I think this is the best price on these so far.

I bought the headphones recently (before the deal, sadly, but I was in urgent need of new cans when my last pair suddenly died), and they are great, especially for anyone who likes deep rumbling bass, and the sweet Sennheiser tones through the rest of the frequency range.

They're a little more scooped than the likes of Sony and Bose in the low mids, which seems to give the impression of openness, that you're listening to a good set of speakers rather than a pair of headphones. Clarity is fantastic, and the powerful low frequencies are on a league of their own compared to anything else I've heard so far.

I haven't encountered any glitches, but I've only had them for two days so far!

ANC is fantastic, transparency mode works well too.

Outstanding sound, for me it's better than my xm4, xm5, bose QC and 700s. Noise cancelling is not as good as those though but still great. Top tear comfort.

      Top tear comfort

Great music certainly stirs the emotions

    • with noise cancelling - it has much less cabin pressure than all the ones you mention which I quite like

Great price! Loved the sound of these over the XM5's, but had too many issues with them and had to return them.

    • Could you make the xm5s sound the same with an eq?

      • The XM5 have little 30mm drivers but made of carbon comp and the M4 have 42mm plastic drivers, they will sound different even with the same EQ spread of frequencies.

        • Driver size and material is not what exactly causes these differences

  • Any owners want to comment on the firmware stability of these? I've heard of people bricking them on updates, Bluetooth not connecting, the headphones turning themselves on in their case and other weird things.

After the last update my pair would not turn on unless I plugged them in and done the reset process. Once they were on they wouldn't turn off. Prior to the update they would randomly turn on and my phone would connect to them. Meaning if I received calls the audio would divert to the headphones despite me not having them on. It's a shame as loved how they sounded and were more comfortable for me than the XM5's. I am now looking at the B&W or Kef headphones to fill the void.

      • First time reading all those issues. I have read of other issues with the App being glitchy, but put those you wrote on top and it looks really bad.
I am not interested in spending this much on headphones right now but for those that want them it might be a better idea to wait 6 months for them to hopefully fix everything or just look at another pair of headphones.

    • My personal experience with updating firmware is I had read somewhere not to leave the app while it was updating, so only do the update if you won't need anything else on your phone for the next approx. 25 mins. I also stopped the screen from turning off to be sure. The update took about the time it said it would, however when finished it said the firmware was up to date, however the 'OK' button at the bottom of the screen was unresponsive. Pressing the back arrow up the top, or swiping back on the phone would pop up saying don't leave the screen until the update is complete!

I ended up force quitting the app, and haven't had any issues with the headphones from that point. The app states the headphones are now on the latest firmware.

For reference, my phone is a Galaxy S21 Ultra.

I'm sad the new model has cloth and plastic as material. The previous generation was made with stainless steel and genuine leather.

    • thanks for this. looks like i have to hold off for a better set of cans.

    • It's kind've a shame they ditched the iconic Momentum look. By all reports the sound is solidly better than the Momentum 3 and they're more comfortable so the changes were probably necessary.

Shame they haven't gotten their act together with the software.

      • I've read the sound is more of a sidestep from the M3, the quality being around the same but the tuning different, M4 having slightly less bass, more mids, even treble for an overall more balanced sound.

I used to have the M3 and have these M4 incoming so I'm interested to find out for myself though.

  • Can anyone comment on how these sound compared to Momentum 3? I have the 3 and pretty happy with it, wondering if it's worth upgrading.

    • I received the M4 from this deal yesterday, I prefer them to the M3 because they sound more balanced, the bass and treble are both toned down for less V shape, but still far from neutral in the bass, I use -3dB bass on the EQ. They are both very much cut form the same cloth, the bass is focused on sub bass rather than mid bass, the upper mids are further forward than lower mids, which makes male vocals sound a bit thin, the treble is neutral M4, but seems to take a dive after 10khz. Sometimes I found the M3 a little sharp for me around 5-8khz which is fixed on M4, but at the same time the M4 misses the welcome sparkle the M3 had up top past 10khz, so I'd say the M3 sounds more "fun" and also slightly more spacious.

The M4 has much better ANC, call quality, battery life, and also comfort for me, so easily worth upgrading for these reasons, but if looking for a jump in sound quality, not really, just different, an audio purist will welcome the more balanced sound of the M4 though, but dang does my HD800S sound sooooooo much better.

      • The 10khz dip is supposed to be there due to the shape of human ears. You're not supposed to EQ that unless you really want to. The shape of the ear naturally causes this dip

      • Thanks mate, this is exactly the kind of comment I was hoping for. While I might like to think I prefer a more balanced / accurate sound in reality the M3s do sound pretty fun as you say so might stick with them for a while longer and keep an eye out for deals. I'm sure the HD800S does sound a lot better though 🙂
