  • Good one Bryanfish. Nice work.

  • how bad is the battery life? saw that comment under every watch 4 post.

    • mine reaches the end of the day with about 40% battery. I use the always on display, but I don't have all the health tracking stuff on.

      • thanks, so basiclly you have to take it off and charge it every night.

        • +1

Yes, but I find that easier to remember than 'take it off every other night' etc so it works for me

          • @Keplaffintech: i am a bit lazy, my first smart watch was huawei w1 many years ago. sometimes i forgot to charge it, sometimes i forgot to put it on the next day. maybe a band is better for me. LOL

          • @Keplaffintech: guess no point in it being used for sleep tracking.

        • +2

I charge it before my shower every night, watch TV or whatever, then put it back on right before I go to bed. I go to bed with 100% every night, and lasts till my next recharge.

          • @BadGiraffe: so what time do you shower?

and then it lasts till next day shower?
and how much battery remaining when you charge it.

this would be a good method for sleep tracking.

            • @pinkybrain: Yup. I shower at 8:00 or 9:00 at night, put it on the charger, then put it back on at 11:00 or 12:00. By the next time I charger, I'm at about 30% to 40% depending on how many alerts I get a day. I charge to 100%, or at least till high 90%.

I previously had a Mi Band. That lasts for weeks. For this, I'm making a conscious effort to save the battery. My watch face has the least amount of colour. Mostly black.

I turn off raise to wake, turn off always on, etc.

And yes, I use it for sleep tracking and snoring recording.

It's bad. Had one. Sold it off due to poor battery life among other issues. If you're not using a Samsung phone, the watch will insist you install 3 additional apps on your phone and those apps suck my phone's battery as well.

      • how long does the watch last each day until recharge?

        • Heavily depends on you, but for me does not last until 10pm without any activity tracking and with always-on display off. Non-LTE version. If used for activity tracking like hiking, cycling, drains very fast.

I found all the 'smart' features to be limited and not very useful. If you just want notifications and alerts on your watch, a garmin does that too, with less fiddling, more reliability, and better battery life.

Copy paste my response from here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/724228#comment-12662715

I've had a Samsung Watch 4 and the terrible battery life drove me to sell it off after 3 months. Couldn't even go for a full day of hiking without dying by 3-4pm in the summer, forget sleep tracking. It's 'touch-screen' also meant alot of fiddling around and that it doesnt work with gloves rather than the primarily buttons-first approach with most of Garmin's watches.

I got a Garmin now and wished I'd just have gotten Garmin to start with - not only does it work remarkably well, it doesn't force you to use or find workarounds around proprietary features that only works if you have a Samsung phone and apps that plays better with integration. Samsung watches force you to install the app watch connect/manager app) a second app plugin, a third app Samsung Health, in my case at least, drained the living hell out of my phones battery too and each app asking for every single permission under the sun. I have also found Garmin so far to be more reliable when tracking activities whereas my experience with the samsung, more than several times, the activity tracking froze and crashed and lost all progress.

I tossed up between the venu 2 or the instinct 2 solar and went with the latter, primarily for the battery life but venu 2 has that amazing OLED screen which I'm still googly eyes over and still has 7+ days of real-world battery life.

I'd probably steer you to venu 2 plus currently $654(amazon.com.au) on regular price if you are not sure you want/need the Fenix series watches. maybe venu 2 non-plus if you see it for ~$400 again.

and maybe instinct 2 solar was ~$390 if you love the old school Casio G shock watches and want 20+ days battery (possibly unlimited with solar).

Everyone's needs are different, and I eventually realised I wanted a sports tracker with a touch of smartwatch capabilities (e.g. vibrate to notify me when selected apps sent notification e.g. phone, calendar, doorbell). I found fiddling with my tiny screen on my wrist awkward to use as a smartwatch. Garmin now fits that need for me perfectly.

    • Pretty bad, lasts me around 36 hours and I have the larger battery (AOD off, LTE off, Wifi off and minimal watch use).

Personally, I'm waiting for the Ticwatch 4 or the Oppo 3 Pro.

wow, u guys don't take the watch off when put it in the charger every night? I thought that's how you meant to use it.

        • +1

          Sleep tracking

          • +1

@WowBargain: why not charge it at like 7 or 8pm etc while showering
then you can use it for sleep tracking..

        • One of the reasons I wanted one originally was a silent alarm that wouldn't wake my partner but would wake me. Obvioulsy with this sort of battery life, it makes it a bit difficult.

wow, very tempted now. The last watch I bought which I wear currently is the Samsung Gear s3 and that cost me $299 3yrs ago

    Is this worth the upgrade??

    • Apparently there's a firmware issue that totally bricks the watch if you turn it off (ie it doesn't turn back on)

    • I owned the Gear S2 and recently upgraded to Watch4 (bought from AmazonUK for $201)

The best upgrade for me: the Google assistant as well as the ability to use Google Wallet

The Gear S2's S-voice feature was killed off so you can't talk to the watch, so if S-voice was something you used then this a worthwhile upgrade.

The GPS tracking and fitness stuff is mostly the same — there's an ECG and blood pressure monitor but to me it's kind of a gimmicky feature.

      • Note that the ECG stuff only works with Samsung phones.

      • isn't samsung assistant bixbi the only option?

there's no way to change the bixbi button on their phone.

        • You need to install or update Assistant on the watch from the Google Play store, then once you've done that you can rebind the button gesture to use Assistant instead of Bixbi.

Unfortunately, the bottom button (long press) action is always Samsung Pay and you cannot change it to Google Wallet. That's my other gripe with this watch.

          • @scrimshaw: yeah that is the crap thing about samsung..

they keep trying copy Apple and force people to use bixbi or samsung pay etc..
on the Android ecosystem (which is about freedom of choice)..

Would be good to give people choice if they want to use it or not rather than forcing it onto them

  • oh what, black sold out quick smart :(

  • Bought mine for $300 or so in June. Gutted.

  • gahhh just bought one from amazon this morning

Bugger - item doesn't post to me. I live in QLD not Siberia. I bought a PC from Bing Lee a few years ago via delivery with no probs - still live at same address. Oh well I'm sure I researched this phone a while back and NFC (on it) doesn't work with ING?? FML SMH SUX2BME

    Thanks for posting anyway OP.

  • Ordered one. Cheers OP

  • Bought 1 black 1 gold. Thanks OP.

If anyone has issue with adding item to cart, just click on Buy It Now.

  • Pretty bad battery life. Any wearable that gives less than 1 week of battery life should be deemed illegal.

    • this is smart watch

don't think there is too many that lasts that long.

most others are not true smart watch e.g. amazefit etc.

  • Back in stock

  • No stocks in vic :(

  • Anyone knows whether Watch5's strap can fit Watch4? (40mm). I like Watch5 strap options more, especially Two-Tone Sport Band and they're currently 50% off. I read somewhere that as long as it's not metal/steel, any 20mm rubber & silicone strap can fit both watches. Anyone can confirm this?

    • just wait for watch 5 to go on sale.

  • Good price op.
I didn't buy, but have my up vote to take you to 100!

  • 25% cashback at Rebel Sport via Shopback between 3-9pm should bring down to just under $154 I believe.

  • Anyone got theirs from ebay store shipped yet? Still have not received mine.
