  • Not bad for a low budget gaming laptop. Although that RTX3050Ti running at 75W does not look very promising.

  • +1

There is MSI Laptop Katana GF66 11UE for $1,279 if you after higher GPU performance (RTX 3060)

    • Would this be a good deal for a gaming laptop? Or do you think there will be better deals on black friday?

  • Considering nitro 5 3060 deals are at this price I dont see it a deal. The G5 also gets no better build quality nor cooling than the Nitro 5 to justify paying the same $ for less. This is not a Gigabyte design but a Clevo chasis - an aged Clevo chasis at that (different lid design on that Metabox but the overall chasis design and cooling solution is identical.

    • So why wouldn't you just get a Metabox then?

      • If I had 1.2k max budget I would wait for a Nitro 5 deal?

I only listed the metabox link to show how outdated this gigabyte chasis is

        • I mean yeah, right, you recommend the nitro 5 okay - but why do you recommend that over a Metabox?

I've not had an Acer laptop for a decade but it (a semi budget model) fell apart quickly, whereas my Metabox (using the chassis before that one we were just talking about) is holding up okay, more or less.

          • @Grazz989: Because its much cheaper for similiar specs. Metabox is great - Ive used them before Clevo ruined their lower-mid end models. But there just isnt much point to them when a base 3060 rig cost a good 500-600 dollars more than the Nitro 5 deals - sure, a point could be made that the metabox ones have better cpu, but games are much more gpu bound then they are cpu bound and in the end for most people the incentive of better qc and better cpu does not justify the price hike.

            • @Brrrrt: Okay - fair points. How big is the QC difference? I think for a lot of people, including me, QC is quite important. Having a laptop that's 20% better value but lasts 50% as long is not what I would call good value.

              • @Grazz989: not that big. its just that metabox are assembled here so with steps like thermal paste application and well putting in the whole machine together they tend to be more attentive but apart from that not really. the chasis mobo and everything is shipped from chinese factories. With nitro 5 since they make it much larger batches on the assembly line more errors may occur. But its nothing a rma cant fix if you happen to have a bad unit.

                • @Brrrrt: Fair. I'd probably be replacing the thermal paste with liquidmetal anyway haha!
