  • Can this replace my nbn??

    • Hotspotting (tethering) is permitted from your mobile phone to your other personal devices only. It isn't a substitute for a home internet service.

      • Only 30gb data for hotspot on the ultra plan

        Hotspot data
Extra 30GB Hotspot Max Speed data for hotspotting (tethering) from your mobile phone to your other personal devices only. It isn’t a substitute for a home internet service. Once you’ve used 30GB Hotspot data, you can continue to use Hotspot data at speeds of up to 2Mbps. 2Mbps is great for browsing, social media and streaming music. Not suitable for HD video

        • The 30gb tether restriction isn’t enforced in AU - as I was told by a rep and can testify from experience now too. The app does not even make provision for it! I think it’s to stop overseas excessive use of data

Also cant share data on this plan either, making the 500gb+30gb data sim an awesome deal as it qualifies for the 5% discount <$71 a month and 530 full speed data then 10mbs and 1.5mbs

      • I've be using tethered phones for my home internet since Jan 2020. Presently using about 300GB/month.

It's not perfect, but it can work.

      • Hotspotting and tethering are NOT the same.

My Android phone shows three separate and separately configurable connection options. Personal hotspotting, bluetooth tethering, and USB tethering. I have my other phone personal hotspotted to my main phone, and my router which connects to my LAN with my PCs on it USB tethered to it.

If the phones companies want to limit you to 30GB/month connected they have to say that, or say hotspotted AND tethered.

    • I use it for everything ;)

      • What kind of speed do you get with a 5g hot spot?

        • 250mbps depending on the time of day

          • @shaunyc: Upload speed?

            • @GhatT: At the moment it is peak time where I live and the speed is 150Mbps download and 10Mbps upload. I will try an off peak one later

              • @shaunyc: So I tested at 7.30am this morning and it was 323Mbps download and 77Mbps upload

For mobile internet, felix is better .
20Mbps all day, everyday and go through lots of TBs of data per month

    • Yes, it is a great value plan too! This one has 5g access

      • Felix is capped at 20Mbps, so 5G doesn't really matter on their plan. The average Joe or a single household can easily live off the Felix plan.

        • Been living on this for 2 years, 3 devices connected at the same time. No lag or buffering.

Constant 20/20 95% of the time

  • Does it work with a portable pocket wifi router.
    Great deal nevertheless

You are not meant to but you could use it in a secondary phone with hotspot

Get a high end asus router with usb port and use tether from android phone.

        Im using a AC86U but a AC68U also works

        • Or a cheaper router with Openwrt to do the same. May not be as intuitive.

          • @johnt107: Asus are good if you want to build your mesh.
Also signal is fantastic. I have the above , live in a full brick home and have full signal all along my 550m2 block right up to next side of street

Both routers cost me $60 from facebook marketplace and phone $10 (sony xperia)

I actually sold my old vivid modem for $50 as felix eventually picked up on me using a modem and bought the above

        • Do you tether your android phone to router via usb?

        • I also use the Asus RT-AC86U router but with a 4G USB dongle connected to the USB port

  • How does the shopback "up to 68.25% cashback for sim only month to month plans" work with this? Is it that percentage per month or only for the 1st month?

    Thanks

    • First month only and takes ~5months to pay out

  • I signed up to the 250gb plan yesterday. Got an email straight after saying a credit check is underway. Was about 24hrs ago and I haven’t heard anything since. Is there a big delay in credit checks at the moment since the Optus debacle?

This was to switch from away from Optus, which I’ve cancelled already so no working sim for me at the moment.

  • "m away from Optus, which I’ve cancelled already so no working "

Let's hope Voda aren't waiting on the all clear from Optus that they'll send once you respond to the confirmatory text message they sent you on the service you no longer have…

  • I t..n. V…p.n. Is .bs..e r…sh i. t..s …n.ry

Sorry, must be my reception with Vodafail, lucky I just switched on to my wifi.

  • I hope the AcCC so the Telstra and tPG/vHA tie up deal

  • I thought Vodafone is no more. Or is that virgin mobile?

    • +1

Virgin Mobile is no more…that was Optus
