    • why?

I’m on my third Delonghi, and it’s starting to die.

Impress the button, I might get coffee, I might get nothing. (Except water discharge into the tray, and inert coffee ejected).

Im looking for good deals to jump ship to Breville now.

      • 3 in how long? just curious.

        • +1

Like 8 years, to be fair, our duty cycle is pretty high. My current one I got in October 2019, and in that time, we have put about 20,000 shots through it.

The first sign of a problem was that when we’d descale it, right at the last part, it would trip the house’s RCD. So we started descaling every two weeks, but couldn’t clear the error.

I’m guessing there is a fixable internal leak somewhere. But they seem to fail like clockwork around that 2-3 year mark for us.

Everyone I know with their brevelle say they’ve had it for 6+ years and buy for an upgrade rather than it breaking.

          • @kev88au: that's not good. 2.6 yrs a unit. i'd expect them to last 4+ yrs depends on how much you use them of course.

          • @kev88au: What
            20k shots in. 3 year s? That’s like 20 shots a day

            • @diazepam: 4 coffee drinkers in the house. Each have two to three cups a day with two to three shots on each. Plus visitors.

Edit: just checked the counter. It’s 18,630 since October 2019. So I overshot a little bit in my previous post.

              • @kev88au: Close enough. Wasn't that much of an exaggeration at all

              • @kev88au: What machine?

Sounds like the vapouriser (booster element for milk frothing). You get small holes, then they clog with calcium…then you descale and the hole opens up. Steam condenses and drips and makes a contact with an Earth point. Bam..house trips.

20k shots isnt that much to be honest. A portafilter scrub, lube and sort the vapouriser..good to go. You can cut the corroded part out, but it will be thin, so id suggest replacing.

FWIW, if your machine is an auto, the Breville makes a much nicer coffee as you can control the even spread of the coffee shot and the tamp.

      • Meanwhile, my BES870 which I gave to a friend after owning it for five years is still going strong. Maybe 6 or 7 years old now. Wouldn't get used 30 times a day like yours though.

    • delonghi machines stink like ass and are crap, make shit coffee and are overpriced.

Haven't seen this price for several years!

Walked into TGG last week and was quoted $550 for the auto tamping version.

You will need to try yourself. I didn't buy it as I decided to try Delonghi for my next machine (had the barista express), but I was looking at auto tamping models

    • The impress? damn, $550 is good. I was happy with getting 20% off during frenzy (express and impress werent included) down to approx $660….. how you finding the delonghi? nice to have the dual heater….

      • +1

Haven’t bought anything yet. Waiting for a great deal. I got the express for $399 factory outlet at start of covid. Dual boiler and full size basket is what I’m after next hey.

    really bargain deal!!
Have my bes870 4 years now! almost using twice a day, still works perfect!!

    • How did we get to a point where 4 years is good? 4 years is basically brand new. 10 years would be normal I would have thought. My $7 kmart kettle from 1999 is still mint. 2 cups of tea per day + various pre heating jobs for cooking.

  • wow i’ve had mine for 3.5 years and this seems great

  • Got the Braista Pro the other day on TGG deal it is pretty amazing if this is similar then it would be a recommend for me at this price

  • Great price

  • Bought it from ebay (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733034) then refunded because it's cheaper at Bing Lee (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733789). I don't want to do this again…

  • Any offers for BES980BKS?

Very good price. Good Machine. Hanging off on saying very good Machine because it blew the showerhead seal and has become unusually loud on startup. Only 6 months old. Used twice a day. Need to drop it off to be checked. Just haven't had time.

Would recommend it at the price. It's pretty darn low.

  • +1

Can someone send me a referral code for sign up Zip? Thanks

    • Same please!

    • Someone send me one too please!

  • +2

Any deals on the impress version??

    • I managed to get 20% off applied during frenzy sale, even though not included by TGG. Brought down to about $660. But see above says they offered $550… !!! sheeesh

Can only advise against these machine, it will fail sooner or later (overpressure valve) , two friends had it recently and it failed within the first 12- 18 month.

    • Clean..clean..and more clean.

The problem is people only descale. Descale does nothing for oily bean residue. You need a detergent based coffee cleaner twice as frequent as you descale.

Scrub the portafilter, and use the detergent cleaner underneath where the water comes out (toothbrush). Then there wont be any pressure build up.

      • +1

Mate I get your point, but it's just not it. Across multiple machines and I had 3 if them it's the same issue, that's just what's happens
If people still want to buy it I can only advise to buy the extended warranty to eventually just trade it back in

  • anyone tried paying gift card in full and can use the promo code? thx

  • how does it compare to Bambino milk frothing?
