Any Deal on 21 Days JR Pass?

Anyone know any current deal on for 21 Days JR Pass?

Comments

  • Saving of $11.80 on the standard JR pass if buying via Klook compared to the official JR pass website (can't post link so you have to find it yourself)

    • Alternative: change the currency being charged on the official JR pass website to one that has recently depreciated against the Australian dollar, to the point where the international transaction fees of your credit card can be covered by the price difference, yet still be cheaper.

  • do Klook charge in local transaction AUD and not some conversion rate to AUD and I have to pay international fees?

  • where are you visiting in Japan?

I lived there for 4 years and have returned there 5 times since, and would never buy a JR pass.

I recommend highway buses (overnight) or car hire or domestic flights (Jetstar japan offers (or used to - I don't know now) pretty cheap flights)

but depends on what you are doing.

  • @atomic
going there for a month, first 10 days I stay in Tokyo and Hakone, activate it on 11th day when I get to Osaka, stayed in Osaka for 2 weeks and use bullet train everywhere from there for day trip, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Hiroshima, Kii-Peninsula etc.. anything within 2h each way we do day trip
That way I can travel light with day-pack back and leave all the luggage behind in Osaka

I think my 21-days pass will be well and truly spent, I will make several round trips to Kyoto and other bigger cities etc…

I got all the flight and main accom booked, now I got to work on the logistics of where to travel and what transport to use.
find harder time working out travelling outside the big cities to rural area and national parks.

Also looking at hiring the car but to fit into my losgistic it cost too much hiring at one location and dropping at another, I may do for remote area day trip and drop it off at the same place.

we are going everywhere we fancy, no limit, we may go off the plan if there are some other place we like more than other

    • JR Pass doesn't get you on the Nozomi Bullet train though, (the real fast one)

    • If you are based in Osaka, you won't need to catch the bullet train to get to Kyoto, Nara and Kobe. They have local express trains that are a lot cheaper but only takes a little longer. For example, from Shin-Osaka to Kyoto, the bullet train takes around 15mins, a local express train takes around 25mins

A suggestion is to maybe get a 7 day pass instead and do all your longer distance day trips within that week? So like Hiroshima, Nagoya, etc etc. Then the closer day trips in your second week and just pay with your IC card.

      • I did the JR pass calculator thing and it works out similar or a little cheaper, but just for the connivence of it I just book seats instead of waiting in line and get tickets without JR pass

        • Ohh that's awesome then. I knew heaps of people who buys the 2 or 3 weeks JR pass and doesn't get their monies worth.

          Enjoy the trip!

        • I would have killed to be eligible for the JR Pass while I lived out there. You can very easily exceed value on that thing. Having done the highway bus, car hire, and domestic flight options, I would get the JR Pass in a heartbeat.
