The Da Vinci Code Book for $1.50 at Coles (and More Books)

950

Hi, my name is Shmahoo and I'd like to make a confession.

Ozbargain has simultaneously enhanced and ruined my life. When I see a latest Solid State Hard Drive for a ridiculous bargain price, I have to think twice before NOT buying it, just coz it's a bargain. I'm 37 years old, and I think if I saw a deal on retirement villages I'd possibly take it up "COZ IT'S A BARGAIN"

With that in mind, I present the events from yesterday. I mainly shop at Coles, and have eyed their book bargain bin for a number of weeks. Starting at $5, they are now down to $1.50. And this is the sad part of the story.

Yesterday I bought a copy of Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code". I haven't read it, probably won;t ever read it, but at least I'll own a copy.

And so ends this week's "confessions of an OzBargainer"

And from that we shall draw our own conclusions.

    • Let's hope the ink is waterproof…

      • …or not! Imagine the joy of finding the lost symbol on SBOB's ring-stinger! :o

i think you mean on my 'opus dei' ;)

One word to make hundreds of readers wince: papercut.

      • +2

No fear…I think OZB's behinds are already made of the finest leather.

        • İ thought they were tight behinds.

    • That's a bit rough.

Amen brother :) You speak for all of us OzBargainers - I have no need for an SSD … but how many times have I said "wow, that's cheap … maybe I could do with one anyway". However, I have resisted the temptations of commercial sin.

I bought the 64GB USB for $30 inc postage, because it was so cheap…I don't need one but can see so many good uses for it!

  • +6

Lolz +1 for the great writeup

    • +2

posts like this automatically warrant a +1 from me… Nice writing OP!

      • Xclnt writing

  • +3

    Lol, well said.

Anyone think we should open a section (voting section maybe?) of some sort to list out what bargain deal people have bought but never get to use it? It will be kinda fun to know the result…

+1 for my $199 laptop, still sitting there in its box. In my drawer, never to see the light of day.

Maybe I could put a cheap SSD from Amazon in it? THEN MAYBE I'll get some use out of it?

      • I'd be getting that thing

And so ends this week's "confessions of an OzBargainer"

Maybe if you make a book of your confessions it may sell for more than $1.50. Win! :)

  • +7

It's alright on a cold night, but the pages burn quickly and won't keep you warm for long.

This book is an ideal candidate for hiding something in. Hollow out the book, seal the inside with masking tape, and voila, a secret storage compartment that no one is guaranteed to look inside.

  • +2

+1 if just for the intro…

I think we need "Confessions of an OzBargainer" in the wiki. Something like Epic Threads. Just so people can share their bad/awesome bargain related stories. OzBargain has effectively cost me more money than i would like to think about. So I don't think, and I just pay the credit card bill each month… :P

We also need 'Confessions' unrated edition for risque deals! :)

    "The Da Vinci Code"

    SPOILER ALERT-
    this is a crap book

    • +2

I'd expect that type of comment from jv !!

      • +4

with the extra bold formatting and H1 headers, neg vote & followed by a rant on how the price is missing from the title.

        • +1

          Don't forget the prawns! ;)

      • JV would have sworn and had a dozen negs.

though I'm still flattered by your comment.

This is a dupe of a deal post a week ago. And if you're sensible, you'll use the book to light fires - Dan Brown is a terrible writer.

    • +1

From what I've been able to gather after speaking to a few femmo colleagues & friends, it seems that the anti-Brown bashing fad stems from the guilt & shame of having read the book & enjoyed it, perhaps even finding it 'enlightening or empowering for women'; only to find out later that a work of pulp fiction contained glaring inaccuracies…shock, news at 11. :p

      • +1

i'm kinda keen now to see the report on this at 11… :P

      • +2

"perhaps even finding it 'enlightening or empowering for women'"

Goodness me, you'd have to drop an awful lot of acid to get that from The Da Vinci Code.

        • +1

Hmm, not LySergic acid Diethylamide…more like Oestrogen!

          Flame suit…ON!!! :p

    • +1

Yeah, more or less a dupe - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71987

  • +14

this deal is definitely a dupe. But at least it was a dupe with passion, and a little drama. And I wrote it while my shirt was unbuttoned, so it had a little eye candy for the ladies too

    Well done, OP !

LOL, you are hairy like animal! :)

    • +6

      Photo or it didn't happen.

      • lol

  • Your name is Shmahoo?

    • +7

I think the question that should be asked is, "is yours Coxjon?"

      • +1

Would the real Slim Shady please stand up? :)

  • -2

    ….:)

  • +3

    still a rip off

You guys prob watched the movie first. Hated the movie but I read the book first. One of those books I couldn't put down as it was so engaging for guys or gals.

    • Agreed. Sure it's got some technical flaws and apparently Brown isn't as prosaic as some folks would like, but I didn't mind it at all. IMHO it's ok to like things that aren't perfect! :)

      • +1

Oh boy, not this again /dons flame suit.

Thanks, they didn't have Dan Brown but I managed to get a copy of Steig Larssons, David Baldacci and Jeffery Archer for $1.50

  • Won't ever read this book but it will make me look smarter if I put it on the bookshelf :D

  • +1 for the funny description hahaha

My library fines are up to about 20 bucks now. So this is a really good deal if youre in my situation.

  • +1

I picked up "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" for $1.50 too. Passed it to my mom who would probably read it than myself so it was an absolute bargain. I will keep an eye out for Da Vinci Code, thanks for the heads up OP!
