Been looking around for gaming laptops and stumbled across this… Not sure if it's recurring or whether to HODL for Black Friday but from looking into the laptop it seems very good for its build quality and performance. Did notice the other 20% deal for Lenovo but didn't mention the Legion Pro 5… First deal post, be nice :)

I would start waiting for RTX4*** laptops.

    • +20

It will be a while and won’t be cheap when it launches

    • +23

You can wait all you want they're not gonna be cheap, not even the basic low wattage versions probably for first 6 months if not longer.

Have no idea why people trip in their mind that latest is the greatest and a significant, noticeable upgrade over their current hardware.

Entire consumerism industry across all fields has become mental as end of the world is just around the corner, time gaps between new and old models are shrinking, barely any differences, just something new is needed to be presented to the stock owners so you keep them with you etc. Ridiculousness

      • -2

        Nitros will be cheap.

        • +9

It's like you didn't even read or understand at all what I've written…. Competition who will reply first.

Nitros are cheap, because Nitros are weak 💩, they're the low wattage graphics laptops.

          • +4

            @drazenm: not to mention 1080p! so 2010.

            • +7

@hippo2s: It's laughable seriously it's all laughable. We didn't adopt yet to 4K clowns already started pushing 8K!
We don't have yet hardware for general consumership at reasonable pricing for 4k 120Hz at least and it's been how many years 4K is around? Nor does anyone play video games at 4K resolution 60 and above frames in general yet.

              • +2

                @drazenm: Im still on 1080 with a 3070 😂😂

              • +2

@drazenm: yeah i was just wondering the other day, shocking to find out that even the best GPUs out there could barely do 4K gaming at 60fps for demanding titles

              • @drazenm: Speak for yourself bud.

          • @drazenm: Agreed, my previous laptop (which is now dead, hence why I'm looking for a new one) was a Nitro 5, definitely cheap but you can tell where they cheaped out on.

      • +1

The 4000 series is a joke just to make 3000 series look good the amd xtx card though are hot

      • I love your comment. It's so True Detectivy

    • +7

and when prices eventually come down to reasonable levels ie. after 6 months post-release - "I would start waiting for RTX 5XXX laptops"

  • Looks great for money, I got my Legion last year on Black Friday sale using my student status.
    Absolutely love it!
If you are a student or know a student I think Lenovo educational store does some great deals on the black friday weekend.
Remember you have a few days to make up your mind… Providing stock does not sell out of course.
    Happy hunting 😃

  • +2

This is the better option to the current Nitro deals, if you must have a gaming laptop nowish. Otherwise hold for for another year for RDNA3 laptop deals

  • -1

is this enough for twitch gaming?

    • uhmm… what's that? you mean do twitch streams plus play a game at the same time? depends on what you play.

I would add more RAM and storage …

  • +2

this is pretty good! I got the 3070 model when it was 20% off and absolutely loving it.

  • It is a recurring thing, have one in the mail coming can't wait

    • Cheers, was wondering whether to wait for Black Friday deals.

      • +1

I was thinking to wait too but it's very hard to know if they gonna discount them so I just pulled the trigger, it's a solid deal I'll say

  • +2

I finally got around to trying L5P and I am really happy with it. I got the next gen though, L5i Pro with i7-12700H and 3070Ti. it's a beast

the build isn't the best out there, I mean it's better than Acer Nitro 5 and Acer Helios 300, but it's certainly no match for Razer Blade, they are much more solid

keyboard is great, but I expect per key RGB backlight at this price

screen is awesome, especially with overdrive turned on.

extra nvme slot under the hood for easy storage expansion, and neither of 2 ram planks are soldered on, easy upgrade

  • +3

Word on the street is 3070 version will be about this price on black friday

    • -1

Laptop 3070's don't pack much more performance than the 3060.

      • Will hold value better though, better off waiting imo

        • +1

Windows computers and holding value… I don't think people buy Windows computers with future value in mind.

Maybe… potentially… if you upgrade yearly maybe.

      • Depends on the game. Average is 15% more performance but for some it's much more. Makes sense to wait for a 3070 if you ask me.

They haven't re-stocked since last deal…think they'll get more in? I figured they had run them all out by now. You have a source or just guessing?

Problem with Legion/Chinese stuff is the lack of firmware updates. For example I have both a dell and a legion and the dell has many firmware/bios updates whereas the legion only has one so far!!!

    • +4

If there is nothing to fix you don't even need to update firmware. Most of the time bios updates are to address security flaws or glaring issues with power/fan management. Since I've got my Legion 7 last year I have updated my bios 3 times.

Honestly if you don't have issues with a current bios you are far better off not updating as sometimes they can limit performance or break something else in the process.

Speaking of bios updates literally a new bios update dated 28th Oct 2022. My current bios is from June.

Here is a list of my Legion 7 bioses up to April 22, there has been 3 more since then.

      https://laptopwiki.eu/files/bios/Lenovo/AMD/2021%20Legion%20…

My launch Legion 7 came with 34WW bios, so technically if you count that there has been 11 bios updates since June 2021 when I bought the laptop. Yeh Lenovo definitely don't support their bioses… lol

      • -5

Most of the time bios updates are to address security flaws…

Lots of security holes in Lenovo then!

        • +3

You clearly have no clue what you are on about, just admit you are a Dell fanboy and move on.

My statement for bios updates are industry wide not just Lenovo, talk about attacking a strawman.

Here is the latest Lenovo bios changelog:

          2.Add

          3.Modified

          3) Enhancement to address security vulnerability CVE-2022-26316/26346

          EC Notification :

          1) None
          2. Add
          1) Add support 135W square AC
          3. Modified
          1) Solve the problem of GPU intermittent frequency and power reduction after update BIOS

Here is the latest Alienware x15/x17 bios changelog

Guess what, security flaws too. Actually the last 4 bios updates from Dell from June 2022 has been Critical updates aka security flaws.

          Educate yourself, stop being ignorant.

Kind of funny you downvoted when I didn't even downvote, but okay, I'll return the favour.

just admit you are a Dell fanboy and move on.

            OK Lenovo fanboy

            • +1

@MuddyClear: Tell me which part is fanboying, clutching at straws buddy.

  • Is it really the case that new gen mobile chips are v expensive at launch ? My experience has been that they just replace the old ones at similar launch price

  • +2

Yes mum, I need this for studying!

  • Just in time. Only gripe it will be good if there is option to upgrade to 32gig or atleast with 1 -16gb so can purchase another one.

I was not clear with TRS. ATM i'm living in OS and my friend is willing to bring it for me. To claim TRS, purchase has to be on his name. In that case, warranty of product is registered to his name or I can claim in case of any issues as it linked with the device?

Also is it having secondary storage is 2.5" Sata or m2?

  • +1

Hi fellas, any thought with this one? It is good deal or nah? Was looking for L5P with 3070 which i miss last time which is around 1.9k

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/394194396553?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

  • I got Lenovo 16p with the same specs but more business look and I'm extremely happy… I think the difference is in the cooling, it would've been more capable in the gaming laptop but I only play games occasionally so I don't care that much. I also paid around the same for the 16p (reduced from $3200 😁)

    • thanks for the feedback.. how is it productivity wise? im looking to get one for work/study and to also do some light gaming on the side.. still deciding whether to get this or the intel NUC X15..

      • my NUC X15 is on its way for delivery today! excited to set it up

      • This would have a better screen and more battery life than nuc x15, although the nuc is $1300+extra ram and SSD. The new Nuc must be just around the corner as Intel's cutoff date for shipping is Nov 9, and it is marked as launched on Intel's website.

      • I'm hoping current 11th gen NUCs are going to drop on black Friday… If they do or not is anyone's guess though.

      • +1

it's amazing, especially for the price I paid… On top of the basic specs, it's got a superb display, a very high-quality finish (I love the aluminum case), battery life is very decent although I don't work that much on a battery, but you'll get few hours out of it easily… I really don't see any downsides to that laptop.

        • thx mate.. hoping it drops down a bit more during Black Friday

  • Please tell me I'm no the only one who read the promo code as SLAVOZ

  • Does anyone know whether this laptop is good for training machine learning models? Thank you

  • Hi all, sorry I have a noob question. I got thinkpad that I have been using from last 4 years. Have a lot of files and work stuff on it and was wondering if I can transfer all my things from it to this seamlessly. Thank you

  • I'm tempted

It's annoying because the other Lenovo have the latest Gen CPU, but you can't upgrade the ram.

I want a work/study laptop that I can do music production too.

    Frustrating!

I only game on PS5, so no real need for the GPU.

  • +3

Hmmm was looking at gaming laptops recently and i can pick up an asus rog strix g15 g512lw with a 2070 for $900, would that be a better grab then spending $800 extra for the 3060 and warranty etc? Didnt want to spend a ton.

    • +2

iirc a 2070 does outperform a 3060 (or on par), I've had a look at the asus strixes and they seem very decent. If you're saving almost 50% on the laptop then I'd go for the strix, although a link would help give a better idea of why exactly it's $900 (very good price).

      • +1

For $900 it’s not going to be new
