Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic.

Step into the dirt flecked shoes of former outlaw biker Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter trying to find a reason to live in a land surrounded by death. Scavenge through abandoned settlements for equipment to craft valuable items and weapons, or take your chances with other survivors trying to eke out a living through fair trade… or more violent means.

Got this game a while back and started it but stopped right after. Somehow I couldn't get the motivation to continue playing it and I don't know why, same goes for Death Stranding. Though, I know that I will get the will to play them one fine day.

Same here. I bought it dirt cheap on some Epic special. Started it, found it "too hard" and slow (at the start) and then didn't touch it for quite some time.
But boy am I glad that I gave it a second shot though. In my opinion one of the best games with the best story line I have played in a very long time.
I cannot remember the last time that I game had me glued in front of my PC for that long day in day out- and not to grind some mindless quests.
I was happy and genuinely sad when I had finished the game.

      • Now, this is one great motivative post.👍

        Wattabout Death Stranding?

      • I stopped as well but found it too easy and linear. Then again, I usually like torturing myself with Escape from Tarkov and Stalker Anomaly Genesis so this is a walk in the park by comparison…

    • +2

I spent many hours trying to get through one of the first missions, at the motel, I thought I had to "clear it", you really don't, I can't remember what the objective was but it was just something like, "find some petrol". Don't worry about killing the zombies, just get that petrol and get out of there.

If you can get past the awkward voice acting it's a decent game. Gameplay is fun

    • +6

It's like they assumed you would always be on the bike, so Deacon has to yell over the engine noise.
Makes it very jarring if you're just walking around collecting supplies and all of a sudden his internal monologue is at full volume
      "GODDAMN FREAKERS!"

      • Or it's just mumbling and you can barely hear what the characters say

    • +1

lol, he seems like a nice guy till you trying to take down a camp, then he's all psycho muttering to himself, "I'm gonna $%#ing kill every last one you!"

  • +7

I really really liked this. I like motorbikes, zombies, end of world scenarios and I like the look of Oregon wilderness. This is zombie red dead with just as much annoying group / love interest bad acting.
Get to the big hordes though, and that's where the good times roll.

Best game I played last year
Waaaay better than Last Of Us 2

  • +2

Very good game. The storyline is a bit of whatever.
But the gameplay is a lot of fun.

  • +9

One of the best open world zombie games ever made. Needs a sequel.

    • +2

They’ve already announced they’re not doing one, but we’re getting a TV show for some reason

      • I’ll take it!

        • I’ll check it out, but I was shocked they aren’t using Sam Witwer (the dude who actually plays Deacon) as the character

  • +4

Thoroughly enjoyed this game. Sunk ~35 hours into a single playthrough and nowhere near 100%. Definitely worth it at this price!

    • I'm at 88 hours and 75% but i finished the main mission and that was enough for me, great game!

  • +5

Great game! I had a lot of fun with this one. The visuals would look even better on PC too.

  • +2

I like story games, I hate long grinding repetitive gameplay loops.

    Should I buy this?

    • Yep. the love story sucks, the group mentality of the surviving camps is fairly interesting

    • +1

100% (see my comment above, under the first comment)

    • +2

It's repetitive and the story is mega cheesy, but I found the late-game gameplay loop to be incredibly addictive. For reference: I never finished Far Cry 4 or 5, but Days Gone was my first (and easy) platinum on PS5, it was glorious.

The early game in Days Gone is pretty brutal and grindy though, it takes a while (10-20 hours) to really get going. This is a fairly long game.

Once you're fully kitted out and you can do the large hordes, it's super satisfying.

Don't expect The Last of Us-style storytelling, this is not that kind of game. I found the story to be serviceable, but the real highlight is the open world gameplay.

      • +1

The gameplay loop is amazing near the end.

I can't think of many recent games that have done levelling/progression as well as this game. It feels very different from the start to the end of the game, without feeling like you're completely over powered.

Is CDKeys a good place to buy from? Can’t recall which site but there were some with an iffy reputation

  • +1

Bought and played it on release and currently toward the back end of my 2nd play through. The voice acting can be a little weird at times with various mutterings and self talk going on but other times the voice acting is decent. Get past that though and the gameplay loop was enjoyable and the story had enough going on to keep me engaged and wanting to go out and do more things.

  • +2

Great find! Just picked it up!

  • +2

Picked it up for $26 a few months back and quite enjoyed it. Well worth it for sub $20.
Spent just shy of 30 hours with it.

  • +2

One of the few open world games I have completed, would recommend but do note it starts off very slowly and takes a while to click.

  • Great game, thoroughly enjoyed. Are they making any DLC or expansion packs?

    • I think the game really underperformed at release. It kinda killed off any plans for a sequel or DLC content

    • No expansion or sequel planned because the game did not do well on launch (on PS4/PS4 Pro); it was also very buggy and had performance problems, which they eventually fixed after a few months.

  • +1

Stunning beautiful on PC, those hordes though stopped me playing. To much effort for my liking lol.

    • The Nexus cheats allow you to stock up on ammo if you just want to hit hordes

    • +1

Its great fun setting up bombs and fire traps with molotovs etc then luring a horde into an area and setting them all alight.

    • +2

Hordes get easier and more interesting as time goes on. The progression in this game is great as you start to unlock new weapons, which lead to new techniques.

  • +1

Thought this game was worth it even at $60.

  • +1

    Grabbed it, thanks OP!

  • +1

I tried this when it was on PS+ but just never really got into it. I didn't think it was terrible but just not particularly good, either, and it needs to be particularly good to justify putting my time into it. Especially considering how long these open world games tend to go for.

  • I just couldn't get in on ps5 either…but thankfully the MOD community on PC kept it alive for me

  • Great game.

  • +1

I friggin LOVED this game on PS4. Everything about it had me hooked…

  • Really loved this game. Played maxed on pc. The transitions from when it rains or snows to when it dries out on the ground/char/objects is nuts

  • Haven't we been playing this game in real life since 2019?

  • -5

Just another generic boring shooter with zombies. Are people so easily entertained they can play some "post world apocalypse game" with Zombies over and over? Doesn't anyone have an imagination?

    • Just because you found it boring doesn't mean others will so there isn't much point to your negativity here.

    • Great game!

    • Hardly generic. Point to another game with the same theme/setting and gameplay loop.

Definitely stands out as unique amongst all the other zombie games.

      • -1

Unique because it has a new hat. The game is an utter stinker.

  • +1

I specifically made a list of GREAT (as opposed to 200other ones I got which may be great, too) games that I have in my libraries and haven't touched them yet

when a game deal comes up, I bring up that list and stare at it. saves me money by not buying more

oh, and I have eternal Xbox game pass ultimate from work. nah, I am good.

the only game I'll buy when it drops well would be Cyberpunk. it's ripe for taking

  • +2

I wish the Australia dollar was stronger. 1 to 1 parity with the US dollar would be fantastic for us bargain hunters.
