Terms and Conditions:

The Refer a Friend offer will run from 08 November 2022 to 31 March 2023 and is available to all ubank customers. The Refer a Friend offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer (unless we determine otherwise).

“Friends” who were previously ubank customers and closed their accounts within the past 12 months are not eligible for this offer.

3 card purchases must be made and settled by the “friend” in their first 30 days as a ubank customer to be eligible for the bonus payment.

Only settled card purchases are eligible to meet the bonus criteria. This means we must wait until each card payment has been settled (no longer showing as “pending” in the friend’s transaction history) before the referrer or the friend become eligible for the bonus payment.

Eligible customers and “friends” will each receive a payment of $30 each into their Spend account within a few days of fulfilling the bonus criteria.

There are always a few people who will try to game the system, so here are some fair play conditions.

We retain the absolute right to refuse to pay or cancel a “refer a friend bonus” payment without notice to you. The reasons for us to refuse or cancel a payment may include, but are not limited to, if:

we believe that you or your friend’s access to the ubank app is or may be fraudulent
we believe that you or your friend have threatened the security of ubank
we believe that you or your friend have breached any of our General Terms
we believe that you or your friend are acting in bad faith
we have locked or closed you or your friend’s account
you or your friend’s account contains unpaid charges or is overdrawn
We also retain the absolute right to stop the offer at any time and to change the conditions or incentive of the offer.

Your ‘friend’ must open a ubank account using your code while the offer is running.

    Hmm, am I ineligible? I had a "86 400" account before it was uBank

    • I would have thought so - the T&C say that it's available to all uBank customers.

    Terms say "available to all ubank customers", which is false. It's only available to ubank customers using the newer (86400) platform. If you are still on the old platform, if you download the newer purple app, it won't let you login and will give you the error message that they're not ready for you yet and to use the old app.

      Why don't you update to the newest app version? I'd think bank apps you should update to get latest security

        I tried to log in to the new app, and it says “we’re not ready for you yet”. Bah.

        • They’re still two different systems for now.

          You might be able to sign up a new account with new ubank but I’m not quite sure.

            @me1stt: This is what I did. I was an old Ubank customer but needed to create a new account. You could only do this on the 'new' platform, so I ended up having my Ubank accounts split across 2 different apps. They informed me I would be migrated eventually, but couldn't commit to a time, so I just created some more accounts in the new platform and moved my funds across manually.

            Was a bit painful, but I did manage to get a referral benefit for creating the new accounts as compensation :)

              Nothing stopping you from creating a brand new account on the new platform.

              In fact when I spoke to ubank staff at PAX (they had a booth there), they encouraged me to do this to take advantage of the signup bonus. Supposedly my older platform account will be merged eventually, but I moved everything out of there into the new one anyway.

              • @rith: If they are completely separate platforms, does it mean you could earn the bonus interest on $250,000 in each platform?

                • @onceupon8: I suspect so - they had no visibility of who I was in the new systems.. if you call their phone number, it's completely different teams that handle each.

                  That said, I was given the impression that it was only a few months away from the merge, so might not be a long-lived benefit

    Can't locate any referral code in my app. I'm an "old" customer. uBank need to sort these IT integration issues quickly, it is pretty messy.

    • I am very happy it's taking time. I had both accounts for ages and just use the best features of both.

    • They've always been sloppy tech wise.

      I've been with them for 5+ years now and I've never heard of any other bank having as much downtime, weird app bugs / quirks and issues. I hate Ubank with all my heart but changing banks is a hassle and I never end up getting around to it.

      I'd be happy with the $30 but I couldn't refer a friend in good conscience.

  • So, there is no minimum spend? Also does it show some kind of confirmation that you signed up with a referral code, since i signed up pretty quickly and didn't see any referral confirmation.

    • When you originally enter the referral code, it says "checking code" or something like that and then "referral code successfully added" or something like that.

      But after you have left the sign up process, I don't think you can see any confirmation.

      Yes, I added the card to my apple pay and made the 3 purchases and received my referral reward before I even received the physical card

      Right at the end of the sign up process in the app, there should be a question along the lines of "Have a referral code?" If you press on it, you can then enter the referral code.

        So I have written them an email last night explaining I just opened a new account but haven't put the referral code in. Hoping they will apply the code to the account. haven't had a reply yet

          You should be fine. When I signed up I put in all details including TFN and my referral code. On the final step I got an error message. Staff told me to start over again but leave out the TFN and referral code. They told me I can add my TFN after sign up and then to contact them again after 30 days with my referral code and they would manually apply the bonus. Just make sure you have completed the 3 card transactions prior to the 30 days.

    • From the previous deal, it might take a few days from when the transactions are finalised. I got a referral credit today from someone that used my code a few days ago, so I'd expect that you should have it fairly soon.

            @asangam: It appeared automatically today. Didn’t have to call.

      If you call them they should be able to manually add the $30. If, for some reason they can't see the code was used from their end, you may need to provide it to them again but they are able to make a manual adjustment. On signup, I successfully added my code but in the final step received an error. Their staff told me to start signup process again but leave blank the non-essential parts. This meant not putting the referral the second attempt. Sign up was then successful but they said to contact them after 30 days and 3 settled transactions and they would add the bonus to my account.

      • How many lots of $20 have you received? It might just be from a referral that was made before it jumped up to $30.

        Someone else above mentioned that they had trouble signing up with the referral code and contacted them and they manually applied it later.

        • Nah, this particular one was referred a day before. App clearly shows 30 for the ref code as well. Called them up to rectify it, but they claimed it's $20 internally. Had to email them a screenshot -_-

            I got a $20 referral bonus a few days ago from when I signed up before the change to $30 and I can't see any details in the app about the referral code that was used for that referral. Other than the dollar amount, it appears exactly the same as a $30 referral bonus that I got for referring someone else.

            If you have your referral code shared on OzBargain, maybe someone else signed up with your code before the amount changed and you've only just got the amount for that now. It's unusual for the referral bonus to come through within a day, so you might find another $30 come through in a few days…

            I suppose if the person you referred only got $20, that would indicate a definite problem though.

      status.ubank.com.au still says that everything is operational, so the brown stuff has probably only just hit the rotary cooling device.

      • App is now working but the status page is reporting that it's down - they've either only just fixed things and haven't yet had a chance to update the status page, or they may be waiting to ensure that the problem is fully fixed before updating the status page.

      I don't believe that there's any specific minimum - in theory, you could do 3x 1c transactions, but they could perhaps say that you're acting in bad faith which is against the terms of the offer…
