      The price is the price…

      • -3

price of the brick pixel goin' up

    • +7

      Tell 'em the price, son

      • +3

        Price, you winning?

    • +1

    • The price is right!

      • +1

        Come on down. !…

    P7P $1299 128gb

  • +10

A way for retailers to get rid of the Pixel Buds A

    • +1

Just wait till they start having to throw in Pixel Watch too

  • -7

JB hi-fi also running same deal.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/pixelbonus

    • +9

Not the same deal. That has Chromecast and no pixel stand or buds. Not the same value.

    • +2

      It's not the same

  • Yeah my bad you don't get the buds or the stand

  • +12

You'd be crazy to pre-order a line known for quality problems. Finger print reader problems again on the 6A

    • +1

I would wait for some youtube as well as consumer reviews. The specs look great tho. Not really worried about SOC speeds as most of the midragers can easily last the life of a phone.

But do I need to upgrade my P30 Pro tho, lol. I guess I will wait till the next gen.

      • +12

I "upgraded" my P30 Pro to a Pixel 6 Pro. It was so bad I sent it back. Then I "upgraded" my P30 Pro to a Samsung S22 Ultra. It's currently on its way back to Samsung with a broken screen (no physical damage, just has a horizontal line and the bottom half of the screen flashes bright white constantly).

I'm back on my P30 Pro for the minute and struggling to remember which bits of the Samsung were better. The P30 Pro is a great device.

        • +5

I totally agree. Its too bad US blocked Huawei. I am still on original battery and I get 2 days battery life on dual sims. The zoom cam is awesome and the phone is still very snappy and I never need to clear that 256GB storage. I dont need that 5G for now as I am always on wifi. So I guess I will use this thing for another year or two atleast before I look elsewhere.

          • +3

@John Doh: Yeah…. I agree the Huawei P30 series are good quality and long lasting. I presume P40s and the Mates are also great but it's a shame

          • @John Doh: I love my ulefone armor 9 (Ir camera version). I want to get a new phone before I break this one tho, as its still going to be useful for IR.

Thinking about a Pixel 7 - we have a 6a in the house and its brilliant

        • +1

Rough, really disappointed about Huawei. I've been looking at the Xiaomi 12S Ultra - thinking I'll give it another go following my Mi3 before my current P30 Pro.

      • +3

I was like you but it was 6 months ago. I upgraded from P30 to Pixel 6 Pro. It is so disappointing that I sold it off and got a second hand P30 again

        • Interesting. I'm still running a p30 and the only reason I'm looking into upgrading is because of the shocking camera quality on my p30 that seems to have deteriorated since i bought it 2 years ago

      • I am upgrading to the P7 Pro from a P10+ haha. No complaints with the phone overall. Maybe lack of stabilised video. Most reliable phone I have ever had.

I know that I am going to miss headphone jack and removal storage. Hopefully there aren't too many other annoyances with a phone that is costing me a lot more… let's see.

        • I never much missed the headphone jack as I dont listen to songs, for those emergencies where I needed one, I just used a converter that I got for cheap on ebay. Enjoy your new phone :)

        • Im in the same boat, though I have moved away from using a headphone jack as my phone had a waterproof cover and it was a pain to remove. Bluetooth rocks in that regard imo.

I wish it had removable storage, thats why I bought the 512 GB had one (my previous phone I had added a 512GB card to it) - id decide on the basis of how much you needed on your last phone at a minimum.

    • Call me crazy then. Cancelled my Google Store order ($300 credit) for this bundle offer.

      • If you signed up to the 2TB google one plan ($12.50 for a month) you would have gotten $430 credit on the Google store.

        • Good suggestion but I'll just take the hardware vs future purchase locked into Google store. Don't need One right now.

          • @slankets: Im in the opposite boat - I dont really need the credit because I have all the current crop of stuff I want - (Hubs of different types / doorbells / smoke detector / chromecasts and wifi points)

Wish the new Home automation stuff wa around the corner

            • @Franc-T: My wish was granted lol should have wished for something else

        • Where did you read about the credit? Im on the plan and never receive anything like that

        • have you got a link to this deal? Im paying for some google data anyway want to see if i can upgrade to get the credit (prolly not)

      • Targetted. Extra 10% off
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/729085

10% discount code plus 10% Google One credit, plus $300 pre order bonus. So effectively around $545 added value in discounts and store credits.

    • +5

True. Google always has issues at launch it's a track record.

      • +2

Sure, but so does Apple with the 14 at least this time. News feeds are rife.

What is it with these companies seriously? In such a rush to get new features to market they forgo proper testing?

        • QA looking crap these days tbh you're right.

Cut throat since the Chinese OEMs are just releasing phones every single week.

      • +2

Apple tracks everything too. Even gives users data to hackers because they asked for it lol.

    • I bought one. Must be.

  • The title should be in reverse

  • +4

Better wait for a few months before buying a pixel phone base on past experience.

  • +4

    Pretty good deal.

Very happy with my P6 Pro but it really want the macro feature on the P7.. tempted to upgrade.

    • Same as me, but might wait for reviews to see if there has been other meaningful upgrades in terms of battery life and thermal improvements.

      • I wouldn't be expecting anything game changing but probably 10-20% longer battery life from fab improvements, modem improvements and newer screen tech.

It has only been 12 months so we can't really expect much more than that.

        • -2

          Nope.
It's based on the same fab. The "new" 4nm is the same as the "current" 5nm. At best you're talking better binning, but that usually translates to More Speed rather than Lower Drain. What they've changed between the G1 and G2 chips is the iGPU.

Any and all battery life improvements will come from the software first, then the display, then antennas, and lastly the processor.

I think you're more likely to see worse battery life due to all the bloat there's in PixelOS (some from AOSP and some from Google). They're focused on gimmicks and changing the UI for the sake of change. Apple isn't much better, but they have much higher efficiency due to vertical alignment.

          • @Kangal:

            Nope.

The pixel 6 used Samsung's 5nm Fab, the pixel 7 is using Samsung's 4nm Fab, yes Samsung's 4nm fab is more comparable to TSMC's 5nm, but the pixel 6 didn't use that, it used Samsung's. So yes there definitely will be an improvement there.

As far as your list of battery improvements coming from the software first, then display, then antenna's, then processor… I'd definitely dispute that too, I would say yes, while the phone is sitting in your pocket doing nothing, yes software (and some hardware) features are the biggest difference between your phone draining 5% an hour, or 1% an hour, however as soon as you start using it by far the biggest drain on battery is the screen, then the SOC, which once again, google have updated both to newer tech, it's a new modem, new GPU and a newer 4nm FAB (while retaining the ARM X1 architecture for the CPU), so once again, there will be improvements in efficiency.

            • @Binchicken22: Samsung's 4nm = Samsung 5nm.
The biggest difference between them is the marketing. "Trust me bro". But yeah expect the same, sometimes it's even worse, and sometimes slightly better. But overall we're talking about the same silicon.

Now step up to the Samsung 6nm and there is a difference. Because that's their 7nm node just rehashed. Their 5nm node is the next node jump.

Don't let these spec jargons fool you, which it looks like it's doing effectively.

edit: it's silicon and not silicone, stupid autocorrect.

              • @Kangal: I don't understand why you picked this battle. I wasn't making any ridiculous claims about the pixel 7 having double the battery life of the 6, I said it should have 10-20% better battery life.

Do you genuinely think with the newer screen tech, the newer fab (even if the difference isn't that much, it's still better), the newer medium cores (A78 instead of the old A76) and the newer modem that the improvements won't be in that range? You think it will be less than 10%?

                • @Binchicken22: You can call it a battle, I merely came here to get the record straight. I mean I could do the same to you and ask "why you're being so defensive?" but that sort of thing gets us nowhere.

Battery improvements less than 10%… definitely.
Both the 6 Pro and 7 Pro use LTPO displays, so there's no major efficiency coming from there. They both have roughly the same battery size. They both use the same lithography 5nm vs 4nm. And the A78 uses slightly more energy than the A76, but provides proportionally more power.

So there is no room for improvement.
The only way the 7Pro is getting better battery life than the 6Pro is due to differences in software. This might mean utilising the X1 cores less often. Smarter scheduling of threads. Less bloatware. Or a combination of the three/more. And that's what I stated above already. The other unknown is the antenna, it could be equal or better or worse than the 6Pro when it comes to battery drain. I think 4G+ should be the same, and 5G might see some improvements, but our infrastructure isn't too great here so I think most people will be relying on the 4G connection anyway.

                  • @Kangal: I guess we'll wait and see what the battery endurance tests reveal next week then…

Though it sounds like you are going to say "naa they've totally made software improvements (even though both will be running the same version of android 13) to make it stream YouTube for longer, definitely nothing to do with the modem, SOC, next generation screen etc etc" so not really much point in continuing this.

                    • @Binchicken22: An apples to apples test can reveal where their differences and similarities lay. Why do you assume that I would be so narrow minded?

  • +1

    No fast charging, no deal.

    • +1

Eh, depends how you define fast charging lol

      • -6

Full charge 15 minutes or less. Minimum 50w wireless charging aswell.

        • +9

Full charge in 11 mins or less, min 1000W and airfryin chippies at the same time.

          Otherwise no deal.

    • A real question, but why is fast charging such an issue?

      • never owned an android phone thats got a true full heavy day battery life

        • I have. I had a Mi Max 3 and that has a crazy battery for the time.

  • +8

As with everything, GPU's CPU's and new phones, don't jump on the preorders, we saw what happened in the past 2 years, just wait for reviews so you can make an informed decision.

    • -7

I always wait for the reviews of a woman before I jump in

  • +1

    Smaller battery than 6

    • +1

Hopefully will have no impact as they would have better optimised the software, look at Apple, they have tiny batteries but their phones seem to last forever

      • The biggest upside to having your OS fully integrated into the SoC … Even though android is googles baby I can't see them being able to integrate at the same level so I'd expect it to be ok but not apple level efficiency.

      • The only way android can be optimised more simply at this stage, is to lock it down more, which then will be just like apple. To be fair though, Android is heading that way anyway. Less customisations, lower allowances for background tasks etc.

      • I doubt it based on all past Samsung manufatured SoCs…SD888, SD8 Gen1, all past Exynos chipsets. If Google has TSMC manufacturing their chips and they focused on power efficiency maybe

    • +1

      Smaller battery than 6

Not at all acceptable by her

  • +2

How is this going to compare to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, battery wise? I'm deciding between the two. iPhone batteries seem to be ridiculously better compared to Androids

    • +1

My experience has been the opposite, but I guess it depends on particular Android device and usage

    • +1

There is no comparison to be honest. For battery life, iPhone it is.

    • +6

The 13 Pro Max will absolutely wipe the floor with this battery wise. It won't even be close.

    • Yep, even putting aside individual use cases, the Pixel 6/6Pro dont even come close, so i cant imagine the 7/7P are going to be doing much better. This is coming from someone who wouldnt spend a dollar on an Apple product, but facts are facts.
Apple are still the battery life king for big phones and arguably do video better. For everything else there's an Android phone that wipes the floor with the iPhone range.

  • Been a while since I bought a phone, do they still have subsidised phones if you purchase as part of a plan?

    • +1

All that happens now is you pay for the phone in instalments… Best if you use the voucher type deals where JB gives you vouchers to use how u like if you sign up for 12-24months… Vouchers range between $300-$1000 depending ok the plan you choose and how long etc…

  • +4

Maybe if they threw in a Pixel Watch…

    • +11

If you get a pixel 7 pro on google store you get a $300 credit. Paired with both studentbeans or myunidays 10% off + google drive 2tb 10% credit. You have enough credit to get the pixel watch.

      • what is this 2TB credit? could you pls explain.. thanks

If you are on a google one 2tb plan or above you get 10% credit back at the Google store. FYI you get the credit after 30days of delivery

          • @phocus: Thank you.. I am on the basic google one plan.. that too from a different country :) I got the preorder 10% discount and a code from unidays as well.. so I guess that's it for me.. might actually go for the Telstra deal to claim from the org ;) Thanks for your reply

      • Pixel watch any good?

I mean a phone is costing as much as a laptop!

        • +1

Well on paper it looks not

    • I believe they are in UK. Gotta shift them somehow

  • Do we think JB hifi would be able to match this deal? More eye-ing the buds that's included in this offer
