Thx op. Have one, just need other one for kids room. Perfect

    • Thoughts on how is it? Does the light get dim when the lights a turned off? i want to get it for my kids room as well. It has a Nest Mini at the moment.

      • It does dim - hard to explain. The numbers go funny, but then if it detects movement, the numbers display correctly again.

But overall you are happy with it, right?

@ozone141: Yep - I like them. I have 2, one in my office, one in my kids room. I like the size / form factor / display. I hardly use the google alexa / smart functionality, other than setting an alarm or timer. More about having a nice clock display for me. The kids will occasionally use it for Spotify in their room. Its great for the price.

            • @richie80: Do you know if the clock fails to run alarms when your internet goes down? That's a problem I have with my 3 year old Lenovo Smart Clock.

        • @richie80 I've seen negative reviews on this because the 'dimmed' state is still bright. Does it actually turn off as this is the key yes-no for me.

@cameronthom: on the "Lenovo Smart Clock Essential" it goes dim… it does not turn off.

          • +2

@cameronthom: You can set it to turn off overnight, i have mine set from 10pm-7am and it goes completely black during these times, it is a little bit confusing to do though

          • +2

@cameronthom: You can turn it off completely with voice command.

            "Turn off the display".

You can also "Set display brightness to 1%".

You can set it up as a routine using the Google Home app.

        • that may be on the essential clock 2, on the essential clock 1 I do not have the numbers go funny, they just dim.

      • Yes, the light goes dim on the essential clock (not essential clock 2).

      • +2

I just use a hotword to dim it. routine

        • Does it gave clock face that shows date and month

      • During setup (and after in the Home app) you get the option to set things like display brightness at night.

  • The night light feature is actually pretty bright but other than that it’s a nice little unit

  • +1

I can answer questions about "Lenovo Smart Clock Essential" as long it is not about the Alexa one, mine is with Google.

Because I see questions about the dimming, I do not find it a problem and it is quite close to my face. But I do have a high tolerance to light. YMMV.

Soooo, how's the Alexa functionality on this clock?

      • +9

        missing

    • Does it have a clock face that shows date and month

    • Does it have date and month?

A hack to reduce the brightness issue!

Looks like it's straight from the factory .

    • Seamless

    • Some windshield tinting may work too and it will certainly look better than that.

We have this and regret it. The mics are terrible - barely recognises more than one in four Hey Google commands, whereas our Google Homes have an at least 80% hit rate.

  • I like having a digital LED clock which adjusts automatically for DST and can show weather icons.

It's actually nice not having another screen next to my bed.

Ok Google is pretty hit and miss, and the alarm clock controls are clumsy on the phone. AFAIK there's no decent UI app on the iOS app to control alarms though.

    • "OK Google, set an alarm for every weekday at 6am"

      • I like to be able to adjust them or skip individual days if I happen to wake up early without having to rely on voice and waking up the wife.

  • Anyone know how many watts the clock charges at on the regular and wireless charging?

    • +1

So the smart clock 2 with wireless charger is shit slow at wireless charging. I don’t know the wattage, but it's a good thing your phone is sat there overnight. Cue discussion on slow/fast charging being best. The usb socket is also not dishing out too much power. Suits me. Might snap another one up.

      • per Lenovo site

        "Wireless Charger
        5W

        7.5W

        10W

        Fast-charging"

I'll assume "fast charging" is 15w, but that's an assumption.

  • Can you use this as a regular clock? Or will it do nothing without an internet connection?

    • Once set up you could turn the mic off and just have it as a clock and usb outlet with ability to play audio to it, have the nightlight on, set alarms, show weather temp. But you do need internet and app go set it up

    • you cannot set the time for the essential clock (the simple version), it needs an internet connection.

  • The speakers on this are beyond terrible. Think $40 servo burner phone on speaker mode.

    • +1

How does the speaker quality compare to the home mini?

      • Home mini miles ahead.

I got this to replace the home-mini in my sons room. We ended up keeping the mini aswell for music / audiobooks / podcast.

        • Thanks. I might give it a go as I want a clock in the kitchen as well as Google assistant. Don’t need music quality - so long as I can clearly hear responses to questions.

    • Does it have date and month?

  • Any of these clocks shows date and month?

    • Picked up the Lenovo Smart Clock Essential google version today. Display shows week day: 'Wed'

Hands free mode will give you day and month. As in "Hey Google - what's the date today?"
