But what is the price son

    • Please put the price in the heading

  • free? no price in title

    • +35

This is why people are scared to post. OP missed a key detail, yes, but regardless thanks OP for posting!

    • +3

Not having the price is better than not having the deal posted in OZB out of fear. Be thankful for posting the deal and be supportive when giving feedbacks.

    • +2

Worked for a company that managed a large site that handles user submitted content, along with a bunch of sister sites. They implemented codes of conduct across all of them that would see comments like these get nuked along with the user accounts that made them if they did it often enough. Saw engagement rates and eventually revenue spike after a couple of months. Possibly food for thought for mods.
Not sure if this was just meant to be banter, but it doesn't translate well as text over the internet and just chases users away. Hurts the owners of the site as well as users looking for a deal.

  • +23

    Price is there now… 👍🏻

    • +2

Thanks for the post OP. And thanks again for adding the price.

  • Not sure why but I get the impression you need a price in the title.

    • +2

I added it? Maybe it takes a while to update it

      • -1

Nah, it was a joke. Its there

        • +22

Ha… Got me there, was supposed to be a proud moment for my first post

  • +12

This may already have been said in the past but if you are buying a SECOND box to run in another room, you can't mix store-bought boxes with ISP-supplied boxes on the same account. In the same vein, you can't directly replace an ISP-supplied box with a store-bought one - the store bought boxes must run on an account directly from Fetch and not your ISP account. I found this out the hard way when, after about three years worked out that I was paying for two subscriptions..

    • -1

Welll thats F#^ked! I bout thr refurb unit for $99 from thr fetch site a frw weeks ago.

      • That was a store model and so is this, so you're good to go.

Avoid the boxes supplied by ISPs for this reason.

        • Issue is im with optus nbn for fetchtv :(

    • Valid point. May have been said dozens of times, but definitely worth commenting this info on the post.

  • +1

These come boxed as new. I recently bought one as a 3rd fetch box. It came with the original IR only remote control. I've had an email from fetch telling me this was a mistake. They are going to send me one of the new voice enabled, Bluetooth remotes. PS the remote will control your tv too.

    • +1

i got the email, yet to see the remote (not fussed though)
      .

    • It will control your TV provided it has HDMI-CEC functionality, which may not be the case on older & cheaper TV's.

      • +1

Not correct! Doesn't require HDMI-CEC functionality!

Fetch remotes operate as Universal IR Remote to control TV. (Old version of remote could be set up entering codes for TV brand.)

        Tested out of curiosity…
Disconnected HDMI cable (so no HDMI-CEC functionality).
Could turn TV on / off - pressing 123… key then Power on Fetch Remote.

Old remote didn't control TV, even by entering codes for TV.
New remote just arrived, so pleased it now controls my TV👍

Virtually all the local channels have own streaming services these days so these boxes make less sense. I guess broadcast quality can be better that what the stream, what else am I missing?

    • +1

Yeah not sure why we would need recordings anymore since most have streaming apps to watch on demand.

      • +3

Depends if you enjoy watching advertisements or prefer to be able to skip them.

    • +3

They also have "Live" streaming too now.

The "Tuner" is getting less and less important moving forward.

All you need is an Internet connection. Which means, you can place a TV set anywhere in the house and watch "Live TV". No more being limited to the spots in your house with an antenna outlet, or fussing around with splitters and dragging antenna cables around the house.

      • Can you give me some more info on live streaming? How do I do that? What app supports it? I would like a terrestrial TV-like experience via the internet.

        • Their individual catch-up/streaming apps now either show a Live TV row above all their content or there is a Live TV menu item.

You'll find that there are also extra channels not available via the normal tuner.

Something else to be aware of, is that there is also a small lag between the live stream and the antenna and at times the channels choose not to stream what's on the standard broadcast. I've read it's because of broadcasting tights, but who knows for sure, as most recent memory was something with the Tennis on channel 9, but when a lot of people complained they started streaming it. 🤷🏽‍♂️

      • +4

It was good when the FreeView app existed - all live channels in one app. Now you have to open separate apps because presumably each station can pimp their own content more.

      • I'd think the benefit of live TV via a digital tuner is the ease in switching between channels between ad breaks or out of boredom haha. Seems live TV means you need to open each app and have previously set up log in access

      • +2

All you need is an Internet connection. Which means, you can place a TV set anywhere in the house and watch "Live TV". No more being limited to the spots in your house with an antenna outlet, or fussing around with splitters and dragging antenna cables around the house.

The HDHomeRun devices solved this problem a decade ago - you plug it into one antenna socket, and it makes the TV streams available on your local network for viewing anywhere in your house.

        https://www.silicondust.com/product/hdhomerun-connect-duo/

        • Never heard of Homerun until now. Look like decent devices.

          • @Borg: Yeah they do their job perfectly.

Not quite as useful today though, now that channels all have their own streaming/catchup services…

        • +1

Similar, but I have an old HP thinclient running linux and an xbox usb tv tuner connected and run TVHeadend.
Can stream FTA to any device on my local network.

    • +16

I record stuff and skip through all the ads :P

      • +1

That is one advantage I guess. Streaming on catch-up - you get forced ads. Very annoying when the "algorithm" serves you 3x of the same ad in a row!

      • Good point!

    • +4

Some particular programs and events have licensing restrictions so cannot be broadcast live on terrestrial streaming services (mostly sports but some others as well like programs they license from the US) or are only available for a short period of time (e.g. Gogglebox is only available for 24 hours on 10play I believe). This is changing though and getting more available but I don’t think sports will change any time soon as most share broadcast rights with Foxtel.

      • +1

This is the main reason why I stick with Fetch - the same content in the same resolution is not always available on streaming. The fast forwarding ads and streaming apps are added bonuses.

    • On my new tv I have actually noticed the stream of Nine Now to be a better picture quality than the broadcast of Channel 9.

Actually chalk and cheese watching the football. Details in the grass.

Only frustration is not.being.able to channel surf in ad breaks.

    • Rage doesn't have catch-up as far as I'm aware. I need something to record the retro specials for a few hours on Monday nights (The Vault), and then the January/February retro special with Countdown/Rock Arena episodes etc…

However, I'm not sure if this is the best way to go about it or if I should look at something else.

    • +2

Just to take one example, iview technically can go up to 4500Kbps to stream 720p, but good luck ever getting that. I consider iview (and the others, which have similar "adaptive" data rates) as effectively SD, so I would rather watch a recorded broadcast that will be in HD, than a stream that will almost certainly be a lower resolution.

    • I wish FreeView put more effort to have a single streaming app on all devices with all FTA.

The only TV I experienced it on was too slow to run it properly.

  • +1

Bought recently @$99 - very happy with it.

"Refurbished" was new unit in sealed box.
They're cleaning out Gen3 stock, not the latest upgraded faster Gen4 model.

    • Isn't the $99 one from Fletch only the gen 2 model? or did you find a Gen 3 for $99

      • No. They're Gen3 Fetch Mighty M616T. (I discussed it in $99 Deal.)

Shown in Manage> Settings> Device Info
(HW Vers: M616T Build Date: 27/6/22)

Fetch emailed owners of very outdated Gen2 Mighty, offering them the Gen3 for $99. Then offered on Fetch site.

Comes with Voice Activated Remote. (Or will be sent if not included in box. - So 2 remotes for me, when it arrives.)

    • +3

      'That's so fetch'

      • If only this was posted in another 3 days

  • Hmm sounds similar to google TV/apple TV/amazon fire TV
both google and amazon are cheaper than 199 so why not buy them instead ??

    • +3

Not everyone has NBN with large or unlimited data allowance, so streaming is not practical for them. For instance, those on NBN satellite, and those (like me) who are stuck in areas the NBN doesn't service, so home 4G with horrible latency is the least-expensive internet available.

Plenty of "grey nomads" could use this in their campervans too.

    • +1

This has 1TB HDD to record and save TV

  • so what exactlly does these fetch boxes do? is it just a glorifed all in one streaming tv set top box?

    • Only real advantage over an Apple TV/Chromecast/fire tv/Shield is the ability to watch, and on the Mighty model, record, live tv via an antenna. Everything else is the same, if not worse (due to the much slower processor and sluggish OS), than these other boxes, when it comes to streaming. All of their boxes recently got support for Plex, which basically sealed the deal for me.

      • You can also suscribe to their IPTV packages and or MovieBox channel.

    • +7

If you like to watch Free-To-Air TV, but hate the Ads, these can be pretty handy.
Good example is say, The Amazing Race Australia…
Set the Fetch TV to record the show automatically. Then instead of sitting down to watch the show at 8:30pm when it starts, you hit play at 9pm (or whenever you're ready), and skip the Ads as they appear (it doesn't have auto Ad detection, but you skip 15seconds at a time and get the knack of how long an ad break is).
You end up catching up to the end of the episode just as it ends, and you've skipped the Ads.
That's just one example though. Not for everyone, but kinda handy for a few.

    • +1

Less capable streamer (sometimes waiting for apps to be supported)

More capable recorder (1tb HDD) and the ability to buffer live tv by default. Tea or pee breaks for example can be paused. Hear or see something something you want to see again you can rewind. Scheduled recordings and such as well.

Fetch as a service - you can buy access to a range channels packs on a no commitment basis.

    • ok well ill stick to using my PS5 and tvs digitial ch to watch tvs.

  • +1

Bought one of these a few months ago. If I didn't know, I'd swear it was brand new one. Absolutely flawless.

    • They're New, just getting rid of old model.

  • +1

Is this the new Fetch Mighty (Gen 4, 2022) or the old Fetch Mighty (Gen 3, 2016)?

    https://www.fetchtv.com.au/press-releases/fetch-unveils-new-…

Edit: From the Wifi specs, it looks to be the 6 year old model. :-(
Not great deal in that case.

    • +1

Gen 4 just released. Not sure what you are expecting at this price point?

      • It's only a $70 discount on what these refurbished boxes were going for in 2018.

Its outdated hardware, and therefore its usable life is not great in that respect.

  • Can you install Disney, Netflix, etc. on this?

  • Business must be good with the increased price of $100 compared to 10 days ago. Wasn't this the same but for $99.00 and were available for anyone to buy? Actually that was direct from FetchTV not JB

    • Yes. The JB Tax.

  • +3

Mighty was $100 cheaper direct from Fetch (including free express delivery) in 2 Deals this month. Bought then😊
    Surprised this Deal is popular.
    $99 delivered offer may return!

    • +1

hey mate, have you got the new remote ? I am still waiting for that

      • +1

        Only the email on 20/9
It should arrive sometime within the next few days. Still waiting.

Used the app as Voice Control Remote.

  • Can you install apps on it? or closed down proprietary OS?

    $99 FetchTV store
    https://store.fetchtv.com.au/collections/frontpage/products/…

Note: These are refurbished products with a 24 month warranty. Offer only available to existing Fetch Retail customers with a Gen 2 Fetch box.

    • +2

Ah so they have more. Oh and anyone can order and not just Gen2 owners.

    • Thanks

    • They're new (Gen3 same as this Deal), with free express delivery for $100 less than this Deal. Bought in $99 Deal.

As commented on earlier Deal, offer was sent to existing Gen2 users, by Fetch. But was sold to us.

  • Nice find OP

  • Sounds like a decent option to replace Toppy. 5th Topfield still goin, TV just went poof (was more pop…), so guessing not long now…
What's the activation charge for if just FTA ?
So 6 FTA record, and playback, with no lag ?
I assume multiple USB for multiple external HDD ? - OK no, hub support ? (TinyPC has 6 USB). 4th gen has no USB ?
HEVC support ? - OK yes
    Media level HDD ?
    Yes researching now.
    4 DVBT impressive

Seems like great deal at fetch thx @ken parker bought..
now what r the unexpected freebies @Rather be Travelling

  • Try this one instead https://store.fetchtv.com.au/collections/frontpage/products/… priced at $99
$99 deal was posted before at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/725744 but now has a new url has the characters -1 added to it

    • Is that the same model as the one here?

      • +1

        Yeap. "Gen 3".
The difference being JB want the extra $100 and no doubt Fetch Direct are happy to take a hit to clear the stock due to the newer Gen4 being the current new model.

  • Can you share your experience with using Fetchn please. I've seen some negative reviews on the box.

    • You dont want mine as it remains unplugged due to them running at a silly 16w 24/7. It was free so I plug it in for testing things.
Tests I did with it were good for most things. Biggest grip app wise is that there is no Kayo App, so I use Chromecast TV for 99% of things. Another thing I noticed with mine at least, was that it is fussy about arial signal strenght. If I split and share with a secondary device, it loses signal. Not an issue when I do this with other devices so unique to Fetch box.

What features are you looking for as they are good for most things.

      • Yes, had trouble with antenna signal strength (posted in a previous Fetch Deal). Unusual as never seen this in 15 years of using PVRs.
Given up using Antenna Out from Panasonic PVR connected to antenna. Now just fed directly to Fetch.

        • A known issue with Fetch boxes from what I read due to poor quality antenna receiver inside them. They don't make things like they used to! As noted, it is only an issue if you plan on splitting the antenna to share with another device.

    • Now that TiVo's gone, it's probably the most user-friendly PVR on the market. My grandma uses it just fine. Super reliable and just works, in my experience.

Has almost all of the catch-up/streaming services (missing Binge & Kayo). The remote is quite simple, and you can set it up to turn your TV on/off.

My parents really like the 30 movies a month and extra TV channels, though that only comes with an optional subscription.

If you don't need to record live TV, I'd get a shield or a chromecast.

Easier to buy a refurb PC with windows and all TV apps in full screen with a mouse or remote at this price…

    • If you read the comments & understand what this device is used for - you might think otherwise:

$99 direct from Fetch - link in comment & 2 recent Deals.
Although called "refurbished" - its new, in sealed carton. Just not latest model.
      2 year warranty & support.

Quad Tuner recorder with 1TB HDD, up to six simultaneous recordings, Wi-Fi Enabled, voice activated Bluetooth remote… In small unit suited to home entertainment use.

How is finding, & buying a used PC for less than $99,
Then buy & set up tuner cards to record up to 6 channels simultaneously of FTA (plus streamed content included in welcome package for $1 extra),
& add 1TB of storage just for recordings (not included in cheap PC cost)
      - "Easier" than this?
You must not value your time, effort, & frustration!

Or simply order a new $99 Fetch Mighty with free express delivery, from Fetch.
Then less than 10min to unpack, plug in, register account.
It works - no fuss or stress.
Very happy I did for $99!
