Be aware these cheap chinese lithium batteries are generally made with second hand cells that are at the end of their life… They come from electric vehicles, street lights, UPS's, or the likes, they pull them out of service once their capacity drops to 80%, then they repackage them to sell in this form..

And as with anything off ebay there's basically no warranty outside of the 180 day Paypal protection…

    • +1

If you concerned with the warranty pay another $7.5 and buy from outbaxcamping Ebay at $411.75. Or another ~$250 and buy Renogy 100Ah battery.

      • +1

Outbax is Voltx, they're the same company, I assume this seller is Outbax also… Outbax is notoriously dodgy with their exaggerated specs and lack of support, you basically have no warranty with them also…

        • with majority of Ebay purchases there is a risk and at least with this brand/outbax you can try ACCC them if anything goes wrong.

There are a few youtube reviews on these brand battery if anyone is interested.

@Acejos: I'm sure these would be fine for someone that wants to do the odd weekend away or the likes, probably not worth it for a campervan or the likes that's going to get frequent use…

These 120Ah batteries would contain 150ah cells that have been cycled quite a few thousand times and their capacity has dropped to 80%…

LiFePO4 batteries are classed as being at the end of their life once their capacity drops to 80%, after that their capacity drops off rapidly which is why they're pulled out of service at 80%…

I think it's pretty dodgy selling these batteries that contain second hand cells as a new product, they should make it clear these are a recycled product..

Anyway, I just want people to know what they're buying, I was a bit surprised when I realized, it all seems very deceptive…

            • +1

@FLICKIT: You are correct, and this is exactly what i am using it for. Powering the fridge and other odd end items for the weekend away. it is a cheap power source for a little bit of comfort :)

        • I had a VoltX battery from Outbax that failed and they replaced it and refunded my shipping costs with very little questions asked. They were awesome

        • -1

You state that "lack of support, you basically have no warranty" but according to their website they
offer a 60 day moneyback guarantee with no restocking fees
They also have phone support not just "live chat". They even state that "Outbax offers a 12 month warranty on all products
from the date of purchase" on their website. Your accusations seem "exaggerated" or just not correct at all!!

        • eBay listing states warranty is 3 years.

    • +1

Do you actually have proof to back this up? Any links to verified info? I am not having a go at you by any means, its just I have seen no real evidence yet that this is exactly what is happening.

      • +1

I've watched a stack of videos in recent weeks researching LiFePO4 batteries… There's a video showing the cells in one of the VoltX 100Ah batteries are 120Ah cells but I cant find the video now, the reviewer claimed they were used cells at 80% capacity…… This seems to be fairly common practice for the cheap ebay lithium batteries.. You wont find any of these cheap lithium sellers advertising them as "new" cells, they claim things like "premium cells" and the likes, which they probably were premium when new, lol, and you cant buy new cells for the money these batteries are being sold for…

This guy thinks they're new cells, just b-grade, low-grade, or cells that have failed to meet their design capacity, either way rejects: https://youtu.be/I__xxeVaCRE?t=665 , he has a series of videos on the Voltx batteries, he seems to have mixed feelings about them..

At the end of the day you get what you pay for, if you're happy with buying cheap and only getting a couple of years out of a battery, all good, I considered going this way in the hope the prices of decent batteries will come down in-between times but I've been dealing with a low grade AGM in recent years and I'm just sick of crap batteries, so I went for a LiFePO4 battery with brand-new A-grade cells, I rather be enjoying my travels and not have to chase the sun for a charge or spend money booking into caravan parks to recharge in winter … New A-grade cells are likely to last 6000-9000 cycles, a decent life span…

    • "These cheap chinese lithium batteries" So are you just falsely tarring any Chinese battery with the same brush, or do you have proof that VoltX/Outbax is doing that with these batteries because the cells in these are new.

      • +1

I didn't say "any chinese battery", I said "these cheap chinese batteries" I'm saying you are not buying a quality battery at these cheap prices, you are buying crap, either second hand cells or very low grade cells, if you're happy with that all good… Just don't be fooled into thinking you're getting a bargain, or think a cheap battery like this is going to last anywhere near as long as a quality battery containing brand-new A-grade cells…

        • +1

Just like virtually everything, there's different quality products at different price points. But to claim these batteries are second hand out of EV's and street lights is a pretty bold statement to make with no proof. Problem misinformation is people take it as fact and they tell 10 people and they tell 10 people and so on. Then nobody can separate fact from fiction.

But of course, you are not going to get A grade cells and BMS identical to $1,000 battery brands but to say they are second hand is a stretch unless you have proof.

          • @LowRange: I'll have another rake around tomorrow and see if I can find the voltx video showing the second hand cells for you… If you do some of your own research you'll find a lot of these cheap batteries contain second hand cells…

  • DO NOT Directly charge any lithium battery without a BMS! Do not just connect a battery charger and start charging

    • +1

Pretty sure this has a BMS - how else would they be able to get to this size?

    • It has a BMS in it - all these style of batteries have one. The BMS in these is pretty basic though and only rated for 50 amps, which won't be enough if you want to run a high power device from it.

  • +1

That 50A max continuous discharge is disappointing.

  • +2

If you are going to take a chance on a cheap battery with little or no warranty and second hand cells etc, then here is another cheap option? It's the 100ah, but it comes down to $254 with the code. Even if, (worst case scenario) they are only running at 75 or 80% capacity, that's still pretty good for the price. I think I read on Ozbargain that someone else did a test and it came out at 104ah anyway. Seems like bang for buck, and it might do the job for a few years.

  • Any battery that is suitable for external battery on e-scooter like Ninebot Max G30 ?

  • +11

Got 2 of these voltx 120Ah, put them in the camper and went on a 3 month trip.
    They easily powered our kit.
Solar panel charged when the sun was out.
Charged via the car when driving.
Longest we stayed in one place was 6 nights.
Didn't plug into a socket the whole trip.

They were about $625 for the 2 via an ebay sale.
My mates have spent $1k per battery. The money i saved paid for the dcdc, acdc, monitor and install.

If they only last a few years who cares! Lithium will likely be heaps cheaper by then. And I'll probably never need them to perform for such an extended time again.

    Just my experience.

Pay the extra $200 and get the Renogy batteries…..no contest….

    • Well considering you can buy a cheap chinese one for $254.00, the Renogy would want to be more than twice as good. And I'm not convinced that they are. The cheap Voltx and the one listed above might easily get you through a few years, and meanwhile the price of Lithium batteries continues to drop.

      • +1

Or maybe it burns your car or camper to.the ground with a BMS failure.

        • -1

All lithium battery regardless of brand will have the risk of explosion and fire, remember Sony and Samsung story many years ago.

There are these fireproof bag for Lipo battery, it might help reduce some damages in fire and explosion for these battery.

just drill some small holes for pressure release

          • @Acejos: The cheap shit has a much greater risk.
I saw a Solar King nearly burn a 5th wheeler caravan to the ground last week, BMS failure by the look if it.
Customer burnt the shit out of himself to save his home.

He now has x2 Enerdrive 200ah lithuim installed, If im trusting not getting burnt to death while im sledping id rather trust a nane brand.

        • +1

Yeah NAH……. The firey failures are Lithium ION batteries as used in Teslas….phones, cameras, other consumer items.

These cells are Lithium Iron……….. different tech, Not as high energy density and largely non flammable….

      • -1

what ever blows your hair back…… IMO I would pay the extra for the renogy cells in my caravan. The warranty alone is worth it…
