For something that's usually $100 and has been as high as $120 at Ebgames this is bargain
I've seen it for $79 but at $68 it's the lowest price I've ever seen it. Amazon is matching the original deal at toys r us so get it from Amazon to keep the deal running for others. You can also get free shipping if you are an Amazon prime member.
Toys r us shipping starts from $8.95
There are some other Pokemon tcg deals on toys r us but this was the best one

Careful with amazon. I bought a few ETBs that were sold and shipped by Amazon. Received both minus the booster packs.

    • How can you tell without opening?
      Weigh?

      • You don't. I took a punt thinking it'll be safe as it was 'sold and shipped by amazon'. When i received the package, there was no shrink wrap on wither package so it was a dead giveaway that something was amiss.

        • I'll give it a gamble, did they refund you?

        • Did you get the refund easily?

Wish I read your comment, just made a similar purchase this morning that's also sold and shipped by Amazon AU.

@silverrat23: Yeah it was pretty straightforward. basically just told them i received an unsealed product with stuff missing and they issued a refund no questions. Also ask for an inconvenience credit. i got $5 which which was better than nothing

I have heard that Amazon does not really have a great way to detect imitation/tampered products because they stock all the SKU of an item together once they accept or recieve them. This way real and fake items get mixed up at their warehouse and there is no easy way to really tell if the supplier caused the issue or the customer. Some suppliers even purposely have a percentage of fake items mixed with originals because it helps with their margins. Not sure how much of any of this is actually true but I have read anecdotal similar reports of this happening in other countries as well.

    • Ask for refund

A lot of people take advantage of Amazon's excellent refund policy and remove cards claiming they were opened. If your box is sealed/shrink wrapped, you're fine. Most reviewers claiming packs are missing or resealed are likely people trying to scam Amazon.

For those wondering, ETB = Elite Trainer Box

My son is interested in Pokémon cards and trading etc. What should I start with? It’s all so confusing

Depending on what Pokemon they are in to, this could be a good, cheap entry: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/pokemon-battle-academy-trad…

Comes with three full sets (electric, psychic and fire) will instructions, etc.

      • Thank you

      • +2

        Will instructions?

This isn't Yu-Gi-Oh where you're at risk of being sent to the shadow realm for all eternity if you lose

      • Yep these are perfect to learn the card game. Teaches the kids strategy and to think ahead in the game.

Buy a bunch 2nd hand on eBay. If he decides he likes it he will figure out which additional sets to buy.

For younger players, the box tomsco recommended is probably a good bet.

If they're a bit older and already know how to play, I'd recommend the Brilliant Stars Build & Battle Stadium, currently on sale at Mr Toys for roughly half what you'd pay elsewhere: https://www.mrtoys.com.au/sales-event/mega-sale-top-specials…
They also have the Fusion Strike Build & Battle Stadiums at the same price. Brilliant Stars is a newer set though, and the Build & Battle boxes were updated from this set to include additional energy cards to be ready-to-play decks, so it's probably the better pick.

      • Thanks. My son’s eight. Knows about Pokémon but I don’t know how much. I’ll start with the Kmart set and let him guide me on what to get next.

20 years ago my stupid old man threw out my pokemon card collection, including my holographic edition 1 charizard. Telling me to focus on school. I told him that there is a special place in hell for people like him.

  • Just wondering. Are there any pokemon gurus out there that would be able to assist me in working out the value of some sets I have from back in the old days ?
I have a complete set of base set 2 booster packs untouched and in original packaging.
Never opened and stored for years
I've no idea what they may be worth as I see none on eBay etc.
    Sorry for sidetracking the thread.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

You're looking at anywhere from $250 - $400 per pack, see here: https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=pokemon+ba…

Possibly could ask more as a full set.

      • Thank you. Much appreciated.
        Nice little earner 🖐️
Glad I hung on to them.

See prices on tcgplayer.com for a rough guide for $US prices

Also great collection, I'd see also if people are willing to pay more for pack art sets ie the complete set of the different pack designs for your base 2 set

        Thank you for your input.
        I appreciate it very much.

My Amazon cards have always been sealed. Got some nice pulls from this ETB. The worst pulls were from those Fusion Strike ETBs they have for $50 but could just be that set.

This is good price too if U can risk for possibly unsealed box

    • Reviews say it's dodgy fakes so buyer beware

  • Arrived today, wrapped in plastic. As it's a gift, I won't open it up to see if the card packs are all in there. Thanks OP
