PlayStation 3 Console for $359 Online or Possibly $351 in Store at The Good Guys

17

This is Cheapest Console Price for the end of year sale, found it recently and stores are selling out very quickly online price $359 but in store they offered it for $351 Great price considering $389 at Dick Smith, $447 at Big W which is great for console only, considering I bought a PS3 160GB December last year for $249 at Dick Smith when on ozbargain last. That is double the size for only $102 a bargain I think.

Link is not working for me either as I saved it on my favorites and worked earlier today but see it on below link 3rd one down

    $351 is cheap for a 320gb ps3?

aren't you better off buying a 160gb unit for $229 and using a spare 320gb hdd to upgrade since they are pretty much basic drive units on cheap laptops these days?

    • or putting the extra cash towards a 512GB SSD :D

Seriously though, wonder if it will help much as PS3s only have SATA I
bit of a write up here about it:
      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-can-ssd-upg…
      and more info here:
      http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/ps3_hdd
      edit: after skimming those articles
doesnt seem to make much of a difference, but seems ok if you have one lying around anyway…

      • I'm considering getting a spare SSD to put in mine to deal with the XMB lag issues. Typing messages are a real pain when a lot of the keys don't register.
The only problem is that I don't know for sure that it would get rid of that lag.

But It is a risk putting your hard drive yourself as it may not work or you may do something wrong, plus you can have a 320GB HDD on purchase and not worry about hunting around for a bigger hdd especially when some places may not have stock when you need/want it.

        • +2

Geez its a matter of taking off a cover and some screws and letting the system reformat itself, if you happen to screw this up… then lol

        • -2

fair enough but i don't want to risk it, plus the screw that holds ps3 hdd has a weak thread on the head and could stuff up.

Oh wow dude, im not even going to bother.

I just hope you don't pursue any electrical/practical career when you grow up.

        • yeah no way hate electronics but I know my rights with customer relations and a game collector so I know what I want and electrical is not it

        • It is very basic, and I have already done it twice without any issues whatsoever.

I have a copy of the old "Phat" PS3 HDD with pre 3.21 firmware(PS3 3.21 firmware update stops booting into Linux). Never had that option in the slim PS3, but OK, just in case I decide to load Linux ;-)

    • I would have thought so, unless the goodguys one comes with some extras…. hard to tell at the moment as their site is down. $229 from Kmart at the moment for the bare 160Gb job, so - if you need the extra space - you have $122 to play with. For that amount, you may be able to get a suitable 750Gb hard drive that fits….. maybe even 1TB…. and then you can pull the old drive to bits and you have a couple of decent fridge magnets.

  • What?

  • might want to add the HDD size… as target/bigW are doing these for 248/249 with a game and a 160 GB hdd, which wouldnt make this one a bargain (but from your description its obviously the bigger HDD version)
also please put price in title as per posting guidlines…

link doesnt appear to be working at the moment.

    welcome to ozb.

also considering that 1TB hdds cost about 100 bux…(actually 129 at MSY) wouldnt really consider it a bargain (this comment is more directed at playstation).
also you can upgrade the HDD yourself, Sony have actually posted instructions… so stick with the 160GB version and get a HDD…read more in the WP link i've posted in the above comment.

  • the post is very confusing.. i have no idea what the price is and what version the ps3 is. Also the link does not work for me

    • $351 / 320GB

      • correct, the largest hard drive size on the current market

  • Instead of saying PS3 PlayStation 3 twice in the title perhaps stating "console" would be more appropriate.

    • thanks first time for me

    no deal

    • -3

      sorry?

    • +1

      PissLUR

      "No deal" = no vote.

Please be more specific when voting down a deal. It helps others, saves us getting moderation complaints which saves us work, and helps inform others clearly whats wrong with it. A negative vote in itself says no deal, share your wisdom and give a little more explanation. Thank you

  • +6

Not really a deal, buy a 160gb from Kmart for $229 and get a 750gb HDD for $99 from MSY if you want to upgrade

    http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=8026

    • Agreed, exactly what I was thinking

  • +3

Man are you out of the loop.

    • -8

Well no actually my housemate had a 40gb ps3 from asia and he wanted to buy the 600 or so gb hdd from msy but when he rang up was no longer in stock so he got a 500 or so gb hdd for $10 more so I woud say may not be reliable at times.

    • +4

What are you talking about? Did you miss all the other PS3 deals?
BigW, Kmart having it for $229, $248 including a game.

It's okay to make a mistake, just admit to it.

      • -2

yeah I miss it so what! Not everyone has money you know, and know one knows that there a many good games out there after buying a console in 2011, which leads to realizing more space is needed and is worried about wrecking things chooses to do things the safer way, is that really wrong? No if you can't understand that then so be it but not assume that everyone wants to risk things knows things until there hard drive becomes full quickly because every day they find a title since owning the first console.

        • +3

yeah I miss it so what!

It's actually been on the front page for a while now. If you missed that, it's still on the top right of this page. But since this is your first post, that could explain why.

Not everyone has money you know

So that's why they should spend MORE money on a 320gb PS3?

And FYI, you can report your post to the mods to have it deleted.

    • +3

      genuine

You know it's not a Sony branded HDD inside right? My grandma could swap the disk out

  • The EBgames bundle comes down to $357 if you trade in the 3 games there and then.
It's 320gb and comes with an additional controller.
    Way better than this.

    • -5

yes but not every game people like and a lot of trouble selling unwanted games at times so if you don't like it then that is cool, its just listed for anyone interested. thank you.

      • +1

There's no "trouble selling" the games - EB Games buy them back at the same time you buy their deal. As Kingboo tried to tell you, it's a much better deal because you get an additional controller for the same price. There's no haggling - you walk out of EB Games with the PS3 and 2 controllers for $357.

        • don't like eb games they ripped me off last time. they are a premium company when you can sel games more on ebay then anywhere. plus games can be bought up to half eb games prices.

        • Agreed. EB Games are crap and usually overpriced. Wouldn't stop me getting their bundle deal on this occasion though if I hadn't already bought the PS3 160GB + Uncharted 2 bundle for $248 from Big W on Saturday.

  • +1

Just use an external hard-drive if you want to watch movies on your PS3, for the $120 you'd save getting the 160GB you could get 1-2tb … No deal

    • Even NAS would be cheaper than paying the extra for the 320GB

  • jeeze guys take it easy its his first post…
tomsbicanic, there are probably better ways to go about this.. nuff said.

    • +1

He really isn't helping himself though, you said it, it is true.

      • He went down like a champ….

    • -3

exactly forget i bothered my time trying to help some families who want to get something for their kids and don't have time to fiddle around put a bigger hdd inside a console which people have told me that the screw head thread is prone to ware out and be difficult to undo or tighten. People didn't have to be so rough on information that I thought was helpful. Plus I heard from what I stated before that a housemate found it difficult from reading and youtube watching that is screw is weak and he may not be able to alter his hdd if he had to. Plus don't forget everyone if you change your hdd once a small 160gb is bough and then have issues during warranty from somewhere else in the console you will need to send it in for warranty repairs and they may ask for the original hdd inside it which could weaken the screw even more. That is all I will say. If anyone wants help fine otherwise good day.

      • You are obsessed with a stupid screw… Go and get a job at bunnings mate, your deal doesn't really help anyone. If a family wants a ps3, as cheap as possible, they are not going to care if it is 160 GB or 320GB if the price difference is over $100, believe me, the average family wouldn't even know the difference. So, thank you for trying, but it didn't work out this time. It happens to the best of us, suck it up and move on.

  • +3

Ughhh, this is painful. Let it go tombicanic. Appreciate the effort but it's not a good deal.

  • but but but but but THIS IS AS GOOD Deal! really!

    • thanks :)

      • +2

sorry dude he was taking the p…
no one has any issue with what you've posted, they are just saying that you've overly tried to defend it, everyone is just saying you should accept there are cheaper ways to do it and move on with another deal that may be a good post…good point with the screw, but mention it once and move on…

thats what the community is here for to judge posts and offer suggestions as to better ways to do something… learn from others experience rather than being stubborn and thinking what you have is the best it could possibly be!

you seem like a nice enough guy just trying to help out the community, admit defeat, accept it, then look to learn and to better your self(deals)!

        • -1

then you obviously judge a book by its cover then!

        • i accept defeaat plain and simple but I AM A PERSON WHO TRIED TO HELP, but I don't appreciate people being nasty or a being smart ass. If people have a different or preferred way fine but you don't need to rub it in someones face. Just be polite and leave a minus mark or comment thanks but no thanks. Not everyone is the same, Not everyone want to open a screw and place another so accept people and treat people how you want to be treated not have a go at them and when they say they are new change you emails or messages accordingly. I reminds me of one person who I'm living with who was very nice when first meet them but after 2 months living she is very stuck up and mean. So for anyone who does not give everyone a fair go then get off the website

        • .

        • -1

          yeah i'm laughing too!
