  • that is a good price

Damn! Finally pulled the trigger on two of these last week for ~$60 more from Mwave! Can confirm this is a good deal based on the feeling of salt in my wounds haha!

  • Cheap

  • Well that's a bit annoying. Just purchased one for $270 from umart. Oh well.

This is an exceptionally good price.

  • Need 10TB to fill the 4th slot of my NAS

  • -2

    Shame it's on fleabay

  • I wish it's WD drive…

  • +1

I bought two of these a while back, and had to return it back as both HDDs were making an unusual noise when it was reading. Recon it's worth giving this another go?

    • +3

can confirm iron wolf drives are noisy…. maybe consider buying WD RED

      • I actually got 2 X 4TBs which are not that noisy. I was assuming it might be cause of the higher RPMs on the 8TBs that makes it noisy? I'll try WD red when they put out a good deal

        • I have 1x8 TB in my desktop & 2x4 TB in my Synology NAS! Both make similar noise when data is being accessed off the drives

        • you want to get the "wd red plus" version as the "red" is infamously smr based.

    • Mine from Mwave seemed unusually noisy (wasn't a continuous sound, mainly booting up) and completely failed after 2 years.

  • I bought 10TB WD Red Plus from Umart back in September for ~$2/TB… I think I'd prefer them for the dollars.

    • +1

You mean $20 per TB ?

      • Even that's not believable. I paid $326.6 Oct'21 when the AUD had better exchange rate.
        Cheapest Apr'21 WD-Elements 10TB @ 215.6

      • Sorry, I meant for $2/TB more than this deal

  • Thanks, bought 2. :)

    Came to $473.44 with eBay Plus, - $50 GC = $423.44 / 16TB = $26.50 / TB which seems decent.

    • Just wondering where the $50 GC comes from?

      • Found it, no worries, thanks for sharing

    • +1

      Thanks OP
@themadman, same bought 2, by using some left over ebay giftcard that i bought last year with and some swapped from the recent Choice giftcard purchase via CR so work out to be less $23.50/TB.

  • Thanks! Been waiting for these to go under 250 per drive… Bought 2 to finish my NAS (4 bay with 2*8tb ironwolfs. Think I paid closer to 400 for each back early 2020. 1.5tb left still but can't pass up a good deal!)

Just hope computer alliance packs hard drives well!

    • to be honest, the packing is very minimal, just bubble wrap, in a small box, if the box is being throw here and there,

      I can't image rest,

figure accrossed, I am still waiting for DS920+, hope all works

      • Hmm concerning. I wasn't home for delivery today so will have to wait til Monday to find out (at the local PO but not open Saturdays)

      • Same as tedd, mine arrived yesterday too, the box has one corner deformed/flatten, and the 2 drives were wrapped in just bubble wrap so I believe the box may have been thrown here and there hence 1 corner is flatten. Should I be worrying about the drive being damaged???
aren’t the drive supposed to be in their retail box? (Or internal drive always came in wrapping? My first set of NAS hdd, all my drives were shucked from external drive).

  • Does computer alliance issue a separate invoice just to be sure to get the gift card?

    • From memory you get a paper invoice in the box.

      • +1

yes confirm, i received today already, there is a paper formal invoice in the box

  • Hmm this now or wait for Black Friday for the 18TB deal again… I got the prime day deal for $380 and think I’ll have to hold out for that to hopefully buy another at that price and use it with parity in my unraid server.

  • With the US dollar at it's strongest level and AUD at a low, won't the deal be shit anyway?

  • got a ds920+ box last month. any recommendation on how may disc that I need for local security camera storage and home photostorage?

  • I'm assuming I am doing something wrong, even with the coupon applied it works out to be $254.32 with ebay Plus. Any advice?

  • +3

Price has been bumped up… now $260 with the 10% coupon ($289 without). -_-
Guess I shouldn't have waited while looking at nas box stuff.. guess I'll wait for another sub 250 deal.

  • +2

Got in just under the wire.

Amazing that Computer Alliance has someone online this late just to jack up anything that actually becomes a good deal with promo codes that they missed.

  • wish they would put the 26tb on special for once….

    • When did they get to 26tb?

      • june/july this year i need it for my nas!

They already have a 50tb and 100tb drive but cost alot!

        • Where? I only see "announcements" of future HAMR tech they're working on, nothing concrete yet..

          • @BargainKen: theres a 22tb and 26tb available - 26tb ultrastar dc hc670 google it, youll find it

            • @Mario g: Right I was looking for Seagate products, the WD 26TB drive is SMR so might not be ideal for NAS purposes.

              • @BargainKen: ok the WD Ultrastar HC560 20TB is meant for the NAS - SMR hard drives are a good choice if they are primarily used for data storage or PCs where large hard drives are used to store data.

                • @Mario g: Yes I have a few 8TB SMR drives, they become quite painful to use as the drive fills up

  • $289.00 now $260 with code

Was just about to pay when "A seller made some changes to an item listing"

They are the ones who lose out, was also buying a case for the HDD.
