1% Cashback on Eligible Utilities Bill Payments + No Foreign Transaction Fees for All Orange Everyday Customers @ ING

190

Was doing some research on foreign exchange fees and looks like ING has joined the party to compete with ubank, Macquarie, Up Bank etc.

Maybe not a deal for some and a PSA, but maybe a deal for those who don't have an ING everyday account… no reason not to get one for the 1% cashback (seems restricted only for bill pay).

From 15/10/2025, all Orange Everyday customers will automatically get access to 1% cashback on eligible utility bills (T&Cs apply), $0 ING international transaction fees, and $0 ING international ATM withdrawal fees - all without needing to meet any monthly eligibility requirements. For domestic ATM withdrawals, there will continue to be no fees charged by ING, but third party operator fees will no longer be rebated.

Existing Orange Everyday benefits will continue to apply up until 14 October 2025 for customers that met the eligibility criteria in September 2025.

Cashback on eligible utility bills is capped at $100 per financial year, and is only applicable to payments made from an Orange Everyday account via BPAY, direct debit or PayTo. Payments made via a debit card linked to an Orange Everyday account are ineligible for cashback.

  • Are council rates eligible?

    • +1

      No.
Gas, elec, water is all that's covered.

  • +15

but third party operator fees will no longer be rebated.

So it's actually a reduction from their current offering

    • +4

ING has gone to the dogs! Glad I just switched to Macquarie as they cover atm operator fees.

I am currently getting 1% Cashback on Utilities, it is already there for long time.. you can see all eligibel providers from:

    • +3

But we dont need to do 5 transactions and $1000 deposit anymore 😀

      • Cool, thanks for letting us know.

Isn’t the 1% cashback on utilities an existing perk capped at $100 per year? Here is a list of utilities providers https://www.ing.com.au/everyday-banking/utility-bill-cashbac…

  • +4

Not really a deal as all they are doing is dropping domestic atm rebates.

  • +19

    To summarise …

    Hoops removed for Orange Everyday:
1% cashback on eligible utility bills
    $0 ING international transaction fees
$0 ING international ATM withdrawal fees

    Feature removal for Orange Everyday:
Domestic 3rd party ATM fees will no longer be rebated

Hoops still in place for Savings Maximiser

    • +2

If they announce that they're getting rid of the growth and 5x card transactions hoops for the Savings Maximiser, they will instantly get praise from me.

    • Do domestic third party ATMs refer to CommBank/Westpac/St George etc ATMs or those independent ATMs you find in servos? Or all of them?

      • +2

Any ATM in Australia not owned by ING

        • Does ING have any of their own?

      • +3

Independent, the ones owned by banks in aus usually don't have xtra fees. The ones like atmx are Independent

        • Exactly, those who gave warning before taking money like: there is $2 or $3 charges. Even with rebate, I don't use them, always go to Bank operated ATMs.

  • +4

This is good. Given NAB has put the international transaction fees on previously migrated Citi cards

    • That will stop in Nov. I just received email notification last week. No international fee is being removed.

  • +4

Urgh the ATM rebate was a large part of why I joined. At least they're keeping the no international transaction fee, I guess.

    • Use bank operated ATMs, that's free always.

      • Except that there are less and less bank ATMs. All the ones near my place got removed and there are only atmx with $3 fee left now.

That's so generous of ING. 1% is nothing. if you prefer, use hsbc card for everything with 2% off on amount less than $100

    • I thought the ING 2% does not work for online payments.

    • How you can you get 2% off from HSBC on utilities payment s?

      • +1

Split the bill into sub $100 denominaitons at the post office and tap for all payments - lol

        • I think the terms prohibit splitting transactions like this

        • Do you travel by push bike to the post office?

          • +1

@Sidor: Only when i feel like walking 200m to the post office is too much

    • The 1% sounds like nothing but consider the alternatives.

Say you're using a Macquarie savings account at 4.25% ANNUAL interest. On a $150 monthly electricity bill, that $150 would earn you 53c over a month before tax if it was kept in the savings account that whole month (which it won't be). It'll save you a little bit more if left in an offset account.

That same $150 used to pay the monthly electricity bill will get a $1.50 rebate.

For me, I normally pay ~$100/mth for electricity. Over a year, that's $12 there. For water rates, about $300-350/qtr now so at least $12 there too. It's not megabucks but does net more than leaving the money used for bills in a HISA or offset account.

The real question would be… is it worth the trouble of managing another bucket of money?

    • hsbc card

      Debit or credit?
      Any monthly or annual fees?

  • If third party operator fees will no longer be rebated - does that mean only bank atms are free now?

    • Yes

    ING's heyday is over.

It will never get all those customers back that left ING due to its many hoops.

Here lie ING's customers, strangled by the hoops.

    • +2

There's a part of me that's hoping that this is the first step that ING are making towards making their product desirable again and that the rebated ATM withdrawals is just a cost cutting measure required to maintain the high interest rates, and that hopefully they will follow with another media release saying the SM won't have hoops either (or just a deposit requirement… coz we all hate the 5x transactions as it makes automating the hoops annoying, and we all left ubank due to the growth requirement).

But realistically, I know ING's PR spin doctors got rid of hoops on the OE as a means to justify dropping ATM rebates, but they know people will still jump through hoops for the SM bonus interest rate. For some silly reason, there is an ideology at ING that more hoops means a better product for them to peddle.

      • I do 5 x 1c PayPal card payments to my other PayPal account each month rather that store transactions.

Not happy about ATM decision as I generally only withdraw cash at a club, pub, etc. Still, SM interest rate is VG.

        • I had heard about that trick. I suppose I should set up another paypal account. That would be much easier and save me having to put ING's card in my wallet at all (now that there's no reason for it to stay permanently in my wallet).

I'm not happy about the ATM decision either.

The only reason I had considered replacing my Macquarie debit card with ING's was that I am at a point where I feel comfortable with only 5 rebated ATM withdrawals per month and would benefit more from having a debit card that supports bank@post always on me (my other debit card is HSBC's everyday global which dropped bank@post a while back). Ironically, my debit card only came yesterday… followed by their announcement.

          • @Mugsy: You can pay a family member and they can give you 60c for Xmas lol

            • @chrisharry53: Well, Dad does need a new savings account (following ubank's addition of a growth requirement) and VISA debit card with no international transaction fees. ING could be it… though, I'd need to operating his accounts (including a Paypal account) as he'd have no idea what to do. I really don't want to be jumping his hoops and doing the monthly flip flop for him.

              • @Mugsy: At one stage my wife and I plus son had 5 savings accounts requiring 5 transactions each. When I read the PayPal trick on here ages ago I jumped right on.

                • @chrisharry53: Not sure if my memory is correct but I thought I read it in the forum somewhere that they will ban your account if caught doing this.

                  • @runamuck: I have been doing it for ages now but would stop if that was the case.

Removing the third party ATM operator fees rebate is a big blow given it's so hard to find a real bank ATM nowadays. Are there any similar rebate offers from any other banks? Think it's time for me to jump ship, ING annoucements are like death by a million cuts.

    • Macquarie Bank from what I can gather. ME Bank too, for now at least.

      • AMP's VISA debit card also rebates ATM operator fees.

It doesn't waive international transaction fees though but it supports eftpos and bank@post if that's more important.

      • For ME Bank, which account/card does rebate the ATM fees?

For their Everyday Account not rebate is mentioned:

Some ATM operators may charge a fee for transactions using your Visa Debit card to access your account.
