  • These were 5 bucks clearance at my Bunnings a few months ago. Didn't post because there wasn't many. Hopefully there are similar discounts at other bunnings.

  • What is the easiest way to get a powerpass?

To successfully complete the online application form, please have available:

Your ABN or ACN (not required for Apprentices or Owner Builders). You will require the trustee details if you are applying under a trust ABN.

    • Could one hypothetically get a screen shot of the power pass barcode, and use that to scan??

      • Hypothetically of course. Just be aware the QR code generated by the Powerpass app has the current date appended to it, I assume to catch out screenshotters, so you wouldn't want to use that as a source.

  • WARNING: unless you go to the same campsites and know how far the power & water is from the best spot on the site, DO NOT buy under 20m.

We figured it out the hard way and bought the 10m one from Bunnings and it wasn’t enough for some of the sites we’ve visited.

    • Buy 2 leads.

      • Good point but I was referring to people who haven’t bought one. Who wants 2 leads when they can have 1 if they knew about it.

        • … are there any sites where (say) 23m is required?
Two of these are 24m. ( wink )

          • @AdModnar: Unfortunately not, well I’ve never seen it. I guess as each individual site is different and also each caravan/camper can have a different setup, so it’s hard to say.

        No.
The bigger leads are 2.5mm cable.
X2 leads with 1.5mm will struggle if you need the full 15a.

This why long with correct sided 2.5mm wire @15a are well over $100.00

  • Will not fit standard 10 Amp outlet.

    Why not?

The middle prong is longer than the standard ones in your house.

      • Why would they do that?

I’m guessing but could be due to the increased current with the 15 amp. As far as I’m aware they have always been like that. The plugs like the same until closer inspection so maybe that’s why they made them slightly different so only the correct type will fit.

          • @bobwokeup:

due to the increased current with the 15 amp.

Doesn't make sense that you can't use it at home.
If you use too much current, your circuit breaker will kick in.

            • @jv: I’m just guessing. It physically won’t fit in the home sockets.

@bobwokeup: if you Dremel down the male ground post a little then it fits fine in a 10A plug,

my dad did this on a number of 15A leads and they have worked fine the past 20+ years.

                  @Rod M: Untill you take 15a 3200w out of a 10a 2000w plug.
At best breaker will trip and at worst melt a cable in a wall cavity.

@REDTUTE: yea, but he never used them on a 15A devices, he got the cords for free,

            • +1

@jv: Back in the day, and plenty still, have fuses. But it was designed to safely ensure a decent old school welder for example, was not run on 10 amp plugs.

Different plugs/sockets. You can always insert a plug into a higher rated socket, but not a lower rated.

      https://www.plugsocketmuseum.nl/Australian_3hd.html

I've only ever seen the 15amp variant occasionally in domestic builds, usually for air conditioners and the like.

      • Very helpfull!

      • Sheds, Ive got tools that need 15 amps… some pool or tank water pumps…

        • Don't get me wrong, they definitely are used. Just not generally installed as standard.
