I wonder if there'll be a lot of 1300-1600w psus going on sale now that mining is dead and a 4090 can quite comfortably run on an 850w psu (but might still catch on fire though lol)?

The possible fire is related to the adapter cable supplied with the GPU. Get a better quality one and ensure you have the space in the case to avoid bending any cables and you should be just fine.

      • why don't they use 4 * 8 pin sockets in thr card itself without that 16 pin adapter?

    • I'm going to use my 850w coolermaster psu for 4090 or amd equivalent eventually when price come back down to earth.

The reference 7000 card needs just 2X8 pin connector. So AMD does not even need more than a 650W PSU unless you OC like crap and have a 12/13900K

  • According to Tomshardware:

The V1300 is based on an aged platform which needs upgrades to match up to more contemporary designs. The overall performance is 5-7% lower than other high-end PSUs which might have 100W less, but also come with notably lower price tags.

The platform of the V1300 is exactly the same with the one used by the Antec HCP-1300, which was released almost five years ago.

  • 1.3 kilowatt, Jesus that’s as much as my house uses. I remember when a cpu could be cooled with just a cylinder of metal

1.21 Gigawatts! Great Scott! Do you know what this means?!?
