          And "almost was" a customer..

Tried to buy the tablet+data deal in April, order cancelled, details kept and compromised..

@nismo: Yeah I love how businesses can keep your records when you tell them to take the rubbish products and services elsewhere

    • +1

All cheap/free VPNs sell your data in some form.

  • +13

If its free, you are the product..

    • Yes, but alas you can be a product even if you pay

      • Very unlike compared to using free services.

example other then this VPN: Google mail -> scan all emails -> understands you -> Sells stuff based on this to you via ads

        • Agree, but you can pay $100 for a VPN service that will still scan your traffic and sell to 3rd parties to get extra profit

          • @alenpln: Yes they could do that, people don't know that it's a game of trust. "oh look a VPN to keep me safe" is it? not always.

  • I can't find the United States, Japan, India servers.

  • +7

Any VPN services to use must have a strict no log policy. Otherwise there is no difference between giving your data to the ISP or the VPN provider.

  • +5

Nameless brand, free lifetime membership… Yep this one is storing the hell out of your data and selling it. No thanks

  • +10

The company email address is a Gmail account… Sus.

iOS? if its not on there then this is dodgy. Nothing is trust worthy on Android.

    • Sure ios has more strict rules for apps, but that doesn't really mean if there is an app in the app store then its good. This company could have easily pushed out a request for listing but they didn't want to bother with the hassle. (For clarification, i have an iphone and i have seen the most crappy apps still supported in the store)

The developer is Appntox. They don't seem to have an official website. And according to https://www.appbrain.com/dev/Appntox/, the company/developer locates in Pakistan, I am not sure about the privacy or log retention policy on the country and/or the company. I dare not to try…

    • Given that Pakistan didn't sell out bin Laden to Uncle Sam for 10 years, I guess it would be a better protection than others when your data is sought by you know who.

  • Link goes to a website, sus.

With so many warnings about the service in the comments of the deal, be cautious if you do decide to take up the offer.

  • hard pass

  • Came here for the "How is this different from xxxx product which is free" comments

Can we ask moderator or publisher to delete this post? there are so many warnings to not use this VPN.

    • -3

      Haha, yeah right

“Moderator, can you please delete this suspicious company post in favour of people not getting compromised” post stays

User comments on someone’s product saying they are unsatisfied, bam Moderator deletes.

      Go OB moderators

  • If, say, you ONLY use the VPN for accessing adult websites, so basically turn on, go to website, finish, turn off.

What risks does that pose on your data?

    I've always wondered about this.

    • TMI

      • I thought so too. But hey, what are the comment sections for if not clarification for a specific enquiry?

    • Some "VPN" providers use their customers as exit nodes, so someone from another country could be using YOUR device to sell drugs, communicate with terrorists, look up bomb-making instructions, and worse.

How would you like being on an ASIO watch list, with the small possibility of a raid?

      • That makes sense. As it is I'm already on the list, so this'll definitely trigger that raid.

      • I’ve never heard of this exit mode on normal VPNs, TOR yes, but highly doubt normal VPNs

        • See my reply below.

      • Highly doubt this as exit nodes are mostly for TOR. If this is really true then how come I havent heard about someone being raided cuz they used a VPN? The government isn't that dumb 🙄

        • It's all history, it has happened, and even been reported here on OzBargain.

I couldn't remember which VPN it was, but a Google search found one. Read this article, scroll down to the section about Hola:
          https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/avoid-bad-vpns/

I don't remember if it was Hola that was named-and-shamed on OzBargain.

          • @Russ: It normally doesn't happen, so far in the article only hola vpn were using devices as exit nodes.

            • @LuslecGrace: Free VPNs have to either pay for bandwidth, or use their customers as bandwidth. Where's the money coming from to pay for their bandwidth, if they don't charge?

I found the OzBargain post denouncing Hola:
              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/196076

I'm not saying ALL VPNs do this.

              • +1

@Russ: Thats the point, free vpns are why stuff like that happen. But it still remains pretty rare for a service to use customers as exit nodes. Though thanks for the info, never knew about this

    • Finish. Hahaha gave me a giggle

    • Ur trying to run away from ur ISP so they can't know ur watching **** but guess what? This service will just sell ur info anyways! Haha

  • I've uninstalled now after reading thru these comments!

  • Quick look Speeds on the servers that do work seem okay but there are limited servers and no settings options

    edit : no India server

  • THIS ISN'T A DEAL, even paying $3.49 for the app still isn't a deal unless you want to give everything on your phone and every website you visit to them so they can sell your info.
