Budget-wise this seems like a great price, of course you can get better keyboards but those on a tight budget don't care about bigger and fancier options.

    Thanks for sharing Barney.

kmart one doesnt have arrow keys though… but it has RGB whereas this one only single colour…

That also has ISO layout (Europe & UK) as opposed to ANSI (US).

you can tell from the enter key.

That isn't the standard which Australia generally uses so this could cause some minor issues. Mostly personal preference though

      • It's not UK and I cannot see how it could be European as they will always have extra symbols depending on the country. The number 2 key is an @ key, where @ on UK is normally where the ; key is. It looks American with the enter button being ISO. You would know if it was UK as many buttons would be different (another example is the 4 buttons should be pound or Euro, but is $). I'm gathering they are just using an ISO shell, with the ANSI layout. I would never recommend a UK keyboard to anyone from Australia. Even when I am in the UK, I bring my own keyboard from Australia as the UK layout is a pain in the ass to learn

        • Regardless it's an unusual layout in Australia with | being in a different place to usual

          • @BarneyKB: Yup. A bit more reading and its somewhat popular with these mini-boards (Gaming) and comes from old IBM layouts. The term ANSISO came up a few times. They seem to be common in Japanese/US layouts. The shift key also isn't spilt (on the left), which is interesting. I guess for those that like smashing the enter key this might be okay for, but it is an odd-looking thing.

This layout weirdly has a cult following. It seems the main reason people buy them is because of the location of the |\ keys being more accessible and faster production. I agree with you for normal Aussie users stick with what we know.

          • @BarneyKB: Looks to be pretty similar to the Logitech Y-UY95 I am currently typing on (purchased in Australia eons ago), although obviously mine is a 100% layout: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/7d/ab/11/7dab11d2dbeada72f3f7…

I also came across this on Amazon. After reading most of the reviews, key things I learnt were the following. I reckon I'll buy.

    • excellent price to feature ratio
    • good entry point for sub-TKL size keyboard (as OP days, this is a 65% KB)
    • USB C which is a rare thing on cheap KB
    • switches are not hot-swappable
    • Jixian switches which apparently don't sound good but feel good to type on
    • many people said red is better than blue switch (even those who prefer brown tactile experience said the red linear was surprisingly good)
    • double shot key caps seem good quality
    • QC seems very hit and miss, some people have had dead keys, bits that snap off when removing key caps
    • stab stabilisers are used for the largest keys (space bar, caps, shift) which rattle a lot, may annoy some people
    • hollow sounding but that is modable by inserting foam etc.

I found the Hypo Tech YouTube channel helpful. Happy clacking and/or modding!

Thanks, I was looking for this info! Shame it's not hot swappable otherwise could've easily swapped with some Akko Crystal Blues.

  • Welp lightning deal has ended. This seems to be next best thing but it's 75% and has less reviews

Deal appears to be on again for select colours

In the end I went with the best reviewed 65% KB that I could find which was also hot swappable. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739802
