May be worth mentioning too, the family pack is a pretty good value cloud storage solution for the price. You get 1tb per user (so 6tb cloud storage in total for a year). The same through Google works out to around $450 per year I believe.

    • Can you use all 6TB for one user?

      • +4

No you can't. But if you use Microsoft's Flow, you can wrote automation to move stuff from one account to another. Thus always keeping new stuff in current account

        • +1

Any extra cost for the Microsoft Flow?

      • +4

Yes, but a little complex and limitations. Each of the 5 accounts goes into their OneDrive and shares a read\write folder with the primary user. For each of the folders shared, the primary user can then link\shortcut, so the primary users onedrive (web and client) can directly access each of the 5 additional folders.

My NAS has OneDrive backup, so I just divided the backup up so the target is across multiple folders.
Lot's of people claim OneDrive is not a backup, that's rubbish it has ransomeware protection and any offsite copy of data is a backup.

The Personal Vault, is also such an under-rated feature.

        • +1

Lot's of people claim OneDrive is not a backup, that's rubbish

Yep, although the same people are self proclaimed experts, whose actual knowledge is inversely proportional to what they believe it is.

The Personal Vault, is also such an under-rated feature.

Hallelujah brother! If only Optus.were part of the converted ;-) But seriously, you're right, I'm not sure why some many overlook it.

        • what nas are you using? thanks

          • @BatsRule: Really old Netgear ReadyNas… just won't die. I allow outbound out via a WebProxy with SSL inspection.
Firmware updates are still coming out, and also manually updating the Debian OS patches.

            • @UltimateAI: I must give it a go….I have a few Netgear Nas's floating around and use an older Pro4 for day to day stuff. Not sure the older OS supports one drive but will check.

        • +1

Lot's of people claim OneDrive is not a backup,

I think what they really claim is that OneDrive shouldn't be your only backup.

Keep a 6TB USB drive on hand too, so you can take a full copy every so often that you can store offline in a safe place.

    • This, I moved from iDrive to OneDrive (Workplace discount program) as it was cheaper and came with the additional O365 features.
You get free ransomware protection, Personal vault and O365 apps.
Had to create 5 additional accounts and share their onedrives (r\w) with the primary, so the primary account can access the entire 6 TiB.
OneDrive client is also a good option to backup photo's \ movies from mobile phones (iOS and Android) to avoid playing for iCloud.

    • so are we able to share with our wider family ? parents and siblings who dont live in the same address ?

May be not suitable for a new post due to price beat but I have done price beat at officeworks before using price from saveonit

    • They price match online stores too? I thought it had to be a physical store.

      • I have done it. It’s a digital license key. They do price match amazon where the product is sold by Amazon.

        • Yea they always price match Amazon but usually not other online stores

          • @Zackeroo: No, they Price Beat other stores, including online stores (but need to see the full delivered price).

            https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-be…

            What about online stores?
Our Price Beat Guarantee includes products you find online - as long as the item is identical and in stock. When assessing the PBG from online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery to your location (if any). If the identical, in stock product can be purchased and delivered to your location via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%.

            • @M00Cow: Wow that's excellent. Maybe I'm mixing up with JBs policy then. Thanks

    • If it’s in store at Officeworks taking a card off the shelf, should be denied for a price match/price beat.

      SaveOnIt is a digital download.

    • OW price matched for me. Took 10 mins over the phone so not quick.

    • Officeworks store refused to price match over the weekend for me, I waited until today and gave them a call on the 1300 number.

They price matched for me without any issue.

  • Is it legit?

    • +3

Yep, purchased from them before as have many other. See the referenced previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/701942

    • +1

Yes. I have purchased ms office from them once and always get kaspersky total security from them. The keys always worked

    • +1

Yep absolutely, I've bought MS stuff off them for a few years now

    • I've bought plenty of these from this store, it's legitimate.
I will be grabbing another to stack now.:)

  • +3

    FYI:
I bought personal by mistake (my current subscription is family). When I entered the key, MS website gave me an option to change it to 9 months family subscription)

    • +7

In a previous deal, someone mentioned you can stack personal subscriptions up to 4 years then use a family subscription to get 5 years of family.

  • $99.96 with the 2% credit card surcharge. Still worth it as you get the buyer protection that a bank transfer doesn't give you (weirdly bank transfer is their preferred payment method, which is a bit of a red flag)

    • +2

I've bought from them for many years using bank transfer. Never a problem

  • +10

PSA, if you're like me and don't like paying an annual subscription, Office 2021 is the latest (seemingly identical) version you can get that doesn't require ongoing payments.

    • +2

Didn't even realise that 2021 got released. Thanks Cap!

    • Yep what I did

    • +5

yeah but mostly people choose subscription version for multiple devices login and 1TB of OneDrive storage per user

      • Yeah if you want cloud storage, it's a cheap option. Eg Dropbox is 2GB for $19/mo for one user

        • +1

If you choose family and share with your members it’s $20/year or less for 1000 GB.
Don’t think anything could be cheaper than this!

Edit: I read it again, and yes, I think you meant this deal is cheaper than buying cloud storage from Dropbox.
I didn’t neg you btw, have +1 from my side
          Cheers

          • @Smokey010: It's 1000 GB per user, so 6000 GB in total. Each user can share their onedrive r\w with the primary user so I account can access the entire 6 TiB if required (caveat need to spread you data across the 6 folders)

    • Could have changed by now, but when I tried Excel 2021 it did not have stock quotes which was a deal breaker for me.

    • +1

Can u please share this link?

      • +1

They hide it because obviously they want to steer you towards paying annually. It's down to the right.

        https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/buy/compare-al…

I bought mine on a key site for about $15. Given MS made US$20billion+ in profit last year I'm not going to lose sleep over that.

        • +1

thank you! any chance u can DM me the site you bought it from?

  • +7

if you work for an organisation that uses Microsoft you may be able to access it cheaper through the home use program. Family is $90 and personal is more expensive at $69.30 but discount is all year.

    • +2

There's the link to check if anyone needs it, I got really excited only to find out mine doesn't

      https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/workplace-discount-program

    • They got rid of the offers to buy the one-off products in favour of 365 a few years ago, which was a shame.

You used to be able to get a copy of the latest Office for $15 through this program.

      • Yep, gone. They are really pushing the subscription model. Better to buy a one of code for Office21 online for each device you want it on.

      • yeah, those licenses are perpetual so if you can find the old receipts you can download again

    • can you buy multiple subscriptions at one time and then stack them up up to 4-5 years like some posters mentioned ?

      • Yes, I've been doing it.

        • Did u buy on saveonit or through Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/workplace-discount-program ?

          • +1

@OzFrugie: I got officeworks(as its cheaper than via the work place discount program with an additional 5% price beat) to price match it with SaveOnIt via their 1300 OFFICE number.

I had issue with them price matching at the store level so I ended price matching it by calling their customer service above.

            • @yolow: How's that possible? OW 5% price beat costs $93.10. Workplace discount costs $90.30.

              • @Buy2Much: I was referring to the personal plan where officeworks price match it for $64.60. Work place discount is at $69.30.

  • +1

Doesn't everyone's workplace provide this for free?

    • Finally some decent work benefits for McDonald’s employees

      • why you little!!!

    • Libre office

    • Yes, if you just want access to the W365 applications (word, excel, powerpoint ect,,,)
For cloud storage, not a good idea as your work will have access to your OneDrive data, even after you leave. Some organisations have permanent retention and they don't require your permission to access.
Best to keep church and state separate,

      • Can they access my one drive data even after i delete it??

        • +1

          Yes ofcourse.
When you delete they go into the first stage recycle bin.
When the recycle bin is cleared, the files go into the second stage recycle bin (you can't access this only administrators can)
By default they will be in the second stage recycle bin for 93days, unless your organization has enabled permanent retention, eg: litigation hold. Then nothing is actually deleted.
You could ofcourse encrypt the data with your own key, then they would not be able to access the data.

          • @UltimateAI: Not an issue for me, i only store work data in my one drive anyway

          • +1

@UltimateAI: Is this right? The Microsoft webpage seems to suggest that the personal/family packages are separated from the organisations. Therefore the admins shouldn't be able to access the user's personal/family cloud storage. The user is essentially only using the work licensing policy to gain the benefits of the discount but have their own access, etc.
I believe Administrators only have access to the Business One Drive accounts.

            • +2

@able: There's a bit of confusion going on here - many workplaces provide o365 for business, with a business login (your work address). This is separate from the Microsoft offer where you can purchase a discounted o365 personal/family subscription because of the volume license that your employer has.

The first situation is what the OP referred to with data retention.

            • +1

@able: The work and personal packages are completely separate. Providing you sign in to your family licence with a none work email address, your workplace doesn't have any access or visibility.

The user is essentially only using the work licensing policy to gain the benefits of the discount but have their own access, etc.

              Correct.

SpamMeNotInOz is referring to just logging in on your home machine with your work account - using your work licence. Don't do this.

    • +1

Doesn't everyone's workplace provide this for free?

      Mine does. :)
But as it's my own company, I guess I also have to pay for it too! :(

Does anyone know trustworthy sites for ms office product key download at low price?

    • +1

This isn't the warez site you're looking for.

      Move along.

    • -2

Google is your friend for all that free crap

    • eBay $5 to $10 but only phone activation.

I don't know how it works but they claim they get the key from old recycled machines

      • In reality they are nearly always reselling msdn or enterprise keys. It will probably work but your license isn't valid/legit.

        • Question. Any idea why only phone activation work?
My question is that phone or online they all go to the activation sever / database and why does only one method work

          • +1

@utsc: Can be a range of reasons, too many activations, also some keys used to ship blocked by default to avoid them being stolen from machines in stores and a phone activation was the only way to override that.

    • +2

      yep saveonit.com.au

    • Does anyone know trustworthy sites for ms office product key download at low price?

That's exactly what this deal is 🤷‍♂️

  • 89$ at Bing lee

    • +1

For the personal version, this is still cheaper at $68 for the personal version

      https://www.binglee.com.au/products/m365-personal-xtime-15m-…

      • -1

The difference being: the Personal version is for a single user where as the Family subscription one can invite 5 others. Each invited person (like the personal edition) can install on an unlimited number of devices but can only sign in on 5 concurrently, which is also handy.

  • Come on Ozbargainers, please find some Argentina/Turkey/india/somewhere VPN purchase of this

    • +2

It’s like $5 and some change a month for a great product and storage … I’m sure you can make it work.

  • +2

For past year and half, I have been using a downloaded copy from my University account where I graduated 7 years ago. If any of you are alumnus of a Uni, it is worth checking if your account is still active and see what benefits you get out it.

    • You self qualify for ozbargain medal

  • I thought Microsoft Office would be struggling to survive in an open-source world by now, but it seems like that may be for some time in the future, judging by the interest here.

    • +4

They are absolutely thriving in the business world. They aren’t going anywhere.

    • What the hell is open source world

    • +2

Open source does not provide 6TB cloud storage 🙂

    • +2

Where's the open source cloud storage you speak of

    • Stranger still, every organisation I’ve worked for pays for office, and disables all the features that make it worth paying for - such as cloud.

It’s always ‘oh no, cloud storage is a security risk’…

What’s left behind once they turn everything off, is libre office.

      • Sharepoint alone is worth the investment for small to large scale businesses.

  • +1

Despite being the lowest price currently available, the Family subscription for $98 and Personal for $68 are SaveOnIt's standard prices.

    • Is this true? I almost went to stack on another year to my existing sub but will wait if this is their usual price. Thanks!

      • +1

Yes, it has been sitting at $98 for the past year (or may be even two).

  • +2

I'm paying $52.80 a year for 200gb Google Drive storage.

Time to transition over to Onedrive I guess.

  • Seem like g2a.com is selling it cheaper and even have the perpetual license of Office 2021.

    Is g2a.com trustworthy?

    • No. G2a is just a market place. All u get is resold or stolen keys from dodgy sellers

  • Hi all, just setting up my daughter's laptop and she's going to need Microsoft student? Next year for school and they're going to charge $100 from memory, is there going to be much difference if I get this personal version? Also can I purchase then activate it next year??

    • +3

If you work for an organization that partners with Microsoft you should be able to get a 30% discount
      https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/workplace-discount-program

      • Yep try the workplace discount program first. Should be $90.30 for Family, set up as recurring subscription which should keep that price in case you move on to another workplace without the discount.

        • Is the default a recurring subscription?
