    No free shipping like before?

  • What are the key differences between 9020 and 7040?

      1980

      • +41

        Listen here you little shit…

        • -7

what makes you think I’m little?

          • +13

            @00: Your size is 00

            • +4

@Surtr: They’re my eyes not my size.

              • +3

@00: Based on the size of your eyes, you are small.

                • +5

@DARK KHAOS: depends on how large your screen is

                  • +2

@00: I changed my resolution and now your eyes seem larger.
                    How did you do that?

    • +3

7040 runs cooler, newer gen cpu, but only ~10% faster when 6500 vs 4570, uses ddr4 ram, better onboard graphics
9020 uses ddr3 ram if u have those laying around, cheaper

      • uses ddr3 ram if u have those laying around

And the DDR3 ram can't have a heatsink attached, or you won't be able to reassemble the case, as the ram will block the HDD/SSD carrier.

Been there, made that mistake. And then I tried to pry the heatsink off the ram, and tore chips off as well.

        • +3

RAM doesn’t need a heat sink.

          • @PainToad: I bought ram with heatsink, because the fastest compatible ram sold by Amazon (2x8GB sticks) was only available with heatsink.

Only AFTER it arrived, and I installed it and tried to put the PC back together, did I realize my mistake.

  • Does this come preinstalled windows? My kid really needs a spare PC to run adblocker on youtube instead of on the native tv app haha

    • +11

      Yeah comes with W10 Pro.
Though if you're just using it for adblocker on Youtube, wouldn't it be more sensible to pay $12/year for YouTube Premium? It would take you over 10 years to break even this way.

If you used it for any other purpose, it would be worth it but you don't need something this powerful to use adblocker either.

      • +1

Dont forget power costs, if its an always on device even at 5% load thats a negative return vs premium.

        • +3

Oh yeah, true I completely forgot about that. Plus that computer will have to be functional with no hiccups for a further 10 years, meaning it'll be close to 20 years old.
          Correction: you'll never break even.

      • Wait Youtube premium is only $1 a month? I thought it was $12 per month lol.

        • It is $14.99/month.

          • +8

@ultraviolet: Hand in your Ozbargain license if you’re not using a VPN to get YouTube Premium cheaper

            • @PainToad: Mine is a platinum license. I am paying nothing to youtube. No ads at all when watching youtube.

    • -1

On the off chance that you are serious, check out Pi-Hole.

      • +1

Pi-Hole doesn't block Youtube ads unfortunately

        • My mistake, sorry! I must have misread

    • YT is $15 per month. Break even pretty quick and plus the TV native apps are real crap. Call me old school, still prefer to run stuff through a PC.

i got one of these for my little cousin and popped in a GT 1030 from gumtree for $35

    Game runs at 100fps medium 1080p :)

    • +1

      Nice. I might do that!

    • +18

I’m holding out for the sequel, Game 2.

I'm running a GTX 1650 low profile in mine.

I also upgraded the power supply.

      • Does one need to bump up the power supply for a 2gb or 4gb card?

        • +1

My power supply died a couple of months after installing the card.
So possibly was due to the 4Gb 1650, or may have been dying anyway???

I ended up getting a 315W replacement power supply from ebay that's done the job since.

          • @jv: Nice work and thanks for the info

          • @jv: Would you mind confirming which GTX 1650 low profile and upgraded power supply you went with? Keen to understand what fits based on your experience. Cheers.

            • @Wubes:

              • MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GT Low Profile

              • Dell Optiplex 04FCWX XE2 T1700 D315ES-00 H315ES 00 VX372 315w SFF Power Supply

I've also removed the side panel for better ventilation.

              • +1

                @jv: Cheers. Thanks again

    • That's brilliant, there really is no need to spend big money for a gaming setup!

  • +1

Do you have any deals for 6 cores?

    • +6

      deals for 6 cores?

      $3.99

  • can I connect 3 monitors to this, 1 to the VGA and 2 to the displayports

    • According to this page, the display ports are V1.2:
      https://www.hardware-corner.net/desktop-models/Dell-OptiPlex…

DP1.2 supports up to three monitors per DP socket, in daisy-chain mode. But that means two of the monitors will need DP out sockets, and not all monitors have that.

I don't know if the this PC supports three monitors per DP port, but I have one, and Linux reports that there are five possible outputs for sound: four monitors and the on-board sound chip. So it looks like it supports at least two monitors per DP port.

      • +2

The screen count is limited by the video controller though, not the display ports themselves.

If your controller can only drive three displays, then that's your limit - if you chain all three from one display port, you can't also run screens from the other display port…

You'll need to check how many screens the onboard graphics can drive 👍

        Edit :

        https://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/products/sku/7504…

        displays supported : 3

        • displays supported : 3

Is that per DP1.2 port, or for the entire PC?

    • Yes, I have done this before.

    • +1

I have three eyes too and interested

  • do these have space for a 3.5inch HDD as well?

    • Yes, there is a 3.5-inch HDD bay, but the SSD is screwed into that bay. If you can anchor the SSD elsewhere, you can fit a HDD. Spare space is tight in this PC.

      • he can just piggyback the ssd on the hdd in the 3.5inch bay, or pull the dvd out and put the ssd in there

        • Doesn't look like there's enough room for that, the cage encloses the 3.5 bay on top and bottom. DVD mounts directly on top of the cage, and ram nearly touches the bottom of the cage.

If you don't install any pcie cards, you could put the SSD in their empty space, but there is nothing to anchor the SSD to.

          • @Russ: i've tried. there is room on top of the hdd to slide in a ssd

      • thanks for the reply. legend

    • I wonder if the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 on the same site for $129 has more space?

  • Typo on site:

    I/o Ports - 4 External USB 3.0 ports (2 front, 2 rear) and 6 External USB 2.0 ports (2 front, 2 rear); 1 RJ-45; 1 Serial; 1 VGA; 2 DisplayPort

    • +1

It'll work but this is a 9 year old PC without a GPU (Graphics processor), a new iPad is more powerful than this…

      • Good to know. Thanks.

  • Hey OP, no free shipping for ozbargainers?

  • Oooooh that's some cheap ram upgrade.

I wonder should I get the i7 version for my nephew's Photoshop machine.

  • +1

A 120 Gb SSD is small, buyers should think about an upgrade to a 240 Gb SSD.

Five months ago, I bought a refurbed Dell OptiPlex 7050 with a 256 Gb SSD for $233 (delivery included).

I only run Office Professional Pro 2019. I only have a few Word and Excel files plus a few photos.

So far, I have used 60 Gb of the 256 Gb SSD. I do not play games or store videos.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm looking to pull the trigger on this machine. Unsure if its worth upgrading the RAM(+$40) or the SSD(+$30). Looking to get a unit as cheap as possible for browsing/docs based work. Considering the default option as its cheapest and always have the ability to upgrade in future. Anyone know of any means of obtaining a discount code?

      • problem is once you start adding the upgrades
you might as well build your own pc (if you can)

  • These any good as a MAME machine to run games like Gauntlet, Simpsons, TMNT etc at original resolutions?

  • Still using about 20 of these as office desktops. Very reliable machines. Don't seem to have the PSU failures long term like some of the earlier model dell SFFs with poor quality capacitors.

    • i bought a 9020 sff from a similar deal on ozbargain and the psu exploded right after 6 month warranty
