      • From the reviews there is a big jump in ANC on the AirPods Pro 2 vs 1. If you need ANC then you go PRO if you donā€™t, go non PRO.

        • +1

From experience, it seems to me that there is a BIG jump in ANC from V1 to V2 AirPod Pros.

I just upgraded from the Sony WH-1000XM3 to the WH-1000XM5 and regret the money spent now as IMHO the V2 AirPod Pros seem to have more effective ANC than even the XM5 (despite the reviews saying the XM5 is the best). I use the V2 pros almost all the time now as they are just so good and so convenient. I only use the Sonys on flights as they can be more easily plugged into the planes audio system to watch movies.

          • -1

@dtpearson: Apparently the transparency mode on the PRO 2 is amazing, care to comment? As a PRO person I mean.

          • @dtpearson: For flights, get something like this.

@netsurfer Could you please link an eBay product or 2 that you know will be "Jacked" tomorrow so we can see if these accusations are true?
The price should then go up tonight or tomorrow, then the product should drop in price again after 27/10 when the sale ends.
As I hear these Jackussations on OzBargain all the time but I don't think anyone actually proves it.
I know historically price jacking has happened, eBay Comes Clean On Price Jacking, Published: September 7, 2018
But as a regular user of eBay I have experienced price jacking but it was years ago, I haven't seen it happen for a long time now.
Are you, or someone else prepared to predict or callout a seller,
by including a link of a product with todays price, then lets see if the insanity really does happen?

      • A lot of eBay items shows the sold history (on desktop browser). You can easily see price jacks when seeing what it previously sells for.

Price jacks is very common.. often the seller doesn't apply it immediately when the promotion goes live.. so sometimes you can get ahead of it.

        • -1

@Thrawn Yes I am familiar with this search tool and I use "completed listings" or "sold listings" to try to find price jacking but I have not
seen it on eBay in recent times. I'm sure it happens, but I don't think it's as widespread as some OzBargainers would have you believe.
BTW what examples do you have of price jacking? I would be interested to look into it.

          • @PukeyLuke: Literally multiple examples given previously when people have asked the same question

            • -2

@quikstix: @quikstix But do you have an example of price jacking?

              • @PukeyLuke: yup search my comments as i've provided them before. Not just myself but there are many posted examples previously so instead of being lazy do the leg work and disprove the well documented fact that the jack exists. Or i mean you can just not do that and carry on not believing.. doesnt affect me lol :D

                • @quikstix: It doesn't answer his question - how widespread is it? There's no denying that it happens, but it's easy to cherry-pick examples and misrepresent the prevalence of it.

                • -2

@quikstix: Geez that's a bit rough, Um sorry I offended/annoyed you! But I didn't contact you, you contacted me, then complained when I replied.

                  • +1

@PukeyLuke: Not rough at all lol and not offended in the slightest just saying instead of requesting an example of it right now just look at the previous examples given. You didnā€™t contact me, thatā€™s correct but you did query it repeatedly above so I answered a community based question where someone asked repeatedly. Itā€™s not hard to find current examples to see how wide spread it is. Add a few things to watch list from main sellers in these promos that may interest you, screenshot said watch list if you donā€™t trust memory. Return when promo is announced and view day goes live or day before :) Iā€™ve had loads of items from hard drives, headphones, monitors, watches and even some cb radios / snorkels get a bump before the sales. I was set ready to buy when the bump pretty much made it either not worth it or barely a discount. Does it happen to everything, nope! Shared promo is where the issue is (ebay and seller or even just seller) I have found a few items Iā€™ve bought were not jacked but after I purchased they got a bump within an hr of sending links to mates (Example was some 8tb ironwolf hard drives not too long ago)

I mean both yourself and Eug have been around here long enough to have seen it for yourselves if you are eBay purchasers

      • Unfortunately, I am not a psychic. Also, please don't take it the wrong way, my original comment has a joke / fun element in there.

We know how these work. If this event is completely funded by feeBay, then there will be less price jack. If it is co-funded, some price jack is inevitable. It's due to some sellers don't want to fund their portions for some of the products. It's easier to change the price, rather than pull out / cancel the items.

Just note down SSD prices now. I don't want to list them because I understand why those sellers do it.

Anyway, I hope your statement is correct: haven't seen it happen for a long time now. If that's correct, we should see all time low 980 Pro 2TB SSDs tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I am all for all time low SSD deals tomorrow.

        • @netsurfer Yes I understood that you were being light hearted.
I did save a whole search page of "980 Pro 2TB" to see if these products are price jacked.
Partially due to the fact that I am also needing a new NVMe SSD.

          • @PukeyLuke: The ones with good prices are not eligible / included.
The ones which are included have uncompetitive price so after the discount, they are still expensive.

            • @netsurfer: @netsurfer But to be fair that happens in the bricks and mortar world also,
you know "Storewide Sale Everything 15% Off" then there's a huge list of items that aren't included.

              • +1

@PukeyLuke: Well, if you are not able to find any decent SSD deal and the pre-jacking happened before this is posted on OZB, are you saying then this is all legit and eBay is now doing the right thing? At what point do we really consider the price jack being dodgy?

So instead of return of jack is coming it is now jack has already returned.

As we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknownsā€”the ones we don't know we don't know.

You pay $49 annually to get an extra 2% off, nice work.

    • +13

Nah, everyone takes advantage of the stay on/sign up vouchers. Think atm it's $80 usually $30-50.

      • Nah they offered 30$ to start recently, didn't for for it but got the $41 sb cashback recently, So $8 for the year- nothing to worry about for membership.

    • +18

These days ebay pays us to be a plus member

    • +4

If you purchase $2,450, then you will save back the $49.

      • Also, it's not a once off. These eBay Plus discounts happen multiple times a year, so you may purchase more than $2,450 worth of things throughout the year - doesn't have to be all in one go.

        • +4

Thatā€™s if itā€™s actually cheaper buying off eBay and most of my purchases recently (say last year or just over) have been cheaper in store, other online sites or on Amazon. Yes a big part is due to the jacking but also due to the overall lack of competitive prices in comparison to the other sites more recently.

Donā€™t get me wrong Iā€™m a plus member but I end up getting $60 to $80 in vouchers to stay with them each time so it makes it work out for small odd things that end up cheaper on eBay. Unfortunately it also makes me buy stuff I donā€™t really need just to use the vouchers lol

          • +1

@quikstix: Very true. Sometimes prices get jacked up which makes it roughly the same price as the pre-jacked price, after applying the discount

          • @quikstix: Honestly I don't find Amazon cheap. They mostly price match others so I just buy whatever I need from the other stores šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
From ebay for example, I just picked up the mx keys mini for $79. Amazon has NEVER gotten that cheap. Amazon's main benefit to me seems to be next day shipping. To some that could be really useful, but to me it's only required for last last minute gifts. I don't mind waiting a few days for stuff.

That's not to say that ebay plus is better. But as long as they give $40 cash backs, the $9 eBay plus sub is more worth than paying $60 for Amazon prime

            • +1

@Ibz: Amazon and Ebay are cheaper depending on what you're buying. Grocery/household stuff is usually far cheaper on Amazon (and typically coles/woolies, and/or price matched plus the 10% discount for subscribe and save (and free delivery). I use both for different stuff.

              • @G-rig: Yep fair enough this seems to depend on how one shops. Normally I online shop for most categories, but actually prefer going in store for groceries as they're normally needed for dinner the same day. Imo it's also easier to pick from a range of items and see what you need in person. But I can totally understand the benefits of ordering in beforehand and saving money and shopping time.

                • +1

@Ibz: yeah agree, just for certain things if they come on sale and usually buy in bulk style items.

    • OzBargainers enjoy eBay+ without paying for it.

    • I just keep making new accounts when the eBay plus expires and sign up for a trial again for whenever I need to buy something that makes it worthwhile to go through the effort.

    • I was getting $5/mo vouchers with plus, which covered the $5/mo membership. Last week I took on their offer to give me $80 voucher when buying a $49 yearly membership.

  • How do I know whatā€™s on discount though.

If anyone actually pays for eBay Plus membership, they are doing it wrong šŸ˜‰

        • I must be doing it wrong. Each time I've tried I seem to have failed to get the enticement voucher (is it only once every few years?).

          • @ajm07: No, couple of times a year. You can make another eBay account and wait for the voucher. By the time this membership expires you'll receive offer on the other account.
At least that's what I do and never paid extra.
