The only thing i can think id ever use for (don't own any) would be luggage travelling, or maybe a pet if it was big enough for it to not be annoying to it. But i rarely lose things, i guess there are plenty of people who do somehow.

@Sheng: Perfect, is it hidden somewhere in the car or do you need to install it near the front windscreen ? Battery changing is required frequently ?
@ChipsChicky: It's in the boot with jumpers and first aid kit. To avoid bluetooth stuff hitting it. Battery is just the one from your key fob so it will last at least one year.
I got one in the boot. Just sits in the toolbag.
Also keep a couple in the kids school bags with the speaker delete mod.

They beep constantly to warn people it's around. Not great for school so look up the speaker delete mod. Pretty easy to do.
@Herbse: Isn't it that you turn on the speaker yourself when you are nearby and want to trace it OR it just beeps continuously and you need to delete the speaker function completely ?
@ChipsChicky: Yea the beeping is there to locate it when it's nearby but it also beeps when it loses its connected to the phone it's linked to. And when it's moved with no connection. So it was going off during class.
I removed the speaker physically to stop that. But yea, now I can't use the speaker to find it if it's hiding somewhere.

I still think it’s a gimmick invented by Apple to take your money. Don’t really see much real need other than creating more electronic waste and landfill in a couple of years.
It's not going to suit everybody but I can think of plenty of use cases (mostly posted above). Personally only one of these appeals to me, putting it in checked luggage.
