    Not a price error.

  • +3

Will buy if the screen is 2k

    • +3

I have a 2K screen on a 16" laptop (Legion 5 Pro) and it's pretty hard to read.

      • +6

Change your text size to the recommended

        • +9

          Never.

          • @coxymla: Magnifying glass, then it'll be like a 27" screen!

      • +2

Really? I’ve got the L5P too, if anything the text is super clear. Probably one of the best screens out there on a gaming laptop for that range.

        • What DPI do you use?

      • +4

        Get bigger eyeballs bro.

        • +2

@ChickenDinner123 Just waiting for a 2 for 1 bigger eyeballs deal to pop up on OzBargain.

  • +4

Not an amazing price.. depends on screen specs. Is it OLED? 400nits? Or just 250nits 45%NTSC?
16GB with reasonably good screen and CPU has been common Ozbargain standard for 2+years at ~$1,100 price

    • the flip side is where were all the 12 core mobile processors.. two years ago… at $1.1k…

further, the screen specs are all there in the description… also there's some reviews already out… more than enough to make an informed purchase

      • +2

        Ehh…its not true 12 cores, more like 4Performacne + 8 efficiency cores.

Despite this battery life is crap, similiar Ryzen give 1.5 - 2 x as much battery life.

        • Yes but no. Ryzen 4800u is probably still a better choice for mobile. Core count is not the best measure. There's been many deals for good mobile notebooks for $1,000-$$1,200 that are better than this deal… Unless you must have Thunderbolt

    • Screen is matte and is reasonably decent. Don't have the specs but viewing and colours is cromulent. I think its about 300 nits.

Don't buy!! This is only 4GB Apple Unified memory equivalent… Can someone post a Apple fanboy vid to validate this specious claim?

    • +1

Not apple, it’s an orange 🟧
      (as per the thumbnail)

    • Its a windows laptop ya donkey.

    • Apple does not have a 16" laptop in this price range.

  • Does anybody have experience with what the real world battery life is like on this?

    • Are you the chosen one?

      • With a name like "Dave"!?

        • The chosen one will appear perfectly ordinary.

I have the business one (I think the latitude 7XXX something that cost like $3k but pretty much the same specs except it has matte touch screen that I never use) for work purpoises.

Get around 5 - 6 hours on battery saving mode (and maybe 40% brightness). This is for typical office work like multiple office docs, chrome open and other business stuff.

If you start doing heavy CPU things expect to get around 3 hrs?

Edit: Sorry I have the 14" one for work. This one has should have bigger battery (due to larger chassis) but don't expect battery life to scale (cause of bigger screen).

      • +1

Sounds about right for 3 to 6 hours. Itll be good for a lecture or meetings but mostly live on a desk plugged in.

Get the dell xps if battery life is important

    • +1

I have this laptop and battery life is around 4 to 5hrs. Depends on use. I only use mine for reading and web surfing.

    • 12th gen have bad battery life

  • +5

Original price $2149 was ridiculous to begin with.

  • +2

Why is everyone lukewarm on this deal? Seems like excellent specs for the price, especially when most 16" laptops are stupid money.

    • +2

40 up votes is reasonably popular? Anything in particular you'd like to call out?

    • +2

This machine is a mediocre desktop replacement and not really a laptop

      Minimum 1.9KG
i7-1260P TDP is min 28W and max 65W (!) at turbo, battery life will be terrible and the AC adapter is only 65W which means you will be losing battery life running this laptop at max speed even when plugged in
GPU performance worse than a sub $900 Lenovo

Intel 12th Gen for laptops is a failure, the terrible efficiency can be hidden on desktops but AMD has them completely covered this gen

I only had experience with dell's 11th gen line, but the engineering is honestly beyond atrocious.

USB+sd card seems to share a hub, frequently disconnects if you're putting a lot of bandwidth through it.

The keyboard keys often enough don't register after 18mo of use.

The screen has weird purple outlines on it (from day1) as if the connector isn't secure (used to happen on old vga connections).

The screen gets stuck in random rotations.

I've been through 4 laptops that dell kept replacing. All just as junk. My cousin also has one. Also similar issues.

Not to say they're not worth buying, but Dell definitely skimped on engineering at this price, at least last gen.

    • @incipient I've been through 4 laptops that dell kept replacing.
That's a lot of laptops, so they sent you 5 laptops, or you got a refund after the fourth?

      • The first one I plugged into charge and it just immediately refused to charge. The second, the purple lines made the display unusable. The third the usb problem was so bad the mouse would jitter, and I'm now using the fourth.

I mean I got a wonderfully fast top end 11th gen, with 16gb ram and a 512gb ssd for a very cheap price. But there were tradeoffs.

  • +1

It feels stingy to include just 1 year of warranty at $1300 when there are trademark features of a cheap laptop, e.g:

    • Barrel jack charging
    • Meh screen even if the screen to body & aspect ratio is good
    • HDMI 1.4 in 2022
    • No thunderbolt over USB-C on an Intel laptop
    • Mainly 5Gbps USB ports
    • Small 54Wh battery for a 16" laptop, you can find bigger batteries in 13" laptops

It's an okay deal I guess, but not a must buy like the Dell eBay monitor sales where I'm convinced they must be selling them at a loss.

Thanks OP, purchased one for the missus as it fits her use case perfectly.
SMB and SOHO predominantly works indoors with access to a desk and power point.

YMMV, luckily enough I saved an AMEX offer 10% cashback.

Overall I think if your use case fits this device it is a decent choice (for the price) especially the way the economy is at the moment.

    Positives:
    • Recent CPU
    • 16GB RAM
    • 512GB SSD
    • 16:10 Ratio and 16" (awesome for documentation)
    • USB-C port with PD and DP
    • Can replace RAM, WIFI, Storage (bonus for later down the track for those OZbargain component deals :) )

    Negatives:
    • Battery life
    • Screen Quality (for the price its decent IMO)
    • Loud fan noise

  • +1

16 inch but no numeric keypad, wtf.

  • Mine still says 2150, is there a code or some sort?

    • Either the sale is over or it was a price error.

No coupon codes, discount was applied at landing page and throughout checkout.

  • I got one of these for $1226 months ago from 'partner' pricing. It's pretty good. Can easily play games like Hearthstone with onboard graphics.

Haven't extensively used it to make much more comment about battery life or quality howeve.r

  • I know this has expired but I built one up for a customer this week with Ryzen 7 and a 3K screen resolution. Very nice and a LOT more usable space for actual work that a 15.6" screen.

    I was impressed.
