  • I presume this is not a dashcam with capacitor?

    • +1

      Yeah, 500mah battery

  • Cracking price

  • Is this good dashcam?

    • +1

I haven't use this model specifically but I've used different 70mai dashcams for a few years now. Whenever it's time to upgrade they're the first one I look for.
Their video quality is amazing, the HDR makes a massive difference and I've never had an issue with the batteries, not sure why everyone always asks for capacitors, must be something they read online.

I just got one of these to replace my front only dashcam. Will be nice to finally have a rear cam

I think its something to do with the Aussie summer heat and batteries being a risk of exploding as a result.

damn good price! great image, reliable and easy mount, much much better than others in $100 price range. Only thing I don't like is boot up time much longer than previous gen, not big deal but a bit annoying. For the battery concern, it usually last 1-2 years in Sydney street parking depend on usage, heat is not a problem because it can stand up to 70+ degree or something more I don't remember now. Pitty they don't use the much better battery from the same manufacture, which wistand higher tempreture and 5x more life cycle. If your battery is dead you can buy original one from Aliexpress, cost me $38 for 2 last time, super easy replace it.

If I don't need to turn it on when the car is off, I don't need to change the battery, right? It will still save recording without corrupting the file, right?

      • If you plug it in to Accessories only (cig lighter) the unit detects this and shuts down properly when the engine is turned off.

Should works with USB power, right?

My existing one I just use USB.

          • @superforever: Yea.. from memory the new units come with a 4m USB micro to USB -A for situations like yours.

And a usb-a cig lighter charger for anyone else with the ol ciggie plug.

      • In my previous model, the battery still can hold some minus even it is in bad shape, more than enough for the Cam to properly shutdown. But if the battery is totally dead then it has the possibility to corrut the last 5mins recording.

  • +1

Does anyone know if we have to get a professional to hook up this dash cam so it charges or do you have to take it off to charge?

    • Use cig lighter or pick up acc and battery power behind the dashboard.

    • +1

      You can:

      • Plug it into your cig lighter for recording only when driving
      • Get a 70mai hard wiring kit and plug into the fuse box for parking surveillance abilities.
      • Or pay someone to install it for you.

The built in battery is only for shutting down when power is cut if there's no constant available. It wouldn't record on battery only like a gopro

    • it comes with usb cable for you to charge it from any usb port like cig charger, just plug in you don't need to do anything else.

Is the rear camera easy to mount/wire? Does it come with all the fittings/wire?

Keen to get one but a bit concerning my DIY-ability……

    • Yes and Yes
The rear camera stick on a plastic film that stick on the rear windows

      • The rear camera stick on a plastic film that stick on the rear windows

        wire is the issue

        • I just wired via the edge of the door rubber and the ceiling cover

      • Then you pass the cable along the car, probably above the headlining, or could run down seats and under carpet.

      • Thanks. For the rear camera, do you still need to wire at least a power cable?

        • +2

No, the power is coming directly from the front dash camera, so there's 2 cables connected to the front dash cam
one for dash cam power, one connect to the rear cam

          • @littlesoldier:

No, the power is coming directly from the front dash camera

Good, so only need 1 cable.

          • @littlesoldier: Thanks mate. Are you able to separately power the rear cam by a separate power cable? I just realised there is a 12V port at the boot of my VF Commodore wagon.

            • @bfimmortal: no, I think it has to draw power and transfer data via the front dash cam

            • @bfimmortal: Why you want to separate it? You still need one to the front camera for recording.

              • @superforever: I wasn't sure how the rear communicates with the front, either wirelessly or through the cable. If wirelessly maybe I can avoid the physical wiring from the front of the vehicle (front cam) to the rear. As Littlesolder said the rear does need a cable though.

                • @bfimmortal:

As Littlesolder said the rear does need a cable though.

                  Yes , not wireless.

            • @bfimmortal: You would have to split it open to do this.
Best to use the existing cable.

            • @bfimmortal: You might be better off getting 2x normal dashcams. Like 2x 1S models or something

Is this different to the 70Mai 500 Pro Plus?

    • It looks like the same model

      • Yeah seems to be.
Bought it anyway since returns are no problem.

    • From one YouTube video this looks like the pro plus model only!
      https://youtu.be/I0na18nFSPs

      • Check video at 3.49. It has both model codes on the back.

  • Is this in usb-c or would I have to rewire through my car for micro-usb?

    • +1

no it's micro usb, just use adapter convert it will do.

  • Out of stock :( Missed out, was in a Meeting.

  • I am new to dashcam. How is this compared to Viofo?

    • +1

Much the same in terms of quality and features. 70mai tend to have better deals at times like this one.

  • sold out as I was checking out….

  • +2

Damn, was available when I saw it. Did 2 min of research to see if it was any good and then OOS when I went to buy it :(

    • +1

I've fallen for that trap before. Just buy then think.

    • +4

      Buy now, research later.

It was part of the ozbargain terms of membership.

    • me too! looks they only had 5-10 on offer :-(!

      • 350 sold. We were at the tail end when we saw it.

    • I asked a few questions here to try to help others, I already have a dashcam, don't really need to upgrade it.

Asking questions also to keep myself not to buy it XD

  • +1

Noooo wanted one for a fam member.

  • Thanks got one for a mate of mine whove been in multpiple car accident.

    • +6

Maybe driving lessons voucher would have been more appropriate! lol

    • Better to get more driving lessons?

    • Very true indeed. need more lessons

Damn it I was gonna get another one for me self but. list was ended/out of stock

      • another one for me self but. list was ended/out of stock

You will need another eBay Plus account to buy another one.

  • How’s this compared to viofo a129 duo?

  • +2

since this is sold out, anyone have a recommednation around the same price point?

looking to get my first dashcam

    • just wait a little theres gonna be more post coming soon im pretty sure haha

    • +2

For under $100 this is the first time I've seen a dual dashcam with GPS and parking surveillance come up.

Honestly I think it's still worth it at $160 considering how much it can save you if you were ever involved in an accident.

At minimum, look at a 70mai 1s for the front if you're on a budget.

  • This listing has ended.

  • Nooo….I was too slow Again!

  • This was good! And I missed it.

  • OMG luckily I bought first and depended on OzB for research.

  • Great cams by 70mai. I just installed the 4k 800s in my car with front and back camera with hardwire kit!

  • Don't worry about missing out - I see it's coming via Aramex. Fark.
Probably won't get it / three weeks to come / damaged / lost at depot then found magically when I start a claim

    • I got mine delivered this morning, sent with Aramex..

      • Good one. I'm waiting in Sydney metro…..

  • I have both the 500 and 800. The 4K cam runs quite warm and it survived one summer hopefully two more. The 500 is the right balance, it's only ever so slightly warm. The 800 however produce very impressive shots. I can drive by just looking at the screen.

I didn't hook it up directly to the battery I connected to a engine on 12V supply. There was one time the camera almost drained the battery. I use the optional 70mai 12v hardware car kit with the camera. For me the camera boots up faster than my engine warm up so it's okay if it loses power.

  • It's sad that you missed out on this great deal but don't put off buying a dashcam! It's worth every cent!

Words cannot express how good it felt to catch the driver who crashed into my parked car.

  • +1

Wow. Got it today through Aramax. Amazing

  • Mine never turned up…
