[Back Order] Breville the Barista Express Impress Coffee Machine - Stainless Steel $757 Delivered @ Appliances Online

30

I hadn't really been looking at upgrading from my trusty (and still making great coffee) Sunbeam EM7000 machine and EM0480 grinder right now but the great reviews coupled with the excellent price on the stainless steel model pushed me to pull the trigger tonight on this new Breville model.

The site shows as out of stock but you can do as I just did and purchase anyway and you'll receive in 14 days, optionally request to be notified if they come back into stock sooner.

  • Is this better than the Barista Pro?

    • +1

"Better" is subjective but for me I rate highly the consistency you get with a machine that measures out the dose for you as well as a tamping lever (less mess of spilt coffee grounds too).

So for me the answer is "yes" :-)

      • So what would you recommend as the best under $2k?

        • My response to JV is also relevant here

          • @maverickjohn: Would you get the barista touch instead if you had no spare space for a grinder?

            • +1

@jaygee: For things that matter the pro and touch are the same. Grinder /bean hopper is the same' thermojet instead of thermocoil for frother.
The main difference is customisable presets and auto frothing.
If you value that then get the touch.
For an all in one system breville is still probably the best.
But the best is still not great when compared to separate grinder and machine.
You are limited to a mediocre bean hopper and grinder which is the most important item in coffee making.
I had the oracle which has more settings than these ones and found it a waste of money.
If you start with a barista pro and one day upgrade to a niche grinder or something you would have a very decent set up.

              • @maverickjohn: Oh, you'd rate the barista pro over the barista touch and/or dual boiler?

                • +1

@jaygee: Nope definitely not. Just saying if you want a decent start up. The pro is more affordable for an all in one.the touch is only really useful as an upgrade if you fancy the touch screen with programmable options and auto frothing.
The dual boiler is by far the best but by default also takes the most space as you need a separate grinder from the start.
The pro is a just a really good all in one without bank breaking price tag. Your next upgrade from there should be a good grinder such as niche zero. And then when you can, upgrade to something like a dual boiler or e61.

Id probably just save for the breville dual boiler and get the mignon specialita
With that combo. You wouldn't really consider these, unless bench space is an issue

Tempting. Looks like a good machine from the reviews.

For anyone who gets this, these single use vouchers should work. $30 off.

  • Need opinions from people… something like this or a full auto like the DeLonghi Magnifa Evo ECAM29083TB?

    • The more control you have. The better the coffee will be. Dont let a machine control dosing etc if you can avoid it. Human error is better than machine error with coffee making as you learn and grow with each mistake . A machine doesn't. (These dont have neural networks)
So my opinion is this is better than delinghi by a long shot. But still nothing compared to BDB and grinder combo

If you need to ask, I'd say the full auto thing, as it doesn't seem you want to get involved in the manual process enough.

Yet, if you can be excited (not just bothered) about the more manual process, this this thing all the way.

      • It's not quite as you think. I currently have a fully manual machine, albeit a 'crappy' one. Yet I have learnt quite a few things on it.

My purpose was to get people's insights on the differences.

Don't get me wrong, I am fully aware that a manual (pretty much anything) will always be better than auto. But I wanted to weigh up the advantages/disadvantages.

        • That's a broad discussion, as you are aware, and it's hard to decide on your behalf.

I'd go for the manual, even to have the milk steamed the way I need/like, not like the machine steams it.
