Don't know if it has been bad luck but we've had an awful time with these. So many of them leak. Haven't been able to keep them in anything. Even leak when we keep them in battery cases between uses. Seem ok before you "break the seal". After that, good luck…

Maybe they have improved since we got them, but we are reluctant to use our current ones and also reluctant to buy more. Generally use rechargeables these days anyway.

    • nope, it happened to me too! I'd definitely stay away from them….

    • Yep they're probably the only real battery that I've had leak. Even the cheapo no names don't leak.

    • Same here had leaky duracell. Thought just my bad luck…

    • Same here, had to throw out three Apple keyboard's as the batteries (Duracell) all leaked and were impossible to remove.
      Never again!

60 is too much for a family, one pack is good.

Well, I just paid $10 for 30 Energizer Max, I guess that makes it alright for me then.

  • my Schlage smart lock only takes this battery (coppertop), no luck with many others including Duracell ultra.

  • Got this 100 pack from last Amazon deal.
Might worth waiting for it again?
I know Duracell is much better but for kids toys etc, this Amazon one good enough….

    Eneloops

There are several problems with rechargeable batteries like Eneloops. Firstly, the voltage is too low. Secondly, Eneloops are much worse for the environment than single-use alkaline batteries (despite the marketing hype you may have fallen for). Eneloops contain nickel, which is an environmental disaster. If one considers the full life-cycle, alkaline batteries are by far the most responsible choice

Recycle both types at your local supermarket

        • I don’t think much — if any — recycling takes place in this country. It gets shipped overseas, and is probably destined for landfill

  • Duraleak. No thanks.

  • Warren Buffett owns Duracell so if the leaks are becoming an issue, the manufacturing formula might have been recently changed as a cost cutting excercise

Duraleaks might be a rehash of the leaking capacitors plague

    • as a cost cutting excercise

Duraleaks might be a rehash of the leaking capacitors plague

The capacitor plague wasn't due to cost cutting. One capacitor manufacturer lured an employee away from a competitor company, and got the employee to bring the competitor's trade-secret electrolyte formula with them. Problem was that the competitor company suspected this was likely to happen, and had already secretly swapped their printed-out formula with one that they knew wasn't reliable. The employee took a copy of the unreliable formula to their new company, creating the capacitor plague, and crippled the company that stole the formula.

I can't point to any official sources for this list of events, but it was available on the internet (with a bit of digging) at the time of the capacitor plague.
