  I beleive these are good for running TrueNAS, so an option for a really solid NAS OS that should have good support for quite some time to come.

      TrueNAS will use any available RAM for ARC cache, remember, free ram is wasted ram :P

      TrueNAS should work with 8GB, as long as deduplication is not activated.

      It might work with a 16GB kit.

      Synology also use the same Intel Celeron J3455 CPUs in their DS line. Even though the maximum is stated as 8GB (even Intel ARK says as much), it still works with 16GB, it's just not officially supported. Might be the same case here.
