Same price as some other retailers (e.g. Rebel Sport, Myer), if you prefer shopping at those

How does this compare to the incoming fitbit sense 2? In terms of overall health and fitness tracking

Here's a comprehensive review of the Fenix 6:

Depending on your activities, up to you whether it fits your use case and is worth the extra $

        Thanks mate

        • +2

my personal take on this stuff is that the Fenix 6 is a great device, but massive overkill for most people (@RRP) barometric altimeter? mapping?) and the fitbit is rather overpriced for what it seems to do. If you're simply after health and fitness tracking all you need is a basic watch that ideally tracks you via GPS and does heart rate (i.e. one of the base level garmins). So much of the functionality of these watches are algorithmic projections based on those two data points. So if you just keep moving, and resting occasionally, you'll be good.

On the other hand, if the gamification of health and fitness motivates you to keep moving and increase health and fitness, perhaps it's a worthwhile investment.

I'd say the fitbit platform is probably more aligned with maintain general health and fitness, whereas the garmin platform has the potential to assist with specific athletic training goals. Although it's been a while since I've had a fitbit device so perhaps my experience is out of date.

    • Not sure if just me, but I've always had a good experience with JBHiFi and any returns. Does anyone have a view how Ebay Plus return process compares? Does it depend on the store? Is it worth the $25 saving?

      • +3

On eBay it definitely depends on the seller, so always check the returns policy and the seller's feedback. I haven't done many returns, but in general it's been a good experience. Some eBay plus items also offer free returns. There was only one case where a shady seller would not do a full refund, and I got eBay to step in and they covered the difference.

      • +7

JB hifi have pretty ordinary returns in my experience. You go to the desk and get "shuffled aside" while they call someone from the floor who may be busy, you wait for them, get questioned etc. I've rarely been in and out of JB Hifi in under 60 minutes for a return which is pretty crummy.

      • I wouldn't worry too much about it, the chance of any DOA with modern electronics is absolutely tiny - there's almost no chance you'll need to return it.

Are there people who actually pay $1200+ for stuff like this?

    • +2

Yes, otherwise they wouldn't list it at that. The F6 is 3 years old today and still pretty popular.

    • +3

Yes, otherwise Apple wouldn't have released the Watch Ultra

    • people paying retail prices keep Australian economy running despite government efforts to screw it haha

    • -2

Plenty of people with a lot of money, and not a lot of sense out there.

  • This or the Apple Watch Ultra?

    • +4

double the price or half the price

    • +5

Depends if you’re after a fitness tracker or a smart watch.

    • +2

      $1299 or $624 ur choice

    • +7

Half the price for 14x the battery life?

Buy TCN gift cards from coles from Wednesday for a further 10% off.

  • Does JB hifii online still accept unlimited use of Gift Cards or has it been changed to a limit of 5 GC per transaction?

  • How do these stack up against the apple watch? Genuine question

    • +1

One is a smart watch and the other is a fitness watch, completely different purposes.

  • +7

after try8ing a few smart watches over the years, apple watch, samsung and Garmin I can say that the one killer feature Garmin has over eveyone else is battery life. I hate charging my watch daily. Garmins are once a week.

I take off and charge my Galaxy W4 every morning when I get up. by the time I'm done with coffee and shower it's got enough juice to last till next morning.

      problem solved

I take off and charge my Garmin every Wednesday evening when I get back from my run, and by the time I'm done with my coconut juice, it's got enough juice to last till next Wednesday. Problem solved.

        • when I had Garmin, no one ever asked me what my watch was, and where can they get one
when I switched go GW4 people often ask me what is this watch. including the colleague who has Garmin

it's cool, and I didn't want to switch to a watch that needs charging every other day, but here I am, it works great.

what I am saying is: there's no right or wrong. what works for you, works for you. it stops right there

            Cool story bro.

Anyone choosing a smart watch based on how many people they think will ask them about it, is doing life wrong ☹️

            • +1

@Nom: didn't choose it because of that, just observation afterwards.

      I second this.

I've had a Samsung Watch 4 and the terrible battery life drove me to sell it off after 3 months. Couldn't even go for a full day of hiking without dying by 3-4pm in the summer, forget sleep tracking. It's 'touch-screen' also meant alot of fiddling around and that it doesnt work with gloves rather than the primarily buttons-first approach with most of Garmin's watches.

I got a Garmin now and wished I'd just have gotten Garmin to start with - not only does it work remarkably well, it doesn't force you to use or find workarounds around proprietary features that only works if you have a Samsung phone and apps that plays better with integration. Samsung watches force you to install the app (watch connect/manager app), a second app (plugin), a third app (Samsung Health), in my case at least, drained the living hell out of my phones battery too and each app asking for every single permission under the sun. I have also found Garmin so far to be more reliable when tracking activities whereas my experience with the samsung, more than several times, the activity tracking froze and crashed and lost all progress.

I tossed up between the venu 2 or the instinct 2 solar and went with the latter, primarily for the battery life but venu 2 has that amazing OLED screen which I'm still googly eyes over and still has 7+ days of real-world battery life.

I'd probably steer you to venu 2 plus currently $654 on regular price if you are not sure you want/need the Fenix series watches. maybe venu 2 non-plus if you see it for ~$400 again.

and maybe instinct 2 solar was ~$390 if you love the old school Casio G shock watches and want 20+ days battery (possibly unlimited with solar).

Everyone's needs are different, and I eventually realised I wanted a sports tracker with a touch of smartwatch capabilities (e.g. vibrate to notify me when selected apps sent notification e.g. phone, calendar, doorbell). I found fiddling with my tiny screen on my wrist awkward to use as a smartwatch. Garmin now fits that need for me perfectly.

I have this watch and yes I paid $624 and not retail. I used to have a Fenix 3 before this and I have to say I love the watch. I would not compare this to a Apple Watch as they are two totally different devices and I would say the Apple Watch is a smart watch/fitness tracker and the Fenix an all out Fitness watch. I tested both for a few weeks wearing them both and the battery life of a Fenix for me is generally around two weeks if I use the features a lot while exercising and I can get 3 weeks if not. Apple Watch has to be charged every day, no sleep tracking due to this. I work in the fitness industry and almost none of us wear an Apple Watch, mostly Garmin Fenix 6/7 or G-shocks if they just want a rugged watch. I highly recommend the Garmin Fenix range.

  • Has anyone got an insights on when we can see some price drops /offers on Fenix 7 watches ? Thaksgiving / boxing day ? I currently using Fenix 5 (for last 3 years ) and a fenix watch with touch screen option would be ideal upgrade but the RRP is bit too pricey for me . I have tried both Samsung and Apple watches always going back to Fenix for its solid build as well as battery life.
