40% off sounds a lot better than $10 of all orders of exactly $25.

:EDIT: That was worded badly. But yeah, the max discount is $10.

  • +5

Maximum 100 discounted transactions per customer.

Basically 2 orders per day till 30 December.

  • +17

So with discount it’s essentially the same price as if you go and pick it up yourself

    • Dreaming, it's still much more on Door Dash. Jacked up 30%, 10% service fee, plus delivery fee.

Maybe if you have Dash Pass and spend exactly $25, then it might be the same

      • +6

Lol!. No dashpass here. My pickup was $15.90, if I did it without Doordash its $25.90. Jacks a figment of your imagination. Just like your $35 kebab comments!

        • +2

Jacks a figment of your imagination.

Jacks well and truly alive for most restaurants. Some places (Coles and Reject Shop here) don't jack, but most do. Just go to their app (Maccas, for example) and you can see the price jacking.

The cheesecake shop here sells a cake for $40 in-store, $60 delivery, and no free delivery even if you have dashpass.

          • -4

@photonbuddy: You’re using 2 (good examples) and saying “most”. Dumb people can order maccas or cheesecake shop at a jacked price if they want! Maccas or Hungry Jacks aren’t dumb across any of the delivery platforms, actually really smart.

  • -2

Prices are costlier in Doordash compared to Menulog, each item is atleast $2 more.

    • Food will also probably take twice as long to arrive compared to menulog (if it arrives at all).

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Menulog the next to go after Deliveroo.

    • +1

Prices are costlier in Doordash compared to Menulog, each item is atleast $2 more.

Not sure where you are, but I don't see that here. When a restaurant is on multiple platforms, the prices are the same.

      • -1

I am in Bendigo, Vic. I see prices for even national chains like McDonald's, hungry jacks, subway are more costly in dordash compared to Menulog

        • +1

          I am in Bendigo, Vic.

Not the case here in Newcastle, NSW. Not sure why that would be.

        • +2

we gotta go to bendigo, morty!

  • +2

Probably scared they’re the next deliveroo

    • +4

US based companies seem to have never ending cash to burn. I don't expect these guys to disappear anytime soon.

  • On this side of the ring we have Doordash…. lets food d̶e̶l̶i̶v̶e̶r̶y̶ fight…!

  • Just scheduled all my work lunches for next week while this is still active. Cheers OP!

    • now pray they don't shut down

  • Thanks OP! Worked for me! Free delivery too. Item costs $26 at shop, paid just over $20 delivered :)

  • Cheaper for me to get something delivered than pick it up myself with the code.

  • +1

If you have DashPass are service fees reduced, or same?

    • Half price.

      • Did they change this? Dashpass used to give 2% service fees instead of 10%, then it seemed every order was 10% regardless of Dashpass or not. If service fees are only 5% that makes it more tempting.

        • Yeh 10% even with dashpass now

        • Did they change this?

Not sure if it was a coincidence, but when I changed from monthly to annual, I noticed the increased service fee.

They also don't limit it to $4 like Menulog does.

          • @photonbuddy: Menulog makes it minimum $2 (vs $1) + delivery fees on Menulog are more if you spend less.

I was on monthly Dashpass but cancelled my subscription when the service fee decrease went away. That was probably 9 months ago now so not a recent change for me anyway.

            • @pennypincher98:

Menulog makes it minimum $2 (vs $1) + delivery fees on Menulog are more if you spend less.

True … but I can say I've NEVER spent less than $20 for an order. The reduced delivery doesn't make sense either. It should cost the same to deliver an order regardless of it's value.

I was on monthly Dashpass but cancelled my subscription when the service fee decrease went away.

If they were the only ones doing service fees, I would have cancelled as well. We order FAR too much, though. Average 3 to 4 orders a week, so Dashpass is a no brainer for us.

              • @photonbuddy: Wow yeah you're the complete opposite kind of consumer to me haha. I often order $15-$20 and rarely much above $30, even for Coles.

Dashpass is still worth it even at one order a week, but I find now I'm just ordering less, picking up myself/cooking more.

For anyone that hasn’t heard of it, I am a HUGE fan of EatClub.

I’m not sure about store availability and service locations, etc. (I’m in Sydney).

My local wood-fired pizza store has 20% off through EatClub, and the prices are not jacked up.

Ordering two pizzas through EatClub is $16 cheaper than DoorDash, and that’s WITH this $10 discount applied.

So normally $26 more expensive (WTF). Yes, pick-up only, but a $26 difference is just insane.

Over 6 months, I’ve always seen my pizza place at 20% off so I just see it as regular pricing.

Please, give EatClub a go! Not perfect, but you could find some good offers.

    • store availability and service locations, etc.

Signed up coz I read ppl were using it for Subway 40%, couldn't see any in my radar. :(
And the other closest restos are like 1-2 suburbs over.
      YMMV

    • Yes, pick-up only

I don't get why people use these services for pick-up, especially if there is price jacking going on.

If this EatClub is pick-up only, they may not need to jack, and charge the restaurant a much lower fee.

      • The purpose of EC was to fill restaurant's table during quiet times- from memory they started out offering good discounts for dine in during quiet hours, then added takeaway options.

EC is my favourite app too but limited choices out in the burbs, followed by Liven.

  • Thanks OP. Wow this code goes all the way till 30th Dec. Hope DD don’t realize it too soon.

  • -1

Jacked up prices make this a fizzer for crust pizza delivery. works well for my local fish and chips though.

    • hows crust pizza compared to pizza hut/domino'?

      • For me, Crust has always been surprisingly disappointing because their ingredients look better quality than dominos etc but the taste doesn't live up to the promise. I think its primarily the sauce but maybe also the cheese, its just not very tasty but on the bright side the base and toppings are definitely better than the cardboard crap you get from Domino's and Pizza Hut, I just don't think the overall taste is better.

So if I'm looking for a cheap meal I buy Domino's. If I'm looking for a good pizza I wouldn't choose any of Crust, Domino's or Pizza Hut.

      • -2

        from best to worst:
        1. Dominos
        2. Crust
        3. Pizza hut

      • Much better than Domino's but much more expensive.

The pesto chicken club is amazing most of the time. Occasionally average depending on the proportions but a lot more consistent than Domino's and better quality ingredients.

I find Domino's great maybe 25% of the time , the other 75% has barely anything on it and/or wrong proportions.

    Doordash = next deliveroo? :(

  • +1

I just cleared all my Doordash credit tonight, not risking Deliveroo 2.0

  • I got an alright deal it seems like. For some reason Zambrero is charging $0 delivery for the 7 minute or so drive between the store and my suburb. I've gotten their 'big burrito' for $14 delivered when it's normally $16.90 in store. I still feel like a bit of a chump paying that much for mostly rice, tomato, lettuce and sauce but still.

    • Their sauces are pretty tasty though! My local zambrero puts a good amount of meat + cheese on as well. Very little rice.

  • What's the go with new/multiple accounts? I signed up with my normal phone number & email, tried to use a new user coupon that appeared on my app last week but it got removed during checkout. I'm guessing my card or paypal has been previously used under another account (could have added it to my partners account years back) ?

    • Contact support and ask there

      • Contacted support, they mentioned something along the lines of if they suspect the name/email/phone/payment method/address has been used before it's not considered a new account. I've never ordered doordash to this address, I have an apartment so maybe someone else has used my address and just met them outside.

I've never used different mobile number to take advantage of new user discounts either. My actual number was verified to this account when I downloaded the app a couple months back. No orders in my order history, no doordash emails in any of my email accounts. Only thing I can think of was maybe my payment method or address was flagged as being a dupe.

Anyway, too much hassle ended up deleting my account

        • Have you ever had doordash app on your phone before? It might also use your device ID to detect if it is really a new account.

          • @CodeXD: Possibly had downloaded/deleted it in the past but I don’t recall ever ordering or signing into an account other than the one I was trying to use - none of my emails have any signup confirmations or any email from DoorDash so I assumed it’s my first time using it.

They were vague with their reply would have been nice to know what info they have of mine to think I’m not a new user. I’ve probably made an order before I’ve completely forgotten about but I would have thought I’d have an order history or an email from them

  • Can't find where to add the code to my account. Is it only at check out?

    • Add items to your cart then it's in the cart section

      • Damn, I was hoping i could save it to my account for a rainy day.

        • Maximum discount is $10. No minimum order value. Valid until 30/12/2022 or until maximum redemptions are met

          You might have some time

  • Worked for me, better get in a few pre orders before they fix it (if meant to be only for GYG). Thanks OP!

  • Ordered one oporto chicken, they gave me 2🤫

    • Same….IT error

  • +1

Forget about ending no 30/12/2022 - Surely this is more likely in the next day or so "Valid until 30/12/2022 or until maximum redemptions are met

  • I swear I used the coupon code but just looked at my paypal and I got charged full price…

    • Checked mine, all good

  • +7

Thanks, got a pizza for $13.66 pickup.

The person working there thought I worked for doordash and it was extremely awkward. She asked me twice if I had a bag, and I indicated I had a plastic bag. But now I realise she was wondering why I didn't have that insulated delivery bag hahaha.

  • Used tonight for 2 back to back orders from different places. Worked perfect.

    Thanks brandogs!

  • Maximum 100 discounted transactions per customer.

    Challenge accepted.

  • -2

I am all for a bargain, but like I said in the Shopback Doordash deal….

You wonder why food delivery servicer not working in Australia? Customer complains on mark ups and won't spend money unless the there is a discount/deal.

Food delivery services should read more OZB comments before they start up a servies. It will save them lots of money.

    • Yep, I won’t buy unless it’s over 50% off…..discounts plus gift card %’s on top.

    • +2

Ozbargain is just a subset of the Australian food delivery service market. There's plenty of people who don't mind ordering without a discount.

Of course everyone wants a discount, but there's enough happy to order without one. I'd hope that doesn't apply to anyone on Ozbargain.

    • +2

and won't spend money unless the there is a discount/deal.

Years ago (~20, before online ordering) I had a friend who worked in Dominos. I asked him what percentage of customers used vouchers. I, of course, never ordered unless I had some sort of voucher to bring the price down, but he said ~90% of orders are full priced orders.

      I was genuinely shocked.

I think people who frequent a place like OzB aren't the norm.

      • -1

        That is very good stats…..

Lets just take your word for it and apply to the delivery food services as a whole, then it must mean that they are not charging enough hence they ae still loosing money or even close up.

Talking to a friend yesterday and there was a very interesting take. High inflation mean the price on delivery services are even higher these days yet people are having less real pay. Food delivery really boomed during lockdown but now that gone for good, looks everything is against this industry…….just my two cent.

        • An interesting take on your inflation angle is that food delivery may have become more affordable in comparison to supermarket prices, dining out and traveling to store yourself.
Personally I find the delivery subscriptions much cheaper than my own fuel and vehicle cost would be.
The main challenge would be disposable income to spend on the convenience food itself I think, not so much the delivery service fees.
Everything people, animals, nature even machines will normally default to the easiest option in the short term.
The people I know who use food delivery daily (and twice daily) are often individuals ordering for themselves. (and often under the control of Fortnight or beer) who have fixed regular income and fixed outgoings.

          • @tonka: Remember there are many additional cost with food coming from delivery services. It is unlikely that it will ever close the gap. Restaurant price, admin cost, driver cost all goes up makes it more expensive all the time, but it is convenient when you can afford it or can't get to it (lock down).

One evidence of people tightening their belts is our Aldi getting busier and this was confirmed by the staff in store.

While I put out my theory of food delivery services here, I myself also can't justify using them unless there is some sort of deal/discount. This is compared to local food stores that I can get fresh takeaway lunch boxes for under $4.5 (3 for 13), or discounted sushi after 3pm for $8 a box.

    • +1

Lots of ppl order food via these delivery services by default.

  • +3

Lots of places delivering under $1 right now. I may as well use it. Definitely cheaper than going into the store to buy certain meals.

    • Yes, after discount and free delivery, just $12.x for pad thai. I don't think u can easily find the price cheaper than that

      • Haha!! Per my discussion above, thanks to all the full price paying customers subsidizing our OZB community YEAH!!👏👏

  • -7

What if Doordash are also about to go into administration and they're trying to raise as much cash as possible, knowing that they won't pay stores/drivers? Surely this discount isn't great for their profit margins…

    • What does the first line say? Rather than just being a fearmonger maybe you should learn to read.
Lucky for you I've used all my downvotes before this.

      • +1

        I used one for you

        • Thank you, it's gone off cool down now so I can use one too :)

  • thanks

  • +1

    Doordash everyday it is!

  • Is DoorDash not catching on this? I can literally get a large pizza meal for $10 less (domino's and pizza hut). No way they're going to keep this until end of December

    • Put that way, it sounds like someone is trying to kill off the Ozbargain community.

    • The code even works for MacDonalds!! Just tested $17.50 for two breakfast delivered 😲😲….

      Sure the is not sustainable……

  • +2

This is NOT a GYG specific special. When I login I see the banner:

Support restaurants with 40% off your order: DOORDASH40
    Australia, we’ve got you covered.

  • I understand putting a limit on maximum discounts but surely this sort of deal is bad for both reaturants and door dash by discouraging large orders.

Anything stopping people from doing two orders one immediately after the other from the same store to avoid the $10 Max discount?

It seems the only way to make it worthwhile for feeding more than two people.

I'm thinking buy a $50 gift card with 15% cashback from this deal
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737824

And doing two orders of slightly more than $25 each.

Possibly do the first order with after pay to get dashpass for free first depending on the delivery costs of the particular shop.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/687145

Even still, it's a lot of farting around to get the price lower than ordering thru uber with a 15% cash back gift card and lower prices to begin with.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/738219

    • Hmm…. I thought the afterpay deal was gone.

Anyone know if you had the offer before can get it a second time? I did it once and cancel after free period expired.

  • This is a pretty good deal, I have used it for the past 2 nights.

I opted in to the 30 day DoorDash trial so no Delivery fees on anything

    • There is a 10% service fee no matter what.

      • No service fee if you pick up

        • I'd rather pay the 10% for delivery and dashpass would be pointless for pickup

      • They upped it to 12% now.

  • +2

Getting error using code, "Unfortunately, this promotion is not currently available." What happened?

    • +2

I was in the process of placing my 9th order when I got the same thing 🤣

    • It's still being advertised to me in their app with a banner saying "until 31/12 or until supply lasts", but I'm getting the same error. Maybe supply didn't last?

Edit: Support confirmed that the maximum number of redemptions has been reached. It continues to be advertised to me on their desktop website with no "until supply lasts" qualification.
