    8 channels…. 256gb RAM……. RGB

    such a niche market….

    • If you are building multiple rigs or have friends, this is like $256 for 64GB dual channel decent spec RAM.
Possibly even sell some of the RAM.

  • Hmm…seems a bit low.

  • +3

    Will it handle minesweeper?

    • +2

      hardly

    • +2

only if you use all 8

  • +7

Almost enough memory for a chrome tab

  • I'd buy this but would need 3 other DDR4 mates..

    • count me in. i dunno why i would need 2x32, but i would never say no for a great deal.

    • I'll give ya 5 bucks. so do we have a deal?

  • -1

Crazy. This costs more than most cheap computers cost.

Who has the budget to spend nearly a grand just on RAM alone and not only that RAM which is becoming obsolete because it's DDR4. And it isn't even DDR5 RAM.

What use currently would you have of 256GB of RAM in ordinary home use. Then again to get a motherboard which has 8 RAM slots is not cheap. Can easily set you back $500 just for the motherboard for the 8 RAM sticks.

    • Most computers cost more than $1k

      • Not unless you're stingy and go for one of the $800 all in one PC you get from say Officeworks. You know bought by one of the average clueless mum and dad buyers.

Or maybe this for around $900. Doesn't come with a monitor but. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lenovo-ide…

So this RAM kit does cost more and if not as much as some home computers which the average non tech savvy dad and mum buyers buy.

        • +1

Ultra budget build could come up at $800 with a second hand gpu. The point of this kit would be for professionals that need bulk ram and don't build budget rigs.

          • @Budju: I suppose. Although it's a grey import so how would a situation with warranty be. It's not a cheap purchase.

            • @hollykryten: I was just looking into it, and this ram might be useful for making a threadripper 64 core VM host so you can have one computer giving out 16 VM instances with 4 cores each and up to 16gb ram. 16 fairly powerful PCs powered by one big rig, maybe for an internet cafe or something.

Warranty wise, ram is normally pretty fail proof.

    • Seen the prices of DDR5?
If you are building multiple rigs or have friends, this is like $256 for 64GB dual channel decent spec RAM.
Certainly a deal, but like most deals they are not for everyone. I don't complain when deals on womens sanitary products are advertised, just because I am not the target market.

  • Nice price. Any ddr4 social groups where I could meet like minded individuals?

  • So much ram.

  • +1

Ok, if you are building 3 or 4 rigs.

  • What the funk?!?!

  • +1

I bought 256GB for my TRX4 3990X system (work, not personal) of G.Skill Ripjaws 3200 16-18-18-38 which was $1700 at the time (Nov 2020)

So yeah, pretty much equivalent for almost half price is pretty good!

  • That's like $256 for 64GB, great price if you have friends or building multiple PC's

  • +1

ahhh remember the times when 256MB of RAM used to be sufficient ….

    • Yeah. And not only that i also remember when 4MB of RAM used to be sufficient. Good old DOS 386sx PC days.

Ordered this from Amazon US, arrived today. Opened up and it was a 50x pack of disposable masks! So frustrating, now have to go through the returns process for a refund as they don't offer the option for a replacement.

    • +1

      What the hell!

    • +1

Hope your return is going well. Check this deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/735533

    • Feel for you @pennypetaz

Wow the worst horror story so far

Usually they stuff up with other lower models of a product series rather than completely different

Though they also sometimes send empty boxes internationally…

This seems to be trending to further unconscionable levels that are more difficult to smooth away.

Hope OzBargain similarly keeps threads like these open to allow sharing receipt experience

*Checking in on this post from Kingston FURY Renegade 32GB (1x32GB) 3200MHz CL16 DDR4 RAM $131.28 Delivered @ Amazon US via AU

      • I've had to call them 4 times to get updates as I returned via ParcelPoint & you don't get any tracking information. Amazon account just says you'll receive your refund within 30 days of them receiving the returned items (in this case a 50 x pack of disposable masks).

It's taken multiple phone calls, each call I've been told the the case had been escalated and I would receive calls back - no one ever called back.

On the 4th phone call, I managed to get the return "advanced" and rather than wait 30 days after the return of the original package - it's now apparently being refunded within the next 2-3 days. I made the order on the 21/10.

After I asked multiple times for some form of compensation for the stuff around, I was offered a $10 credit.

  • Should we still upvote these value deals when the volume of erroneous (always lower) order switching become increasingly more commonplace?

Negative vote guidelines based on experience with seller?

  • If someone has ordered and wants to split their order 50-50 with me let me know! 😁
