    • Doubt it

  • Hmm I am confused, do we have to add a mobile plan to preorder? It doesn't seem to let me pre order without a phone plan. Also does it locked to Telstra?

    • It seems that if I want to pay of in instalments I will have to add a plan. Paying outright doesn't, however it still unclear if network is locked or not.

      • Should be unlocked

        • thx 4 replying

      • +2

Phones haven't been network locked for years

        • I heard a Vodafone rep tell a customer today their phones were locked and to buy a new phone in Thailand (he was headed there on holiday I believe)

  • This looks like a pretty good pre-order bonus. No apparent offer for the Pixel 7 non-Pro though - I see through the google store you get $250 store credit for the P7, and $300 for the P7 Pro

    • +1

Replying back since I cant edit, but the 7 non-Pro is actually $100 off via telstra as the pre-order bonus. Not as good value as the pre-order bonus on the Pro model

  • Upgraded to pixel 6 from mi note 10 and I was so disappointed with camera performance. It didn't feel like an upgrade for most part. It

  • The only time I would advise anyone getting an iPhone over any android is when they need alot of battery, talking about 8+ hours of SOT, the P6P isn't bad doing 7+ hours recently is MWTB tests

  • Anyone having issues logging onto the telstra my account? Tried different browsers and on phone - same issue

  • Do they do Trade-In deals for these new phones?

    • +1

Yep, if you scroll a little further down on the Telstra page you can get a rough figure for a trade-in. Keep in mind they will offer you well below used value even for a relatively new phone, you're better off trying to sell it privately first.

      • +1

Thanks for the heads up Shak, I will check it out. Though you do get to avoid all the low-ballers or scam's that come your way selling private. Cheers mate

        • Very true mate, i myself have used their Trade-in and also JB's service, and they're both really easy to use thankfully. If you're happy with the price id say go for it. If you're trading in somerthing like an iPhone, id suggest giving FB Marketplace and Gumtree a look because a lot of people are looking to buy iP13 models right now.

  • Do we know if the pixel stand included is 1st gen or 2nd gen?

    • +2

It's the second gen model, its in all their pics on their website; and i'd be surprised if they even had any first gen models laying around, they sold really poorly. The second gen looks worse IMO, but has the fan so arguably should work better for phones that take more juice than the Pixel 6/7 range.

  • "You must receive your Pixel 7 Pro before attempting to redeem your bonus bundle."

Then you have till the 13th of November apparently.

HHmm. Certainly hope they ship on time then otherwise this whole thing becomes a mess!

  • I'm still running a Pixel 2XL strong, but I feel I'll need an upgrade soon.

I'll definitely be looking for the best deal on this!

Just seems easier to stick with Pixel, than switch to Samsung?

  • +1

Not touching this. Still got Pixel 5 with unlimited HQ photos. Pixel is not really a Pixel if you need to pay for storage

    • I've never used storage, I mean I got 20TB in hard drives laying around.

But it's insane I'm looking at laptop deals for the same price as a phone!

      • It has been like that for long time

      • Yes but it's not about your local storage it's cloud storage. In this case pixel 5 and before gives unlimited storage on HQ photos. The only reason why I keep my pixel 5

I can't be bothered paying for Google photos

        • Yea im semi in the same boat with the P5. Have Google Displays around the house with photo frame on.
Parents with Samsung phones are nearing 15GB Google photo storage so going to dread helping out with cleaning their storage up.

Upgrading P5 to P7 Pro for my partner and will see how it goes before i consider the upgrade

    • +1

Thats honestly the main reason i went back to my Pixel 5 from a 6a. I think Google have forgotten (on purpose) how big a deal they made about not having expandable storage and such small storage options. The free HQ backup was, and still is a huge reason i'll stick to Pixel's until Google start making some really Apple like anti-consumer moves. Also the fact that feel in hand really is hugely different between the two phones, metal vs plastic really does make me 'like' one phone better than the other even though software wise theyre identical.

  • Can I order only the phone without plan with Telstra?

    • +1

Possibly if you do it outright (although not 100% sure). However, If you want to pay it off in instalments, you need a plan as well.

      • yes buy outright.

  • looks like a very good deal until it had telstra across it. Twice I ordered a speaker and they could not even deliver it :)
For the head ache of dealing with the shit customer service I instead have bought from google direct. 10% off plus $300 store credit.

Never followed a flagship release before. When will reviewers start getting copies of this?

    • +1

They’ve already got them and done their reviews, but they aren’t allowed to post them until the day the phone releases.

If you think that seems sus it’s because it generally is. It’s generally taken as they are expecting some bad/not glowing reviews so they don’t want them to be able to be released before it goes on sale as they would harm sales. The pixel 6 did this, and we quickly found out that was why.

      • It's not suss at all. Its an extremely common practice for any and all tech products to be under embargo until a certain date. The logic behind it is to give all outlets no matter how big or small a chance to get the markets attention at the same time. It's the same with car reviews, and most products that are handed out to a 'reviewer'. Admittedly the Pixel 6 launch was an ongoing disaster, but Google were promoting that phone hard, they weren't trying to hide.

A lot of the bigger Youtube reviewers have already posted their hands-on first thoughts for the Pixel 7 range, and its looking like the phone we all expected. New chip, new-ish designs, basically identical software and a few neat Google AI tricks, Smaller battery (P7), newer better camera setup (P7pro). Overall no-one seems overly impressed, but no-one seems to be overly annoyed by the phone either.

        • Its an extremely common practice for any and all tech products to be under embargo until a certain dat

Absolutely. What isn't extremely common is for the embargo date to only be lifted after the device has released and then have the product have glowing reviews. Most of the time when that is the case it's because the product has big problems, like the Pixel 6.

The most recent iphone release, the iPhone 14 Plus, had its review embargo ending 2 days before the phone released, for example. The iPhone 14/14 Pro/14 Pro Max had their review embargo end 2 days before release as well. This shows confidence in their product. Waiting until people have already bought your phones before allowing reviews to be posted shows the opposite.

  • In the USA, they get up to $750 trade-in $200 Store credit.

  • Anyone who has pre-ordered gotten an ETA on shipment? I see that Google has began notifying about shipment on the Whirlpool forums. I've never done a pre-order before with Telstra, so unsure what to expect. However, I've read a few horror stories from previous pre-orders (including iPhones)

  • I'm trying to pre-order outright through an existing account and it wants me to verify all my identity details for a credit check etc. Annoying and frustrating, as I am buying outright!

  • Tried to order - didn't like my business account.

Set up personal account - verified my driver's license etc (why the %$# is this needed for an outright purchase???) but crashed when going past that on different browsers and computers.

Had to go in to the store yesterday. Paid my money and apparently it's all sorted.

There were 427 Obsidian 512Gb Pixel Pro 7's left for sale by Telstra yesterday and she said they're basically waiting in a warehouse and will ship on the 13th. Seemed pretty convinced these are coming fast when they come.

    UPDATE FYI

Just got the shipping notice. Apparently set to arrive tomorrow.

Look, I'll believe it when I see it for sure but anyway just FYI.

  • Ordering one outright online doesnt work.

I go into a store and i need to make an appointment and come back in 45 minutes.

Can you just take my fricking money already. How hard is it to make a simple transaction!

    • Aha - not just me then! "Oops - something went trong - try again later", or words to that effect?

I had to go to store to get it done also.

      • Not only did they make me wait 45 minutes for an appointment, they then told me the system is down. What a joke.

        • +1

Even better - I made an appointment and STILL had to wait in line (but only 10 minutes).

To be fair though their rep was very friendly and helpful getting it all done. Armadale WA.

No further updates yet - order still shows in progress at mytelstra.

          • +1

@Ramrunner: Nice! I was at Innaloo WA.

I ended up ordering via chat. Got passed over once, but otherwise reasonably seamless. Let's hope we get it today!

            • @TheZohan: My order had an update this morning:

  • For anyone subscribed, don't forget to redeem this! I submitted just now and it was approved instantly. I purchased on 7/10. Items will ship within 45 days.

    • Thanks! Need to wait for my phone to arrive though, right, for the IEMI number?

      • +2

Yes, you need an invoice - I had to request mine from Telstra chat and also IMEI 1 number. When doing the claim, Google will show you 2 ways of finding it

    • Same, got approved within minutes

      • Hopefully the items ship sooner. 🤞

    • How though? It says in the T&Cs "You must receive your Pixel 7 Pro before attempting to redeem your bonus bundle."

I don't have mine yet and apparently the invoice ships with the unit. I don't have the details necessary to fill in the claim form.

We have until the 13th November to claim.

  • Mine just arrived Pro Obsidian 512Gb. Trying to find a genuine case for it in any stores impossible and not sure if I want to spend $50 on a temporary case.

Might have to stay in the box for a bit yet LoL

    • The trials and tribulations of an early adopter!

    • Amazon?

      • Just looked again but no genuine ones on there? To be fair Google store is out of stock nothing local and closest I can find is HN wanting me to pre-order for 3rd November delivery.

        • eBay Spigen.

          • @slankets: Wanted genuine but not waiting more weeks to start using this phone.

JB HiFi had some EFM and Otterbox finally so I just bit the bullet.

EFM Alta is good case with good protection but a fingerprint magnet FWIW :)

LOVING the 7 Pro. Didn't think I'd like it that much better than my 6 Pro but I do.

            Recommended.

  • How are the deliveries going?

I haven't heard and hard to track because I did it through a small business account, which have terrible back-end systems.

    • Nothing here. I'm expecting it end of Nov latest but hoping sooner of course.

      • Received my items today. I submitted on 13/10.
