Flybuys dollars cannot be used for online purchases.

    Why not?

    • +2

They can Fly Away in Online transactions.

You can use flypay to redeem your flybuy point, but capped at 10000 points per shop.

    • +1

When you redeem Flybuys points for dollars, the Flybuys dollars actually get loaded on to your physical Flybuys card, which you then swipe at the store when you pay for your purchase.

not worth it…spend $10 Flybuys dollars and you’ll earn 200 points.

10 Flybuys point equals to 2000 point and you only get 200 points back ?

    • +14

200 points might not be a lot, but it is better than nothing considering you would normally get 0.

      • normally i keep the point and not spending it so i can exchange it on their reward store.

        • +5

What do you redeem your points for?

I always "cash out" as their rewards store items are always so expensive for points conversion. I just wait for the things to go on sale elsewhere.

          • @kickling: Am still collecting besides the point (not 100 K yet) and it has no expiry date so why not keeping it.

            • @HolyCr4p: | Why not use the points?

Because opportunity cost and time value of money

              • @kickling: like i said i would keep my points for something i can exchange in the future e.g appliances, watch, mobile phone etc

                • @HolyCr4p: Yes, this is what I mean. You are better off buying these things on sale and/or with cashback and/or with discounted gift cards.

Run your rewards points to the ground to keep more of your cash in the bank. Reward points don't earn interest, and they are limited in their usefulness, and there's always a risk that program will die or change significantly.

              • +1

@kickling: +1 to this. These little points aren't earning interest and the risk is Flybuys program bean counters decide to adjust the redemption value in the wrong direction (for the consumer). Earn and burn.

          • +1

@kickling: I usually wait until they have a discount sale for gift cards. Usually can get 10% off

            • @nicholasv: I've never been successful in buying giftcards with flybuys dollars. Always get bounced and have to use actual RBA currency.

i could be wrong, but the link you provided shows your Flybuys name and account balance before logging in

Might want to change it if thats the case

    • Yes it's showing 27k points which is more than I have atm

    • Thanks ,fixed it.

Such a gross and very basic mistake from Flybuys. I thought they should have learned something after all these data breaches. Any web developer learns to maintain a 'session' in their first course of web development, so this should not have happened.

  • This deal is targeted.

  • I don't get the excitement about flybuys, I've been using it for 10years and only got maybe the equivalent of $200 dollars worth of points. I even scan it when buying stuff at Bunnings.

I got more in a year using my NAB reward credit card…

    • I do the 10,000 point challenges during the year, across a couple of accounts for my family and would get about $400 a year of essentially free grocery money.

    • +1

Find that hard to believe - Flybuys offer so many promotions with spend x get y points that knocking up a couple hundred dollars worth of points annually is relatively trivial.

      • Plus collect Credit Card / QFF points on top of that as well

Only when you go on the app and enable them, quite annoying in my opinion.

Also I suppose you only gets points when you shop > $100 but I'm living next to Coles in the city, I almost never do big shopping but a few small every week.

Last time I bought a $400 item at Bunnings and got 400 points. How much do you guys spent to earn $400 every year?! 🤔

        • +2

Only when you go on the app and enable them

          Yes, that would help

Also I suppose you only gets points when you shop > $100

No, it's not necessarily more than $100, mine is often $50 or $70

How much do you guys spent to earn $400 every year?!

Enable the bonuses you find annoying.

Have multiple accounts : you > the wife > the mistress > the dog > the cat. This way they all get offers and you keep your spend low. You will then have 'cool downs' where you are not spending and the flybuys offers are then small. May seem complex but once set-up it is just dead easy. Points are also after tax dollars equivalent. Then do same with Woolworths.

        • We just had several months when the offers were for a $30 spend.

    • lol had over 300k flybuys at one point

it was a lot easier back in the day when Coles credit card was uncapped. Now limited to $3000 per month/ 6000 points.

I easily accrue about $500-1000 per year depending on quality of offers and if they are things i would normally buy (i don’t buy things if they’re not stuff i would use or want just for bonus points).

For example, this week is the final week of a 4 week offer where if you spend over $X per week for 4 weeks then you earn 10k flybuys points which is equivalent to $50. I run two accounts (one for my household and one for my parents). Their offer was $70 and mine was $50. So i did a split shop every week spending that amount (i try to cap it at <$2 over that amount to avoid the offers next round jacking up their minimum spend). So essentially over the past 4 weeks I’ve spent roughly $125/week x4 =$500 for 20,000 points return (which is $100 worth). I also pay using discounted coles gift cards but that’s a separate saving.

They tend to run these offers at least 3 times a year so I’m easily accumulating $300 alone from this let alone other bonus offers that sometimes stack with this e.g. the other week i had an extra offer for an extra 1,200 points and the minimum spend was less than the $50 spend for this offer so was just extra icing on the cake.

I only buy things when on sale/half price except for certain staples that never discount and leave my dry goods stock up that are never on sale for these offers e.g. rolled oats, white vinegar, certain frozen veg etc

As others have said, the only way it becomes 'profitable' is when you are able to complete the points challenges and you make use of as many sources as possible. For example Optus and HCF also offer Flybuys, Coles insurance and their mechanics offer Flybuys as well. The big one used to be the Coles credit card because you could earn points on every dollar you spent using it in addition to any regular points, but they've now put a limit on that.

When I was in uni was in a sharehouse with 6 people and I was in charge of collecting everyone's share of the electricity and gas bill and paying it, however at the point in time AGL was also offering Flybuys points so I was collecting a significant amount each month just from that.

But with any points system, the moment you start modifying your behaviours/shopping habits in order to collect points it nearly always becomes unprofitable/negates any benefits of the program. As with anything, if you're not the customer then you're the 'product' in that the data collection alone is invaluable, but I also believe (not based on any evidence) that companies would be paying a fee for the privilege of being able to offer Flybuys points and possibly even access customer data (for example Bunnings/Officeworks)/would pay a fee when they aquire new customers who link their Flybuys in the sign up process (for example HCF/Optus).

  • I got a whopping 3x points for every flybuys dollar I spend.
