$6 monthly fee. That's crazy. I don't understand why anyone would sign up for this outside the free $50.

Oh for sure, there's no reason to use it otherwise, even if the fee is able to be waived.

  • Friendly bank! I must remember the free money they gave me at some deal back.

10 years later I happen to stumble into Woolongong and they actually do exist.

Another economy student with a Phd invented a new mouse trap?

  • New users only?

  • Potentially, you could be up for the monthly fee, yet NOT get the $50 if IMB decide to reject based on age/student status - no mention of the "standard" account waiving the monthly fee even if balance reaches $2k.

  • My first ever bank account was IMB in 1978. They gave me $5 back then as a bonus for signing up. I wonder if that's worth the same as $50 now..

Waits for someone to google it and get back to him…

Just some info if anyone's interested, I called them up and inquired about the fee (was originally just going to close the account) and was told that if you fit into the age range, you're given a student status and exempt from the fee. Was told mine was active until March 2026, so plenty of time to get the promo and close your account.
