Nikon D5100 with 18-55mm Lens $585 (or $476 Body Only) RRP $850 ($12.50 Shipping or Pickup in GC)

140

This is a great camera. There have been a number of deals posted for this lately. Kogan does it for $648 shipped but this is over $60 less.

Yes, this IS a grey import BUT it comes with a 1 year warranty. Additional wary can be added onto of the 1 year at rarely reasonable prices. Also for those like me who can't wait for something to be shipped, this is available for pickup in the gold coast.

Anyways, I have been shopping for these things for about a month and this is the best deal I have seen so far, including prices in the US. While it doesn't come with the Nikon 2 year warranty, it does come with one year and addition warranty can be added. These warranties seem to cover the exact same stuff, and the service is done only at Nikon approved service centres.

I will pick up in the morning and update this if I run into any troubles.

edit: I should add, that if you sign up for their news letter you can get an additional $5 off.

edit: I should also add that these guys have fairly reasonable phone service. You can ask about GST if you don't believe me, and if you have any other questions they usually answer within a few rings. I will be driving down in a couple hrs to get my camera so hopefully this all goes well :)

  • I just signed up for news letter, how can I get $5 off?

    • When I did it I got an email a few hours later with the coupon code.

  • Do they have an ABN? Wanting to claim this on the trs.

    • yes they did, they are actully a retail store, and I bought 3 SB-900 Flashs for $1000 a month ago

    • Man, this deal would be so sweet for me if I could have gotten it in another 14 days. I am going to the US 1st of august which would have reduced the camera with lens to like $530! O well, i hope they sell out, b/c if I see this deal after the 1st of July I will be so pissed :)

      • Only an extra 10% after an already 50% discount, you did alright anyway :)

    • It's a gray import. No GST, no TRS.

      • hmm banner says otherwise, http://www.camerasdirect.com.au/media/wysiwyg/Banner_3_1.jpg but i will contact them to check on invoices etc.

still waiting on that $5 voucher :P

      • While it is an import, it is more of a parallel import than a grey import (at least as they explained it to me)

Anyways, the bottom line is that they sell it from their store from in australia, it ships from australia, the do charge GST (I would upload my recipe but don't feel like dealing like it right now) and they do offer a warentty nearly identical to the manufactured warranty but it only lasts 1yr (although you can extend it).

Anyways, I understand the desire to buy from Nikon aus, but for those of us who can't afford it, this seems like the next best bet :)

  • Just called up and spoke to a bloke on the phone, seemed helpful, these as day said seem like a parallel import. But for the money and the fact they are a Australian registered business warranty shouldn't be too much of an issue, and if it does we have a lot more help from ACCC/etc giving them the nudge along than a once off ebay seller.

Ordered the body only after picking up two of the older non VR lenses cheap on gumtree. Looking forward to learning me some DSLR ;)

    • Update to mine, mega negative. Wont allow you to pay with a family members credit card. Pretty useless for anyone who doesn't have a credit card.

      • Ummmm thats the same with any card, instore or online…
        Maybe get a debit card?

I got the d5100 with a bag. Just got the tax invoice :D

  • the price is tempting but i decided to wait for the D600

  • Anyone elses feel really cheap?

    • :o don't say that! Now I'm paranoid :s

But, is the shell supposed to be textured plastic or smooth? This is my first dslr and it's the only thing ive noticed. Why do you say that?
