Lark Christmas Cask Release III Single Malt Whisky 500 ml
price is $199.99, no wonder OP has missed out on the price

Lark are mostly great. But still, $200 for a seasonal release…

Edit: the description suggests this is supposed to taste like fruit mince pies? Bleh!

  • was geoff bainbridge still honking on the glass barbie when he priced this item?

Was very lucky to try various lark whiskies at a recent expo. What a rip off. Most whiskies are just 3-6 months in the barrel and still they are selling for the price of 18yo single malts. Even the bottle is smaller. Only 500 ml.

      What a lark!

    • I tried them at whisky freedom and they were easily best of show. Not sure about your 3-6 month claims but have my doubts.. Where's your proof?

The chinotto is rank. Everything else was great. Got to try the para ii as well.

Australian whiskys must be 2 years in the barrel. They could have had some further maturation in a secondary barrel (which is likely what you're referring to).

I agree re: Lark though. Overpriced and overhyped and the 500ml thing just screams wank to me.

Gotta keep the shareholders happy my friend

    • Maturations in Australia, and Tasmania in particular, are able to be shorter than "classic" long-aged Scotch whiskies for a couple of reasons: smaller barrels are often used here, which means a higher ratio of barrel surface to liquid, and larger swings in temperature which ages the whisky faster. The numerous awards that Tas whiskies have won over the years shows that this isn't a bad thing, just different. But if you are an age snob, you might sneer over a Tas drop that is "only" 5 or 7yo compared to a 12 or 15yo Scotch, but functionally they might be equivalent.

But, I do agree, Lark is overpriced. And I was never a huge fan of it, compared to other Tas whiskies. Now every man and his dog has set up a distillery down there, it's impossible to stay on top of all the different expressions.

  • What percentage is this?

  • Is this distilled locally or is it more like: https://www.thedailybeast.com/your-craft-whiskey-is-probably…

    • If Tassie is 'local' to you.

      https://larkdistillery.com/pages/about

      • Well, if they make it it’s locally as it not bottling in here a product made in the USA.

Local, however, they have been on an acquisition spree in Tassie (eg: Nant) so its a little hard to tell the source. I recently did the whiskey tour down in Hobart (can't recommend highly enough for the $299 outlay).

I thought https://hobartwhisky.com.au/collections/all/products/tasmani… was far better and tasted more like christmas than the Lark equivalent although only 35% compared to the 45% of this.

Had a great chat to the owner of Hobart whisky at the recent Whisky Abbey weekend event in Melbourne … Definitely prefer his whiskies over Lark

Lark these days is overpriced rubbish. Best to avoid.

  • Corowa Whiskey made here in NSW. Give it a try guys, truly wonderful.
