with freesync bottoming out at, 44fps or something like that vs 4fps.
DLSS is great, but AMD have a response to it which is similar and not 'as' game dependent I don't think.
            Anyway, solid GPU enjoy it.

    • +2

If you're buying the top flight card and still planning to use dlss then I hate to think what resolution you're using.

      • +4

4K. Still need DLSS if you want high settings and RT.

      • -1

        WTF, no clue

  • +1

How much faster is this than 3080 10GB?

    • +2

Depends on title but ~10% was common.

    • +5

The 3080Ti is nearly identical to the 3090 in gaming performance

      $1349 for this one
      https://www.mwave.com.au/product/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3080-t…

      • Same one at scorptec. The front page of promos claim it comes with an ssd

        • Option (A): Buy Selected RTX 3080Ti Card to get 1x BONUS GIGABYTE M.2 SSD 1TB (MSRP $159inc) - Sell it for at least $100?

Gaming OC is 1499 but that's only $100 less then the 3090, even though the gaming performance is basically the same I'd go for the 3090 at that price difference.

          • @Hank Scorpion: yeah they have another 3080 ti worth 1.4k i believe + ssd & spiderman (i believe) but dealers choice 🤙

      • +2

        Yes but that's a shit 3080Ti.

    • well i cant even play VR game smoothly on my 3080 10g. i wish i bought a 12G + model, but what did i know…

      • +1

Lol what cpu and ram is bottlenecking you bro

      • +2

I'm running VR games fine on a 3060ti desktop and a 3070 140w laptop. I think your issue is elsewhere.

  • Wouldn't the 4080 at the same price be better ? But sure you needed a replacement for your 1080, what games are you playing that need a 3090 ?

    • +9

Idk if you've been keeping up with the 4000 series announcement but it's not very appealing if you're after a bargain. Lots of people were holding off their 3000 series purchases for the 4000 GPU's but in reality it's just gonna be a whole lot more waiting which if you've been waiting since the beginning of the crypto craze, it's been a long, long time.

      • +1

You probably don't know but crypto faze is now dead.

Expect big price drops on cards coming soon

        • Thats a fairly large assumption. Just like a lot of people thought the 40 series was going to come in at reasonable prices.
Jensen made it clear, 4000 series sits ontop of the 3000 series. I fully expect prices to remain around where they are now. Until later in the year, early next year anyway. When the 4070 etc come out then the 3080s etc don't make sense.

          • +2

@garvani: I checked my crypto mining, what I used to make in 1 week now takes 3 months. So I've stopped, it's not worth wasting electricity for anymore. I expect the price of RTX 4000 to launch high, and it will get stuck in a similar situation with too much stock in the channel at too high a price.

        • +1

Yep it's actually called rampant inflation

      • +3

Don't think there's 'that' much waiting to do when RDA3 is around the corner. will be RX '7800 ' or whatever that will have performance close or above this …and if you've waiting this long may as well wait another few months, after all we're only talking playing a few games here. unless the OP uses it to produce income

        • Produce income with what exactly?

          • +1

@Bretttick: Let's say the op is a video editor And uses the graphics card power to render them. The faster the graphics card, the quicker he can produce videos , the more income he can make?

            • @Doomedgrind: Ah yes for that, it would generate income. I thought you we're referencing for mining.

Eth just killed mining now that they are on pos

              • +1

@Bretttick: No, mining is long gone. But to play a few games, a 3090 is not needed. Most games still even run perfectly fine on a 960/970 or if you managed to get on of those 6600xt deals for under 300 then win win. Point is ppl who don't have the money are still blowing over 1k on graphics cards lol and are usually the ones complaining they can't afford their rent or food etc.

    • 4080 won't be $1599, not even the founder. $1700 upwards at least.

  • -7

Waste of money unless you need it to produce income of at least $500/wk …

    • +8

      Lol, what?

      • -5

What part of this doesn't make sense? if you're just playing games, why waste this much just to play a few games? unless you need it for production work and use it to produce income?

        • +21

Spoken like someone who has an ass tighter than those seals on those annoying tomato paste packets

          • -2

@Dvbargain: simply just sick of ppl complaining that their rent is too high, or can't afford houses etc. then turn around and find those ppl are spending 1k+ on phones or graphics cards lol (guessing you're not one of them)

            • +2

@Doomedgrind: You're right that it's a crazy waste of money for a very subtle difference in visuals, but your original comment got negged because it really did not make sense.

  • +9

    Crazy high price.

    • +1

no thats the 4090 at $2900+

      • +12

Both, theyre both not a bargain.

      • +2

Pre order price already below RRP in China. It hit down to 9559 CNY which is 2045 AUD with GainWard. Price rise up to equal 2145 AUD at the moment.
Gigabyte 4090 is 10500 CNY which equal AUD 2240 as pre order .

        • +1

So what, it's Australia, the AIC here has never sold graphics cards cheaper than in China.

          • @Windfall: Yes and no. Actually the deal $799 6800XT is cheaper than China. By the way, this 3090 is cheaper vs China's price. I am no working for any retailers just calm down.

          • @Windfall: not really, GPUs are regularly cheaper ins Australia than China during sales/upsized cashbacks. Cheaper than most of the world (except USA) if you time it with GST back on a vacation.

there's pretty much zero real sales/discounts in China.

        • Just out of curiosity can you provide a link please

      • 1600 USD is not 2900 AUD

        see the market

        • +1

It may not but add GST, shipping, duty costs etc etc and you get to $2900.
Here's Nvidia's Official Australian pricing. https://www.nvidia.com/en-au/geforce/buy/ $2959. Just because you don't want it to be true doesn't make it so.

          • @garvani: I see your point but even with taxes, Gst, duty and shipping it shouldn't equal to $2900 imo. Unless shipping, taxes and shipping truly cost $500

As iseeyou1312 said above "Apparently those numbers are correct, but I don't see how Australia is being charged an 85% markup over US pricing. Normally we pay 60-70% more than the US MSRP after the exchange rate and taxes.
The RTX 3080 was 63% higher than the US MSRP in Australia."

  • I have this card in 3080, bought for the same amount of money :(

    • I'm sure a lot of people did too

    • +1

Why are you holding on and didn't sell when the prices were falling?

      • +2

or why did they buy at double price is the right question lol…

    • -3

Silly enough to knowingly buy it at double the price must of really needed to play those games.. gotta laugh at these type of people

      • +1

overpaid my 3080 as well, almost 2 years ago. had a dying 580.
2 years of gaming isnt much to brag about, but all the new friends i met alone the way was priceless.

      • 3080 bought in late 2020 would have made $2500 worth of ETH. I gave one of my non-LHR 3080s to poor people on the street for free.

  • +1

seems like we should expect ampere prices to stagnate a bit to scare people into buying them. the obnoxious pricing of the costly-to-produce lovelace gpus makes buying these horribly priced cards appear more alluring, too.

  • +4

Dont worth a downvote, but thar price seems kinda average.

Give it a few weeks, cant see it going up, going down seems plausible.

  • +2

    HODL continues

    • drop it by $100 like AusPCmarket and will sold out in a jiffy. I want one as well.

  • +3

Wouldn't even pay $1200 for this lol let alone $1600 people are freaking out if you think this is a good deal lmao especially with 4000 series right around the corner

    • Why are we putting it on ozb at 1600 lol… who would waste that much money just to play a few games. unless of course the ppl willing to pay this much already own say 3-5 properties? or have their uni fees already paid off… etc

      • +1

video games is cheap hobby compared to other things like skiing or cars or luxury watches or golf etc. Anyone should be able to drop 4k for a good graphics card. graphics cards are just too cheap right now!

      • +3

Some people have gambling, drinking, drug problems, or have expensive cars etc. I have none of those and earn a below average 85k a year. I had $4500 ready to go for a new PC, I have started buying already. It's a purchase that will last atleast 3 years, comes out to like $25 a week over that 3 years, chump change.
