There is a 900. Is this 700 really good?

    • +1

It was very good until 900 is out

  • How does it perform without the Bass module? It costs another $1200.

    • Yup really want to know too.

    • Decent review in rtings. Not too bad at this price.

      • +1

From that looks like need bass module too for watching movie

    • +2

Gutless. It makes a huge difference.

      • +3

Yup I will pass because no subwoofer. $1100+ for speaker system too much for me

    • +11

If you are in that budget range, suggest checking out the LG SP8YA sound bar for less at $509 (RRP $849) or less if with gift cars, etc going around

It includes a subwoofer and additional format support.

LG SP8YA compared to the Bose 700 soundbar: https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/tools/compare/bose-smart-sou…

      Myer clearance sale: https://www.myer.com.au/p/lg-312ch-440w-dolby-atmos-soundbar…

I suggest also checking other reviews besides RTINGS as well as listening prior to purchase. The Bose has some nice features such as room tuning that many reviewers either do not test as part of their methodology or the sound could be completely different in the room compared to the buyers.

    • You should be able to get the Bass Module for $800 and change.

    • +1

It is pretty average without the Bass Module.
I bought the soundbar first but had to add the Bass Module as the standalone audio performance was lacklustre.

Bass Module is $900 at Bose Partner Portal.

    • It performs really really well, a very noticeable upgrade from even the best TV speakers. With that said, the bass module is worth every cent imo. Even if you don't buy them together straight away.

Purchased them both about 5 years ago - so glad I did. Never had an issue.

    • Without the bass module, it sounds like a cheap speaker. Was at cousin place when he set his one up and not yet link the sub somehow. My ears were complaining !

  • Can I connect a Telstra TV or Google TV box to this or any Soundbar that has Bluetooth? My TV doesn't have bluetooth so was just wondering if there is way to avoid wiring it up to the TV

    • +4

Connect it to your tv via optical or HDMI that way anything on the tv is passed to the soundbar

  • +1

Boo, no analog in, so no audio from the record player. :(

    • +1

Sorry but what's the point of going from analogue to a digital soundbar may as well just stream music from spotify..

    • +1

RCA to optical cable would sort this out, no?

      • +1

Yes. Plenty of good quality Optical/RCA/Optical (or vice versa) around. Usually around $20.00. See attached link for a sample list of devices from Amazon AU. I have an unknown brand unit that can connect my Bose QC #3 Bluetooth head phones to my audio system which has no Bluetooth. Easy no fuss connection.

        https://www.amazon.com.au/s?k=RCA+to+optical+audio+converter…

Like most quality consumer electronics manufacturers like Sony, Samsung et al, Bose has joined the throng in removing 'legacy' ports and just limiting to HDMI, composite video etc. and nothing else. I am keeping an older 2006 Sony Bravia TV because it still has EVERYTHING (port-wise) and a glass screen with no dead pixels. It just won't die :)

      • Yeah, missed that it offered an optical input.

Edit: After some googling, "Optical input overrides HDMI input and is not selectable as a separate input"
        Back in the fail box.

    • It would need an analog (rca port) for every channel it can handle . Hence Bose decided to drop it I would say.

      • No, these usually mix to stereo for legacy analog input.

  • +1

Get this plus the bass module 500 from amazon for $515 and not regret streaming songs or watching a movie!

    • Sorry wait, where? Link pls

Bose Bass Module 500, Black https://amzn.asia/d/ckLFGXS

        • Ah whoops. Misread your comment and thought you mentioned combo price! My bad

  • I had one of these. Absolutely loved it. Upgraded to the 900.

    Spared code: 92TK0Y6J0AXF44

    • How it perform without bass module ?

      • +1

        Like every soundbar without. Average.

      • Sorry, I wouldn't know. I got it and the Bass Module 700 at the same time.

  • World's best sound bar?

What's it like in comparison to the Sony flagship (HT-A7000 iirc)?

    • +4

It's not even the world's best, it is designed to be. So could be dead last.

      • +3

        Gotta love the marketing BS.

  • +2

Boo not available anywhere in Sydney, not even delivery.

    • +1

Amazon AU usually have them and Bose AU also has an Australian shop. Wait a month and you MAY see some 'Black Friday' or pre-Christmas sales specials. I wend this would recommend the Bose units over any of the cheaper brands. Remember, the audio output is purely subjective to whether YOU like it, regardless of brand.

  • Would this work well as just a home speaker? Or would peopler recommend a different speaker for the 600-800 price range?

I have a harman kardan citation soundbar which I think has better reviews from what I can see (although if people vehemently disagree then perhaps this would be the better soundbar).

  • How does this compare to a Sonos (Beam/Arc)? In terms of sound, but also connectivity/ecosystem?

    • +2

Some JB Hi-Fi stores may carry both brands. Check them out for yourself. Audio quality is purely subjective and limited to what the buyer prefers. Ignore the marketing and fan-boy hype. (Having tested both in the past, I purchased Bose because the sound quality suited me better).

  • Great deal this one

  • My code 92P8YCTGBAT5CX if anyone wants it!

Please read reviews on Amazon before buying, few people have raised issues.

    • +1

I never trust the reviews on Amazon. They always remind me of the T.V. show "The I.T. Crowd", that memorable line '…have you tried turning it of and then on, have you checked to make sure it is plugged in?'. You would be surprised how often this occurs in real life.

  • Would not touch Bose again - Have Soundtouch 300 with Bass module - main unit died a little over 12 months with VERY occasional use. Bass module died too after about 18 months. When it works it sounds great but for that kind of money you expect to not need to repair it within 2 years of light use.

Is it even a Good price?

  • +1

Need a newer version of a Yamaha 5600 with multiple inputs, latest audio formats, etc

  • +2

BOSE Buy Other Sound Equipment.. lol

  • I have a powered sub already, can that be connected to this rather than get a base module?

  • I have this soundbar for over 2 years, while the sound is good, be wary that you will not be able to do anything without the remote control (if you ever change wifi, etc.), and mine just went kaput a few months ago. I had to pay $100 from their website to get the replacement.

    • You can use your phone as a remote?
I haven't unwrapped my remote yet, works fine without it.

      • If somehow you've changed your wifi settings then you're pretty much out of luck without the remote.

        • Reset the sound bar after wifi change?

Samsung Q930B is $900 which is 9.1.4 and ATMOS

I'm rocking the Yamaha YSP 5600bmk2 and shit slaps. Get one second hand if you can, pretty sure its better than any of these new ones

  • Can I connect my own subwoofer to this?

  • Its a shame the Bose 900 removed the spotify etc features

  • Does this have chromecast built in? I googled and said it has Alexa and Google Assistant but not sure if it means Chromecast. Anyone can confirm? Thank you

    • I can confirm that you can cast to it as a Chromecast speaker. It has Google Assistant too (Not sure about Alexa as I use Google). However, it does not support playing from Youtube Music directly (I.e. Hey google play music on Bose from Youtube Music). But you can cast Youtube Music from your phone. It supports Spotify and I think Apple Music directly.

Nothing beats Bose and Apple in marketing bullshit and overpricing. World's best? Rofl. The discounted price should be the original price

  • Pretty much unobtainable now, only Darwin and Hobart show stock.

  • Wonder if its worth cash to fork out for the Q930 or Q990 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/731803
