Looks like a good deal, the RAM could do with doubling though.

    • and latter on can upgrade to Windows 8 for just around 20 bucks ;)

I think the 14" is better value http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC8182/14-quot-toshiba-satel…

Same video card, smaller HDD, dual core instead of quad but it's $300 less

    • would be cool with normal tasks like homework, browsing net and office but 320GB HDD would urge you to fork out some money for upgrade very soon after though ;), plus a core i7 quad-core CPU is far more 2x faster and can handle with more heavy tasks if needed such as games and video editing. it depends really on the need and budget :)

    • That's 2nd gen processor. This is 3rd.

Very good price for the specs. just add more ram and a very good machine. I've previously owned a Toshiba and had no problems currently have a HP and I regret it.

    2.4kg not all that bad

    • HA! nah dude, I went in store cause I thought the same thing and figured it'd be perfect for uni, but the Toshiba specs are actually from 2.4kg i.e. without the battery (probably pumped full of helium too, because the model I looked at was also listed as 2.4kg but felt much heavier and that was sans battery)

      stupid comment.

  • ppl are quick to diss Toshiba laptops but ive had one for 7yrs+ now and its still going, sure its getting old now but its been sturdy and has done its job, provided you take care of it of course as it would be the same with any laptop but ive never had any major problems with TOshiba at all.

Im currently in the market for one for my inlaws and looking at the L750 series and find the prices from Dick Smith very cheap compared to other places.

    • Toshiba are listed top of reliability and customer satisfation surveys, along with ASUS and Sony. That said though, I bought an ASUS in April and am returning it for refund now, as the keyboard and touchpad regularly stop working and the warranty team in Sydney are dumber and more useless than a box of hair.

      • I used to own an Asus laptop and sent it back for repair twice within 2 years warranty period. After two years, the lid cover started to crack. I had no luck with the Asus laptop which was poorly design. I have always been happy with my Toshiba (own two so far) laptop which lasts 4 years+.

        • Completely agree with the Toshiba.

Still prefer my old Toshiba Pentium Dual Core after giving up on my Asus I7 which has been back to repair 3 times now and barely used in well over a year - and they've asked me to send it back again - much more productive to buy a new computer and give up on the Asus.

        • Totally agree Asus warranty is useless, their turn around time is way more than they say and they never return calls either. You have to be a complete psychopath to actually get through to anyone who has enough grey matter to help you, and even then they're patronising and unhelpful Of the two months I've had this computer they've had it for more than 5 weeks, despite a "5-10 working day turn around" (3 1/2 weeks) and promises that the second time I sent it in it'd be looked at immediately (1 1/2 weeks) after which they hadn't fixed a single goddamn thing
I was thrilled to buy my computer because they have such a good reputation but was totally let down and couldn't condemn them enough. Sticking with Toshiba all the way (my old 5kg bruiser is a champ despite being dropped from heights repeatedly over the course of 4 years) although I may be swayed by a seductive Sony

        • How are you managing to get it refunded after 2 months?

If it's any help, Consumer Affairs advised me that if they couldn't repair it the first time then the buyer is entitled to ask for a refund (but you'd need to double check that with CA as the IT shop said it had to go back 3 times).

I've wasted far too much time with the Asus, my experience, demand a refund from the start and cut the losses early.

  • Most people won't need a i7 cpu.
This Toshiba i5 is a good deal $585 delivered -
