        It is optimised for Minecraft.

1080p and Intel CPU. So archaic! I hope it is a TN panel so that recipe is complete.

    • Well, then get 128GB. The upgrade is only a bit over $2800

    • The Dell website claims you can get up to a NVIDIA RTX A5500 graphics chip in in this laptop! That is where most of the cost has went.

That is no ordinary graphics chip, if you were John Carmack and were blasted into space and suddenly needed to do some new AI compute machine learning, training, modelling with newly obtained data then this laptop would be a life saver.

  • Price? For businesses and government and not tight people

umm.. hello .. you in the right place ?

    • +1

Well that's the premium you get for getting spied by the NSA instead of the commies ey? C'mon, precision laptops beat all HP and Lenovo's offerings by a thousand miles in terms of touch and speakers.

      • Touch and speakers? :-D well.. good on you

        • +1

You have obviously never used a $5000 zbook for work. You can good on me all you like but i can assure you that there is a difference.

          • @BeoWulf: I am sure you have and I am sure there is …like I said good for you.. wrong club pal.. a few years too early maybe … Id rather have the commies spying on me and make a living :-D

          • +1

@BeoWulf: To be fair, you're probably the only one here using a $5000 zbook for work. Actually you're probably the only one anywhere using a $5000 zbook for anything

Feel free to take that as a compliment or an insult

@fleetfeather: This is tongue in cheek at CBA and the state gov's based on experience. If i was to reveal the amount things that was happening, a full investigation would be occuring at the extent of corruption that occurs at these companies and the facade of threats that they like to instigate. I am part of a contingent of tens of thousands of employees that use these business laptops which is a small drop in the ocean when they make billions net profit each year.

I also own the precision laptop can truthfully say that it's build is better than most overpriced business laptops.

          • @BeoWulf: Used a Zbook. It was heavy AF, and they had bugger all linux support. Would not get again.

    • You mean the place where people seem unfazed by GPUs priced at 4 figures?

      And it's still non-touch :p

      • Touch screen is overrrated :p Chasis sturdiness is where it's at.

    • wow. you just made more than a grand!

    • Seems like a no brainer with that discount.

I need my spreadsheets at 144hz

    • They do scroll like butter at 144hz

    • If i aint scrolling at 144Hz in notepad. Then im not interested.

For this price you could build 3 desktops with RTX3080 and never need to carry a laptop with you. One at work, one for WFH and one for the mistress' place :p

I don't get the point of such hardware.. For 99% of people, when u need a machine like this you're sitting at a desk anyway

    • Mass updates for thousands of laptop's at the same time and security. You also get the NSA spying you instead of CCP if that matters. Optus and Telstra leaking your details as an additional benefit.

    • Portability is key, data management on one machine is easier than on three, workstation gpu > gaming gpu, ease of deployment for several hundred employees (configuration control).

      • Our profiles are on the cloud or a server. We have no issue with them or deployment.

I mean what's $4k saved per person for several hundred employees? Only a million dollars..

I was going to write something funny, but I think the price has any humour I can come up with well beaten 😂

  • Bought 1, think later….maybe return later!

  • +3

If you can afford this thing, do your research before you buy!

    1. The CPU technically only has 8 P cores.
    2. Base TDP is 55w, with a max of 157w. Good luck with this chassis keeping it cool. It's thermal throttles very quickly.
    3. It's a desktop replacement with a massive power brick, which is going be needed to be plugged in all the time as battery life will be very short.
    • I thought today is Fools'day. Bought 1 anyway!

  • Wow! There's room for 4 SSDs. Bought 1.

  • +2

    @Muzeeb any further discounts?

      Best price is $713.89

I had one of these a while ago.

Lasted nearly ten years, only stopped using it because the drivers were getting flakey and I think the quadro was starting to die.

Very well built machine. Wish they had incorporated heatsink access hatches - had to tear it all down at least twice to clean them.

  • Just for 7k? I would like -1 of them please

  • +1

If this was apple you would get half of all of that spec for double the price.

16‑inch MacBook Pro with M1 Max, 32-Core GPU, 64GB memory and 2TB SSD is cheaper at $6,449.

    • +1

I know you're joking but the MBP with M1 Max is $5500. It also has a screen that is about a billion times better.

      • I know you're joking

        Glad someone gets it.

  • +1

When can I get my this refurbished at a fraction of the cost?

  • 1738 pls

  • coincidentally my workstation is about to be replaced with something at about this price. I think I'd prefer this.

  • I truly wonder what the sale numbers are like for dell. Options for all ranges and purposes. This is like the $1M lemonade stand. You just need to sell one (or a few).

  • Have 15" model (of course didn't buy it personally, it is a work laptop), and the battery life is 1.5-2h
