    Today's my licky day!

Ozbargain needs to stamp out those kind of puns before they envelope all our posts…

      • well done……

  • I never used post stamps last 10yrs.

    • +7

hmm, did you know you can get away with sending things up to 2cm thick with 2 or 3 stamps? much cheaper than parcel post.

      • +3

Thanks mate! Your tip will save my money in the future.

Sometimes i send parcels with a few $1.10 stamps. They still deliver them

        • That's how you posted parcels in the olden days, so long as the stamps add up to the postage cost.

          • -2

@OZBargainer in SA: I put like 2 or 3 stamps max with no return address and chuck it in the street box. I have tracking labels at home . Thats how i know they still deliver them.

Ive also experimented once with a photoshopped "postage paid" and they delivered it. Again no return address

AusPost can suck my balls. They have lost a few parcels of mine "in the sorting facilities" and refused to compensate. That usually means that someone inside is stealing them.

    • The internet removed most requirements for post stamps for letters; granted.
People attracted to this are likely people looking for a way to reduce their package postage costs.

Anyone else think it's odd that a random seller is selling Australia Post stamps cheaper than RRP when Australia Post do not provide discounts on 100 pack of stamps? There is no business account discount as I have a business account myself.

Best I have heard of is a concession discount but that's on booklets of stamps not boxes.

I'm starting to think they're mimics of real stamps / non-authetic stamps, that could be detected by Australia Post and subsequently your mail isn't delivered. The example in the photo doesn't have the break-away corners like the Australia Post issued stamps. Of course the photo is an example and likely indicative but still.

Based on my calculation as per an eBay fee calculator the seller is likely making $70ish after fees and postage. $70 when it's RRP $110 with no discount from Australia Post….. something doesn't add up

    • Often the images are just stock/CGI photos of the stamp graphics, you'll see the tear marks on the limited quantity listing here

But I agree, the price difference is odd. Our previous go-to seller postage.n.stuff has basically been shut down so some intervention might've happened there.

    • Sorry I forgot to mention that the concession discount applies up to 50 stamps @ $3 per book of 5 stamps per year, so unless the seller has a network of people on concession and using them to make $$$$

Either that or the seller is connected to or is an Australia Post outlet that's sneaking out books (or boxes) of stamps without anyone noticing and selling them on the cheap; but putting them on eBay wouldn't be a smart idea if that's the case.

The listing does look like the books not the boxes but still the fact remains.

I'm trying to wrap my head around what is happening here….. As someone who goes through a few boxes of stamps per year I'd LOVE to purchase these to lower my overheads a little but as per my thoughts on the matter I'm still a little iffy

      • I think browsing past deals may help

Concession discount are for concession stamps - not actual $1.10 stamps. The stamps are different and indicate they are "concession stamps". If they issued face value $1.10 stamps for $0.60 you would have every concession card holder reselling them to businesses.

Businesses sending out letters using concession stamps would tarnish the business name; hence the condundrum.

I think seller is just buying up large bulk stocks and reselling given they have 60,000 odd sales on ebayx. It's a criminal offence to create fake stamps - hardly seems worth it for a reseller on ebay in the scheme of things.

        • Concession Stamps have no face value (hence its removed), but rather a credit's for "letters" only (1-5 stamps that work $ to $ for a normal $1.10 stamp). Concession stamps cannot be used for parcels; hence these are great for concession holder that want to ship anything bigger than what fits into a "letter size"

I know businesses get decent discounts on Level 3 or above, but not 100% sure if this applies to stamps. I know some businesses buy them for a tax claim and then on sell them cheap as an individual, but this is normally smaller amounts (and is tax fraud).

            @Froot Loops:

Many companies don't track the usage of stamps and dodgy employees steal them and resell them on ebay too. The company can legitimately continue to claim them as business expenses, with the dodgy employee making a few $. Grabbing a box of stamps from the drawers of someone at work and reselling them on ebay is pretty much pure profit, but again, done on a smaller scale than the listings in this bargain I would imagine.

Same with satchel delivery bags etc. We have so many disappear over the covid period at the company I work for - bags and bags of them unfortunately.

            • @MorriJ: Yup. We had this issue for a university I worked for. I don't think I every paid to post a letter working there, but I didn't take them home. My boss also didn't give a shit as we were underpaid and constantly weren't paid for OT. The people I know trying to do the stamp write off were the owners. It's a clever way as they are like currency themselves. I'm surprised the ATO hasn't cracked down on postage stamps, like they do with GC's

              • @Froot Loops:

'… as they are like currency themselves'

This post/situation reminds me of the original Ponzi scheme!

      • OP added the link to these which look more authentic (Has the break away corners which would be hard to replicate) so I bit the bullet

        • They're all authentic, check the listing feedback :)
If you compare the erratic-seller's photos to what AusPost publishes, as I said they're simply the CGI thumbnails of the stamp art. The physical copies have the tear marks.

@Techie4066: Thanks Techie4066. That seller is likely going to experience some good ol Ozbargain community love in the form of their listing being Ozbargained sooner or later hahahaha

        You snooze, you loose

    • The seller might be winding up his business and selling off unused stamps. My business sold off thousands of dollars of prepaid Fastway labels 10% off face value when we relocated and switched to another courier company.

Note the price has been jacked to $94.99. $10 voucher works so $84.99. I also used $81.88 GC (my full remaining balance) and $3.11 on visa, so for people with the 5% of eBay GC, this might be an good option

    • SB 5% ebay GC deal finished…shame…😔

      • +1

Worked out a very good deal for those that have them and purchased before the seller jacked the price.

    • So frustrating, I changed the seller to save a buck

  • note: I think that in January Aus post is jacking up the price to $1.20
